If only I could stretch my wings and fly,
As I have often done in dreams I've dreamed,
I'd touch each corner of the winds and sky
To see if they are really as they'd seemed.

I'd dance across ten rivers, maybe more,
And cross a thousand oceans in a day,
To test the limits of my strength and soar
And fly until my troubles fall away.

Shall I attempt to gain my freedom, then?
No, no, in truth, my troubled heart was wrong.
I need not seek escape from the dear kin
Who make my home a place I can belong.

And so, dear Mother, when this home I flee,
I'll fly a while, but come back soon to thee.
