Broken once,
But never twice.
I suffered from the way
You smashed my heart.
I knew you were trouble
From the very start.
I loved you,
You used me.
Now I'm just broken
Smashed like a porcelain doll.
When you crushed me
You sent pieces flying,
Flying on the floor
Broken once,
But never twice.
You ripped me apart
Not even thinking
Of all the scars.
I sacrificed myself
By loving you.
In return
You murder me.
I'm your doll,
Your broken, cracked, smashed in doll.
Never once did you see
The pain and agony
Showing in my eyes.
Broken once,
But never twice,
You tore my heart
Straight from the seams.
So now I've locked me up
And thrown away the key.
Your torture is all I needed.
So sudden, so sudden
Was our love
But even sooner was the end.
You robbed me,
Stole that one thing.
My vital, beating organs
Will never mend.
So say goodbye
Because I'm broken once,
But never twice.

Although I am not a poetry fan, Alicia Rightmyer's collection of poems was a good read. Most of the poems are of a darker nature during the uncertainty of a relationship or one that's on the brink of falling apart, but she does a nice job of adding in contemporary aspects like technologies role in romance. It was that piece for me that made it a far more interesting read than just angst breakup poetry and moved this rating from a three star to a four.
