My first book on this site

Greetings, fellow writers and readers. It does not seem that these forums are active, but in case someone is looking, let me tell you about my story. I have been writing for a long time, mostly fantasy, but have never made a serious attempt at getting published. To be honest, lack of confidence and fear of rejection have played large role on that. Because I have written so much, but publish nothing, someone I care about has called my writing my 'posthumous work,' which I think is a little bit sad. Recently, I've gotten into a few writing classes, and my reviews, from peers and instructors have led me to believe that my writing is not as bad as I thought. Yet, it is also not as good as I'd like it to be, so, I've decided to give it a go and let people see it to see how they like it and how it can be improved. Most of my fantasy has been written in a world I originally designed a long time ago, so in a way, they are a series. I had to decide where to start. I have a completed first draft for a novel called Keeper's Apprentice, and a couple almost finished ones that happen before that one. I was not sure if I should start with a trilogy and then come up with a prequel, but the Star Wars prequels did not do it for me, so I decided to start way back in time, and this is what I'm posting here. Soul Sisters is a story or origins, a 'historical fantasy for another world' if there was such a thing, and many things that happen in later books have their roots on this period. It starts on the eve of Solisusque (the day when the two suns appear to be the same size and are the farthest from each other on the sky) when the barbarians known as the Belomari attacked Sacred Home, the center city of the Oni at the time leaving much killing on their wake. Main characters: Kamira - A Striker (military title) Asia - Daughter of House Lord (some call her a princess) Asia and Kamira are the soul sisters of the title. A soul sister is someone who is not related to you, but with whom you've entered into a covenant of sisterhood. Two girls become soul sisters by participating in a special binding ceremony at the Temple of Acunodes, the Goddess of Fate. Most Important supporting cast: Iddo: Young Acolyte at the Temple of Acunodes. Aran: Father of Asia, Lord of the House of Aran. Niva: Military Commander of the Oni Other important characters yet to appear Alric the Younger Daraven Farandel That's it for now. If you're reading it, don't be a stranger and say hello :-) and if you have suggestion for story or grammar, feel free to leave them in the chapters, so I can consider them when I do a revision pass. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • I was wondering if other writers on this site could answer a question for me.

At what stage on your writing do you post material here?

Basically, I'm looking at whether you are posting something here that is a first draft, a second draft, or something intended to be a final product. I have seen others updating and correcting their serials, so I was wondering how much of that is expected.

In my case, if I had to label my work, I'd call it version 1.5 or "First Draft Plus" meaning that it has some revision work done beyond the raw original writing, but it doesn't have major revisions or structural changes.

I expect that I will make revisions to this in the future, before any of this is ready for publication, so any feedback is appreciated.
