A Pure Ferret, dubbed 'Nettlewhite', is raised at Redwall by the peaceful abbeydwellers upon being taken in as a newborn. Though she acts as a vexatious and irksome creature that few wish to associate themselves with, Nettlewhite gets along well with her loving, adopted squirrel brother Mullen and mother Maven. But Redwall faces a dire threat looming a fairs way off over the horizon, lead by the Pure Ferret Prince Sagan the 'White Stag', and his monstrous army of Ratguard who have ulterior plans for the Abbey. Upon realizing who she is to this vile character from the north and his equally-contemptible royal family, Nettlewhite finds herself at odds with her already-bemusing identity. As he finds his only sister pulled away from him, the disheartened, but never downtrodden Mullen begins to experience dreams and witness signs that tell him he is destined to defend the Abbey, in spite of his gentle nature. When the flames of war begin to burn and fill the air with clouds of choking ash, the young squirrel may soon find out just what fate truly is in store for him.
