Hidden Away

My smile is fixed on my face,
My laughter is in place.
My emotions are hidden away,
And that's how they'll stay.

I'll just pretend I'm fine,
And let my fake smile shine.
Lock away my feelings and throw away the key,
That way nobody can know me so nobody can hurt me.

I'm just trying to save myself from the pain,
From words that whip me like a cane.
But I'm slowly dropping my façade,
Because I think you've finished your verbal air-raid.

The bullets you shoot are slowly running out,
Until there's nothing you can do but shout.
Now all that I hear is your pointless scream,
I'm forgetting the pain like a dream.

Because I am me and proud to be,
And now that your words don't sting you flee.
I am proud of myself and that's how I'll stay,
You'll never again make me hide away.
