Fairy Tale Twists

So many stories have been fairy tale spin-offs. It's basically a built-in Prince and Princess! Now, we also know that there are many things that don't make sense in fairy tales--because they're not supposed to make sense--but what if we try to make them make sense? Hmm.. Let's see... Cinderella? So when the clock struck twelve, she was able to outrun the prince--in glass heels no less! She must be pretty athletic... Or Snow White! The dwarves CLEARLY told her not to open the door to strangers... but alas, she did. Maybe she's got some rebellious attitude-issue going on? Or does she suffer from short-term memory loss? And finally... Sleeping Beauty. Dude, how does the Prince feel kissing an a hundred year-old antique? And what is he doing kissing people in their sleep? Taking advantage of people I see... Someone call the cops; we have a prince on the loose harassing people in their sleep!

  • Oh, you lovely little thing, you! xD Are you trying to ruin my awesome Disney-memories?! Maybe a modern version would be more appropriate for a prince/princess story? And by that I mean a cheeky women's rights activist with a tomboyish hairstyle and baggy clothes (she's just THAT rebellious), and a sexist, sadistic prince (who just happens to be infatuated with the cheeky-tomboy-type) who wants to induce more than just 'pain' to the plucky heroine. DUN DUN DUN! Original line: "Hands. Off. Ass. Now."

  • Haha, that quote. I think it was in the movie The Proposal... Gotta' love Sandra Bullock. But yeah definitely, has a lot of promise. I wonder what would happen if we gave princesses distinct personalities. Cinderella--the jock, Snow White--the insane one, Sleeping Beauty--the couch potato, and Belle--the introverted bookworm. Haha... This sounds too comical. I think my ideas are running wild.

  • Interesting thing that. Reality punching Fairy Tales figuratively. May not be something that is a good idea/one you haven't thought of, but how about two princesses, good and bad, fighting for a prince. Works the other way around and the gender doesn't matter...did I do this right?

  • There isn't a "right" or "wrong" really... Things may stem from the same idea but go crazy and change completely. Nothing's ever wrong with switching gender; it makes things interesting! I like your idea, and think it's a refreshing change for two girls fighting over a boy opposed to two stereotypically-opposite males fighting over a girl. Definitely a nice bud of an idea. Could definitely grow a fantastic story out of that!

  • Honestly, I'm surprised no-one's brought up Rapunzel yet. She was locked in a bloody tower! That's a pretty extreme way of saying 'you're grounded', isn't it? And as for Snow White, I think she's allowed to be a little insane. Look at her stepmother, trying to kill people with apples! I mean, WHO DOES THAT? Don't even get me started on Jasmine. Her parents let her keep a tiger as a pet.

  • Hmm, very interesting points! Haha, all these things make me laugh. I bet my little five-year-old self would be staring at these truths incredulously. You could definitely create a story out of any of these. I'm suddenly feeling very sorry for all the princesses--except for Jasmine maybe. I'd take a tiger for a pet any day. ;)

  • True, very true. Tigers are awesome. But I'm going to broach the topic of Red Riding Hood. Eating a little girl in the woods wasn't good enough for mister wolf. No, he had to follow her to grandma's, eat grandma and then dress in grandma's gowns. Weird. And the three little pigs obviously did not think to consult an engineering manual of any sort. Except maybe the third pig. Now that I think about it, Three Little Pigs is kind of teaching natural selection...
