I will not call you great,
For great things tend to fall
I will not call you strong,
For strong things eventually weaken
I will not call you amazing,
For amazing things lose their wonder over time…

I will not call you my life
For my life has been so wrong
I will not call you my world
For my world is unsteady and weak
I wll not call you my heart
For hearts, they tend to break…

I will not call you the reason to exist
For existence becomes nothing and reason, a myth
I will not call you my breath
For eventually I will forget the ability to respire
I will not call you my shining light
For lights ultimately dim to black…

I will not call you the sun in my sky
For the sun will one day cease to shine
I will not call you the moon I see
For the moon is barren, cold, and bleak
I will not call you the stars I see at night
For their beauty is deceiving…

I will not call you the rainbow after the rain
For rainbows are just temporary
I will not call you the lightning I admire
For to venture close is to be risking danger
I will not call you a rose
For roses wither and shrivel away…

I will not call you any of these things
For… They do not properly describe you.
Instead, I will call you simply you,
For you is all you can be,
And that's all I'd ever want you to be.
