Dreamer Abused by Reality

O, Dreamer abused by Reality!

Your life is the prayer of a mad-woman,
dangling on the edge of her dreams...
dreams that flourish as gemstones of another word-world,
explorers in new Dimensions of Time and Space!

And yet, these same jewels are pelted against you
like hailstones raining down from Roughshod Reality,
running rampant as Phantom Fantasies
And Honey’d Hopes.

O, Hopes of Honey!
O, Dreams of the Universe!

How startling and intrusive the Outer World,
how unwelcome, how abusive
its storm of obligatory
musts, needs, and shoulds.

When will Dreamer escape
these mandatory mores of the night, morn, and noon?

“Soon!”

screams the Moon out of darkness
as Torrents of Terror shower righteous rocks
at a Writer determined to write,
at a Painter determined to paint,
or a Sculptor determined to birth a being into freedom
from a formless clump of clay.

Creativity born of Dreams
brings Reality’s reactivity into focus,
its razor-sharp talons ready to rip
through Life-Story’s illusions,
to arrive at the end of the path,
to the Lighted Truth of Day’s Love-Dreams.
