It was Saturday and eight year old Kailey was bored out of her mind, she didn't have any friends yet and there weren't any other kids who lived close to her. "Daddy, can I go outside and play?"
Go ahead but, don't go far, I want to be able to see where you are at all times, am I clear?"
"Okay Daddy, I won't go far."
Kailey ran outside and looked around for something, anything to do, that was the problem when you lived out in the sticks, there was absolutely nothing to do, and then she noticed a tree stump across the road and decided she would see if she could hit it with a rock.
Kailey had managed to hit the tree stump a couple of times, and as luck would have it when she threw another rock, the man who lived across the road would pick that time to come home and she could only stare in horror as the rock sailed through the air and hit the side of his truck.
James parked his truck and got out to inspect the place where the rock had hit. He noticed that it didn't do much damage, nothing that a little touch up paint wouldn't take care of, just a small scratch, nevertheless, he walked over to where Kailey was standing, "Hey little girl, what were you thinkin' throwin' rocks in the road?"
"I wasn't throwin' them in the road; I was tryin' to hit that stump across the road." As soon as she'd said it she realized that it probably wasn't the smartest thing to say if James' stern look was anything to go by.
James wanted to pop her little butt for the attitude "I don't care what you were tryin' to hit, you know better than to throw rocks towards the road, come on we're goin' to go tell your daddy what you've been up to."
"No, please don't tell my Daddy, I'll get in trouble." Kailey begged.
"You should get in trouble, what you did was not only wrong, it's illegal, if you were my child I'd bust your butt for it."
"But Daddy will whoop me for it," Kailey whined.
James ignored the whining and knocked on her Dad's door, John answered it." What can I do for you?" He asked then noticed Kailey standing beside him. "What did Kailey do?"
"I caught her throwin' rocks into the road and she hit my truck with one, it didn't do much damage, just a little scratch that can be repaired with a little touch up paint but, I thought you should know." James explained.
John was not happy with his daughter. He reached out and took her by the arm and spun her around and planted three stinging swats to her backside.
"Ow Daddy, that hurt." She said trying to rub the sting out.
"It's gonna hurt more in a minute, now apologize to Mr. Hansen for hittin' his truck."
"Sorry for hittin' your truck with a rock, Mr. Hansen, it won't happen again."
"Thanks for the apology and it better not happen again."
"It won't I will never throw rocks in the road again."
John took his daughter inside and James went back to his house. John was sure gonna make sure Kailey never so much as even thought about throwing rocks in the road again.
"Kailey, go to your room, I'll be in there in a minute to deal with you."
Kailey hung her head and walked to her room, there was no point arguing with her Dad once his mind was made up. John went to his room and got the paddle and made his way to his daughter's room. It didn't surprise Kailey when she saw the paddle in her Dad's hand, she had expected as much. He sat down on the bed and motioned her towards him. "Come here Kailey."
Kailey hesitantly shuffled over to her Dad's side. He wasted no time pulling her over his lap; she knew what she had done wrong. He lifted the paddle into the air and brought it down onto her backside with a loud thwack. Five more whacks later had Kailey squirming and reaching back to stop him hitting her again. He simply held her hands out of the way and continued the spanking. "Why are you getting this spanking?"
"Because I threw a rock and it hit Mr. Hansen's truck. I'm sorry I won't do it again." Kailey answered sniffling.
"I know you won't." John said delivering five final swats. He allowed his daughter to stand up. "You're going to sit down and write an apology letter to James."
"But Daddy, I already apologized."
"Well, you're gonna do it again in writing."
Kailey conceded and sat down at her desk and began writing the letter. Thirty minutes later she was finished and got up and went to find her Dad. "I'm done with the letter." She said handing it to him.
John looked over the letter, "Okay come on we're going over to the neighbor's so you can give him the letter." With that they walked across the road and knocked on James' door. His wife answered.
"Well hello, how are you guys doing?" Michelle asked.
"Good, Kailey has something to give your husband."
"James, Kailey is here with something for you." Michelle hollered for her husband.
James walked to the door. Kailey handed him the letter. "I'm really sorry for throwin' the rock and hittin' your truck."
James took the letter and read it. "I accept your apology, just don't do it again."
"I won't besides Daddy will spank me if I ever throw rocks again." Kailey answered a blush creeping across her face.
"You have my permission to bust her butt if you ever catch her doin' somethin' she's not supposed to be doin'" John said and Kailey could tell he was serious.
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that." James said and with that they said their goodbyes and John and Kailey walked back to their house.
