Prolouge

Hello everyone! This is GBG here with my first story on this website! Let's get it on!

Disclaimers: This story and all of its content belong to me.

Note: This will be modified after story is completed, so if it confuses you a bit, just keep reading.

Prologue: (In Italics because it's a memory (Oops spoiler!))

I laughed merrily as I chased my sister around the playground. I may be a little too old for all of this but who cares? I was having fun and that's all that mattered to me. I looked at my dad, who was watching us from his car. It looked like he was checking something on his laptop.

I suppose now might be a good time for an introduction. My name is Robert and I'm eleven years old. My health seems normal-I'm averaged height with average weight, but I'm not normal really. My hair is a snowy white color and my eyes are emerald green, unlike everyone else, but the main thing that got everyone around me questioning was the extra limb behind me-I had a tail.

Most of the time, people look at me like I'm some kind of mutant animal or something-they look at me with fear. But after they get to know me, they find that I'm not much different than other people. Unsurprisingly, I'm one of the most popular kids at my school, which can be a bad thing at times because some people want to touch my wolf-like tail. I don't like people touching my tail because it's very sensitive and it hurts when people rub it incorrectly. The only people who know the right way to touch my tail are my family, and my closest friends.

So I'm chasing my sister around in the park until we both hear a loud siren, making both of us cover our ears. Dad turned on his sirens and gave me a certain signal that meant he had an emergency. I gave him a thumbs-up and he took off. Dad and I were very close, we even came up with multiple signals that meant different things so that Mom or my sister, Megan didn't know what we were saying. It was funny when they looked at us with confused glances.

Megan shouted at me, breaking into my thoughts and making me turn around to face her. She was swinging dangerously high on the swings. I told her not to swing so high, which she complied, and I got on the swings myself. We swung around like that until my dad got back from his emergency. Then we all headed home and ate dinner.

Both me and Dad quickly said hello to Mom and practically ran into the kitchen and dived into dinner. I looked at Dad trying to contain my laughter. We always thought about everything the same way. Hey, great minds think alike.

Eventually, Mom and Megan walked into the room, both of them shaking their heads. I rolled my eyes and turned back to my dinner. Just like me and Dad, Mom and Megan always think like one person. However, all of our thoughts counteract with each other. Me and Dad's thoughts are goofy and impulsive, but Mom and Megan's thoughts are serious and mature, even if Megan is only 9 years old. Nonetheless, we're all a family and we're one that won't break apart.

Mom sighed lovingly and walked up behind me and began to stroke my tail the right way. I sighed contently and looked over at Dad and saw Megan hugging him. When people rub my tail the right way, it's very enjoyable. But even if I should consider my tail a gift, I can help but think that it's a sign of some sort...

Well that's the prolouge; how was it? Please leave a tip for me so I can improve my writing. I'll be adding the first chapter right after this. GBG out!

2: Chapter 1
Chapter 1

Well here's Chapter 1! Let's read!

Chapter 1:

That was five years ago.

Now, everything's different, nothing is as bright as it was back then. And it all changed because of one thing.

They began to appear.

However, I wasn't fooled by their illusions. I saw the signs. But when I told other people, they laughed and thought I was joking around.

Well, look what happened because of that.

I often find streets with several bodies on the ground. Sometimes when I look at their faces I can still see one emotion in them: disbelief. But I never stopped believing-I knew they were there, it seemed like I was the only one who knew. Then realization hit me three years ago like a brick.

If I couldn't get someone to believe me, everyone I knew was going to die.

For two years, I struggled to get others to believe me, but I failed. Then I decided to talk to the only people who I thought would help. I talked to my family.

When I told them about the signs I got a silent response at first but then my dad spoke up.

"So what are we going to do about it?"

When I looked at him I expected to see his normal silly expression there, but all I saw was determination, and one other thing. I saw belief.

So my family did what we had to do. We locked down our house and we stayed there unless we absolutely had to leave. I even began to invent futuristic weapons. The one day, it finally happened.

But my family stayed in one place and we waited. We waited until we knew it was over. And now when we go outside, we have to look behind ourselves every ten seconds.

Because when you're badly outnumbered and badly outmatched, sometimes you just have to adapt new ways to live.

I serve as my family's protector, meaning I'm the one who makes sure we're all safe. Each time someone has to leave the house, I go with them. Every time someone hears a strange noise in the house, I go to investigate. Whenever they somehow get in the house, in the one to stop them. To fight, I use close quarter combat, and one of my few successful weapons, the Multi-Purpose Duel-Wield Double-Edged Sword.

I know it's a long name, but I included everything the sword is in the name. The sword has the ability to transform into different tools and weapons, such as a motion sensor, an automatic mini-gun turret, and many other things. It can also break in half, allowing me to use it as duel-wield swords, and other things. I even gave it an abbreviation, the MPDE. Now it's not as hard to say the name.

Now back to my family. My sister has two jobs. One is a co-protector, and the other is a retriever. It's her job at times to go get supplies when necessary. However I don't always go with her for multiple reasons. One because she doesn't want me to sometimes, and two because I trained her to fight with the MPDE. Even if she's only fourteen years old, she's been through a lot and she knows how to take care of herself. What she doesn't know is that no matter when she leaves the house, I'm always watching her.

My mom and dad have the same jobs. They both stay in the house as lookouts and warn me, or Megan if I'm elsewhere, if they get into the house. In order to protect them, and me and Megan, I Invented another tool to help us out, I call it the camouflage suit. When you're wearing the suit, you can camouflage into any surface once you stay still long enough. And they are so brainless, they won't see you at all if you're camouflaged.

I suppose you're wondering who they are, yes? Let me answer your question with a question. Have you heard of the apocalypse?

So back to what I was saying, we all defend each other like that, and obviously it works because we're still alive after the past three years.

So now let's get to the present. I'm sitting perched on top of a small two story building, armed with my Camo Suit, and one of my MPDE's, watching my sister as she walked towards the grocery store. Our family was low on supplies and we need more and Megan, being the receiver, had to go get some more. As she walked out of my sight I jumped onto the one story building next to the building I was just on. Then suddenly Megan stopped and pulled out the MPDE sword and set it on double sword and turned in a circle slowly. I knew something was wrong.

I jumped off of the building and set my long tail on the ground while I took a knee. Sure enough, I felt vibrations in the ground. Over the past five years, my tail grew and I invented a technique only I could use, I call it ground-scanning. Since my tail was so sensitive, I could sense the vibrations in the ground. But when the ground vibrates, it doesn't mean a truck coming down the street; it means they are coming out of it.

I began to hear noises, like an eerie screaming. My Camo Suit began to become the color of the concrete below me, so I put my belly on the floor and stayed there for a moment. I almost jumped when I saw them coming from the alley behind me. Then the one thing began to happen that I didn't want to happen: my tail started to twitch; the tail part of my suit began to brush against the concrete and eventually, my suit fell out of sync and returned to its normal color. At first none of them saw me and I thought I could get away, but one of them saw me and began to started to freak out, alerting the rest of them to my existence, including Megan.

"Robert?" She asked disbelievingly, "What are you doing here?"

"Protecting you that's what." I retorted, "Look we can talk about this later, right now we need to beat these zombies."

We wasted no time as the group of six or seven zombies surrounded us. Since it was a small group, we easily got rid of them.

"Now why were you following me?" Megan asked angrily.

"Well, the truth is I always follow you." I admitted.

"You do what?" She looked furious now.

"Let's walk and talk." I told her.

"Fine." She seemed angry, but she might calm down once I explain.

"So you've been following me, huh?" she begins to talk, "So I've never really been going out on my own? What gives you the right to stalk me?"

Stalking isn't the word. I thought to myself "My title." I retorted, "Don't forget that I'm the protector, which means I protect."

"Whatever Robert." She dismissed the argument, to my relief, and we headed to the grocery store, with me checking the ground with my tail every minute or so. The zombies apparently chose to leave us alone and we got back home no problem. I said hi to mom and dad and asked them how things went. Once I had the all clear, I went to my invention room. Today I felt lucky; like I was going to have a breakthrough.

This is it-if I could pull this off, I'd finally be able to call this invention a success. I've been in my invention room for two hours now and I've almost finished this project. I just had to move this one part very carefully and…

"I did it!" I whispered loudly to no one in particular. As I took my newly modified custom Camo Suit and hung it in its usual place, I went to my invention list and checked off improved Camo Suit.

What I've been doing for the past two hours if modifying my Camo Suit so now it will stay in sync with surfaces better. Allow me to explain; whenever I feel worried about anything, my tail will sometimes start twitching. When and if I was wearing my Camo Suit and blending into a surface when my tail twitched, the suit would lose sync with the surface and would change back to its normal color. But now with the modifications, the suit will be able to blend in with surfaces even if my tail is twitching.

As I checked it off of the list, I looked at the one item above it: Camo Texture

It was an idea I had for another modification to the Camo Suit but when the suit camouflaged, the suit's texture would change to match the texture of the surface. Unfortunately, I still haven't figured out how to modify it yet. But I'm not giving up on it yet; I'll figure it out.

I decided it was about time to go to sleep, considering the time. I did my usual routine of arming the traps and pulling out an extra MPDE and setting it to motion sensor. Then I finally got into bed and almost quickly fell asleep.

Whew! That took a while to write! Well now I'm not just correcting the story as I go, but now I'm actually writing it so I won't be updating everyday. I even have an idea for another story I think I'm going to write. So see you guys later! GBG out!

3: Chapter 2
Chapter 2

And I'm back everyone! This one is probably going to be shorter than the other chapter, but I was rushing to get it done. Enjoy! Disclaimers: All characters belong to me and everything else in this story (except the idea of zombies).

I woke up quickly, thinking I heard something. It must've been my imagination, because nothing was there.

Same stuff, different day. I thought. That's what it seemed like: everyday was just the same as yesterday, only it was today. Wake up, patrol, eat, fight zombies, patrol, eat, stand guard on the roof, eat, sleep, repeat. Nothing seemed to change, but as far as I know, nothing is going to; my family is the last human family alive that I know, and it's most likely going to stay that way.

"Hey Megan, wake up; I think I heard something." My voice was dull, almost lifeless. What can I say? Fighting zombies for a year can really take the life out of you.

"Alright Robert, let's go." Megan muttered, falling out of her bed. We got our gear on and descended down the stairs, looking for anything suspicious. My MPDE didn't go off, so maybe it was just my imagination.

"Looks like nothing's down here; must've been your imagination." Megan announced, expressing my thoughts.

I shrugged it off, "Better safe than sorry." I pointed out as I picked up my MPDE.

"Well I'm going to go train downstairs." Megan said as she went down into the basement. I sighed as I watched her go; training is all we can do now. You probably have texting your friends or Facebook or Twitter like we used to, but there's no one left to talk to. So Megan spends her spare time training while I go and work on my tools and try to figure out what caused all of this. This may be the apocalypse, but I know nothing just happens without a cause. This is one of the things I've been studying since all of this has happened. But last time I checked, you don't learn about the apocalypse in science class, so I'm basically on my own, looking up things like Voodoo, which is said to be able to "zombify" people, but I think there's another cause behind this. Something illogical; something unexpected. Whatever it is continues to elude me, and refuses to reveal itself.

So I spent the rest of the day in my workshop, tinkering with my inventions and continuing to determine the cause of the apocalypse. Then something hit me: the zombies don't fall from the sky; they come out of the ground, so maybe whatever the cause is in the ground or something. It's a bit far-fetched, but so is an apocalypse occurring for no reason.

I went downstairs to check out Megan, who was training, just like she said.

"Meg," I called her and disengaged the training system, "I have a theory."

"What is it this time, Robert?" Megan asked skeptically.

"Well we know zombies come out of the ground, right?"

"Duh."

"Well, what if the ground has something to do with it?"

"Like how?" She seemed to be getting interested.

"Like maybe there's a chemical in the ground causing the apocalypse."

"But why would it just start doing what it's doing all of a sudden?"

"I don't know; maybe something else caused it to react, or someone could have injected it or something."

"Seems reasonable, but how will you find out if it's true?"

"I was thinking we could test the zombies' skin or something to see if there's a strange chemical on them."

Megan lit up at the prospect of getting to kill some zombies, "I'll get my suit."

Two hours later, we were perched on top of yet another building, waiting for the zombies to show.

"Ugh, where are they?" Megan whispered impatiently.

"Relax we've only been here for like five minutes." I pointed out.

"You would think that would be long enough." She muttered.

I felt the building rumble a bit, "Hush." I told her quickly.

"Why?" I pointed to the zombies walking out in the street, "Oh."

"On my mark." I ordered. I waited for them to get closer and… "Now."

We leapt from our hiding place and landed rather clumsily on the ground, alerting the zombies of our presence. One of them shrieked and charged at me. I simply dodged its attacks and retaliated with my swords. The zombie made a strange gurgling sound and fell to the ground, its eyes drained of "life".

The next one charged at me, then the next, and another after that. It really wasn't a challenge to beat them. You just have to make sure you don't get hit. One hit from the zombies, and you're probably gone.

One after another, zombies were dropping like stones at the hands of me and Megan, yet they just keep coming. Well, I was noticing this, and I sure was getting tired of it. Just fighting and fighting and fighting…

"Meg, Battle Strategy number two-twenty five." I called out.

"Got it; on your mark."

"Now." I broke my MPDE in half as Megan crouched down. I began to attack the zombies they were trying to attack her, while she attacked the ones that were trying to get to me. "Switch." I called and we switched places. After two more calls, they finally seemed to stop coming.

"Okay Battle Strategy two-twenty five: success." I announced, "Now we need to scan one of these, then scan another to confirm."

Me and Megan each scanned one zombie with and eventually came up with the same results:

"Nothing." We both said it as the same time.

"Well that theory proved false." I muttered, but Megan's scanner started beeping.

"Wait." Megan said suddenly. What she said next put a bundle of feelings into me:

"The zombies are running on…electricity?"

And cliffhanger kinda. Well, I'm getting to work on chapter three ASAP and I'll be done ASAP. I'll be back soon! GBG out!
