Varia: a world of monsters, magic and mayhem. Malevolent creatures known as Chaos Monsters roam the world, attacking and killing innocents, and the only people standing in their way are vigilantes known as Energists, using the powers of light to vanquish their enemies. Waldo Summerton, the 14-year old heir to the Summerton empire his father built, is the most powerful of these Energists...and the most arrogant. When he survives a near fatal accident while fighting a very powerful Chaos Monster, one that has held a human captive, it forces him to reevaluate his life, as well as start looking for clues about the strange behavior of this Monster. Not long after, Chaos Monster attacks start occurring more frequently in his hometown of Johannesburg, one even affecting someone very close to him. As he and two others investigate further in the case, the three learn that the situation with the Chaos Monsters is even worse than they could have imagined. Armed with this information, the three travel across the seven kingdoms of Varia to warn the people of the disaster that will fall upon the nation.
