How can I make this more unique?

There is a story that has been running around in my head, but it doesn't feel... right yet. Like... not complete. Well, here goes: It's called "The Awakened". It's about boy (age yet undetermined) who lives a perfect life. Everyone does. Without having to take tests or do anything, each person's dreams all come true. Every adult with a family has already achieved that dream of becoming a rock star or writing a symphony. Every child gets good grades and praised by their parents. No bullying. No teenager has breakouts. Perfect. Everyone. Everything. No illnesses either. And no one feels bothered by things being so easy. But... every morning, our main character hears a noise. Like a bell. Just ringing. Each time he hears it, it occurs to him to find out what it is. He knows, somehow, it's calling out to him. But, besides the insistent bell each morning, there is nothing that would cause him to want to find anything more in life, so he ignores it for several days. Until one day, he realizes the noise is annoying him. So, he sets to find it. He goes to find out what the noise is and discovers a handful of people who ask him if he has noticed anything strange about their world. They seem to be quizzing him. Only the bell has been weird. And those people. Having found the source of this bell, he asks them not to play it anymore and goes about his life. But, the next day, he starts thinking. What could possibly be strange about his world? Everything was perfect for everyone. Nothing odd about that. Until he sees someone disappear into thin air. He looks around, but no one seems to notice. The more he pays attention, the more he sees people just disappear. Folks could even be talking to them and they disappear, and the people will just go about their business with smiles on their faces. He even once sees a person change into the appearance of some sort of monster for a second. That was just a hallucination... right? His days gets weirder the more he pays attention until he returns back to where he heard the bell before. He finds the people he previously spoke to and explains his predicament. They listen, then reveal humanity has been collected into farms. Every one of them is in a farm, and when they disappear, they are being eaten by the monsters he caught a glimpse of. The more he notices the changes, the clearer he will see their true situation. Or, he could choose to sink back with the others, forgetting what he's learned and become one of the masses. Of course, he chooses to face his situation. But, whether it will be about the path to him awakening while surviving or he will already be awakened and it will be about him actually being able to make a difference. (Or, whether he will be able to change anything at all) is also undecided. I thought about having the monsters have no thoughts of ill will towards the humans, but rather, they grant every one of the humans' dreams, thus properly trading human happiness for their own nourishment. Like, the delusions are from the beasts, an attempt to provide human contentment. Or, the humans could have simply gone mad, like mass hysteria from the constant stress after they were taken over. There could also be something toxic in the air, like, an adverse reaction to a changed environment. Perhaps they are on another planet instead, owned by the beasts. I'm aiming for a creepy, suspense, horror with plenty of scares. Any thoughts or suggestions?
