Epistle

The rain forever lies

Above your head,

Oh dearest ghost,

And storms forever

Follow you whatever

Path you tread.

And those who love you

Flee, or else succumb

To winter; and the storms

Grow ever bleaker, and

Your anger ever deepens,

Ere you flee.

Your heart grows ever colder,

And your eyes grow ever

Blind, as those whose tears,

So sour, so multiply beneath

The shadow of the winter that

You bring, oh dearest ghost.

And the light that blazes

Out beyond your borders

Makes you seethe, and all

The pity of those you cursed

Causes still a freezing heart

To freeze still more within.

And still, oh dearest ghost,

Once the herald of my doom,

I wait beyond the borders of

The vanished things that once I

Gave you, only pity left, and hope

For brighter days to thaw your heart.

I wait in silence for those eyes,

Still blinded, soon to open.
