I just took a quick look at this chapter and I liked what I saw so far. I'll have to go home and read it more thoroughly for the plot because I skimmed through it while printing something, but you have a very descriptive way of writing and I can picture the scene quite clearly. There's a believeable friendship between Lucas and Alex, and the Hunter was a strange proposition. I liked them but obviously need to go into a bit more of this story to get a more solid opinion. 

I just spotted one glaring error; 'high' back' as opposed to 'his/her back' but I always have these in my first draft so it's nothing a simple edit can't fix. I'd love to follow this if you keep positng, though.

I like this! You write in a way that I can clearly see it in my head. I liked how Lucas and Alex are so close. So do Variants change just into animals or can they change into other things? You said that they all got wiped out after the war, but are there going to be many more?

There's so much to ask with only one chapter up! It looks good please continue writing it!

Varients are humans with special abilities so transforming into an animal, being able to control an element, super speed, etc. Things like that. Just a unviersal word for them, it all gets explained in more detail as the chapters go on. And the idea behind the war is the majority of people think they have all been wiped out but obviously we know otherwise as Alex and Hunter exists so could there be more out there?
