Along the way they come across one or two well known characters from legend, myth and fable, but they also meet creatures and monsters, of whom some are helpful to them but most of whom definitely are not. They must succeed in activating the talisman in order to return to their own world or perish in the attempt. Finally, they are faced with fighting a battle of almost epic proportions, but a battle such as they could never have imagined in their wildest dreams against a foe who is the stuff of nightmares.
