A boy sat on the grass by his house, staring at the clouds in the sky. He didn't want to move and he refused to go inside. A girl was sat beside him, she too was looking up at the clouds. The only sound to be heard was the muffled yell from inside their house, behind them. "You know. Sometimes I would just like to run to somewhere quiet, somewhere safe." The girl said. She looked away from the clouds and stared at her hands in her lap, letting her white hair fall in front of her face. Her brother, the boy, looked at her and sighed. He knew what she meant. Their parents were always fighting. He brushed his hand through his equally white hair and lay on the grass beneath him, letting the cold seep in. The girl waved a hand in the air and the two disappeared from the view of passers by, even though they were still on the grass. The girl took off her long jacket and unfastened the straps that held down her wings. She unfolded the white feathers and sighed, looking at her brother. She hated that they couldn't where colour, anything that touched young angel skin turned to white so they could only see colour on other people.
A boy sat on the grass hidden behind his house, the wings on his back wet from the rain beating down on them. He lifted his hand to his face and rubbed his dull green eyes, the only colour he could ever have. It had been three weeks since his sister last sat on the grass with him and he missed her. He looked toward the house and he could see her dim figure in the window, blocked out by curtains. His parents didn't tell him what had happened, only that he couldn't see his sister anymore. "What happened Zoe?" He asked the window, even if she couldn't hear him he liked to think she could.
Drake Dove sat on the grass in front of his house alone. He had been sitting there every day on his own for a year. He could remember when his sister Zoe used to sit with him but now she didn't. He shook his head to stop the tears in his eyes and focused on the bird in the nest above his head. Drake wished he could show his wings, he wished he knew how to fly. But he had to sit on his own on the grass and watch as other kids got to go to school and have lives. At the age of eleven and Drake had no friends, he hadn't even talked to anyone his age ever in his short life.
Every morning as Drake sat alone he watched groups of kids walk to school, but there was always one boy that walked on his own. The boy that walked alone had dirty blond hair that was tied back into a short ponytail. The boy wore long sleeves, even in the summer and never strayed from his usual colour theme of black. This boy fascinated Drake and he had always thought about talking to him, but he never did. Drake sat alone as the blond walked alone, that was how it was.
The boy with dirty blond hair walked into school alone, no one went near him and they parted to form a path for the ten year old to walk down. He would cry but it would be a wast. The bell went to show lessons starting and the boy walked inside, pushing his blond fringe out of his cloudy grey eyes. The pointed teeth in his mouth pierced his lips as he bit down to keep in the anger.
Rory New walked home on his own and he always stopped at the corner of the street with the one white house. He stood so he could see the boy with the white hair but the boy couldn't see him. Rory remembered when there was a girl who sat there as well, but she stopped being there over one year ago. Rory always wanted to talk to the white haired boy but never did.
Drake sat on the grass listening the his parents shouting inside the house. "It's not their fault." He told the bird in the tree above his head. "They lost a baby, and now something's going on with Zoe as well." Suddenly a figure in front of him caught Drake's attention. "Hi." The blond boy who walked on his own said, bitting his lips. "Hi." Drake said. "I'm Rory." The blond said. Both boys felt awkward but the conversation continued. "I'm Drake." Drake informed Rory and gestured for him to sit down. Their shoulders touched for a second and the fabric Rory wore flashed white. Rory was scared and shuffled away from Drake, finding the material to change back to normal. "Angel." Rory said and hung his head. Drake was shocked and asked how he knew about angels. The boy with the blond hair opened his mouth to show a sharp row of teeth and evaporated for a second before reappearing in the same spot. "Vampire." Drake said.
Vampires and angels had been enemy's since they first met but how come the blond vampire was all Drake could think about, he was friends with Rory for a year after they first met but when Rory turned eleven he never came back, but still twelve year old Drake waited. Than thirteen year old Drake waited and fourteen year old Drake waited. But when it came time for fithteen year old Drake to wait he didn't, he just walked in silence as the rain beat onto him, finally giving up.
He stood by the bridge and waited. He wasn't sure what for but he felt like something was going to happen, it felt like someone was watching him from the shadows. Drake slowly took off his white shirt and threw it into the water below the bridge. Than he silently untied the straps on his wings, letting them unfold. "What are you doing angel?" A voice asked and Drake spun around, but he couldn't find the owner of the voice. "Giving up." Drake replied anyway. "I want to give up too." Drake recognised the voice but he couldn't think where from. "Why?" Drake asked. Trying to place the voice. "Because my mum beat me and when I though i'de finally made a friend she died and I was taken away from him." The person sounded like they were crying. "Who are you?" Drake asked, feeling worried for the voice. "I'm sorry I left Drake." The voice said and Drake froze. How did the voice know his name? Than the memory clicked and he remembered who's voice it was.
Drake felt like he was going to cry. Had he dreamed the voice? He ran about the bridge looking for its source but found none. "Rory?" He whispered. "I'm so sorry Drake... But no." There was movement behind him but before Drake could move arms were wrapped around him and he was throne to the floor. But the shadow was gone again before he could stand up. "They told me to forget emotion." The voice choked, still crying. "They told me I have to kill you." Something blew past Drake and it hit him square in the back of the head. Drake yelped and fell to the floor. "Don't bother, I'll kill myself." Drake said. He stood and walked to the railing of the bridge. "Let me see you." Drake said gripping the rail. There was silence as a form appeared beside him. It had grey skin and red eyes. It was dressed in ripped clothes and it's hair was past it's elbows. It's mouth was pulled into a grin with its cheeks split open. It was horrible but there were things that made Drake recognise the creature, small things like its height, two centre metres above Drake. It's eyelashes were long and the way it held its hands were delicate, not like a monster at all. Drake nodded and climbed on the bars, he had never learned to fly and that would work to his advantage. He held his breath and fell.
Drake could see the water getting closer and closed his eyes. But suddenly he felt arms being wrapped around him and a strange feeling like being broken up and put back together. He hit solid ground, not water, but kept his eyes shut. The impact of the ground wasn't shattering, like he had only fell a metre instead of twenty off a bridge. The arms were still wrapped around him and he watched as the grey hands turned instead into milky skin. "You saved me? Why?" He asked. "It's all my fault! I left and now you want to die! I'm so sorry!" Drakes hero yelled and gripped him tighter. Drake squirmed in the figures arms to find he was laying on top of the other body. He looked at the pale features and into the wide eyes that were changing from red to grey. "Hi Drake." Rory said after he stopped yelling. Drake couldn't think of what to do so he brought his face close to Rory's and touched their noses together. "Hi Rory." He said.
As the two boys were lying on the floor the clouds began to cry and rain fell across the city. Drake moved his wings to bloke the water and smiled at Rory. He felt a weird feeling in his stomach as he looked into Rory's eyes and suddenly wanted to kiss the other boy. The logic side of his brain was screaming at him and Drake was so confused. Did he want to kiss Rory? "Rain." Rory sang as he played with some of Drake's white hair. "Wait... Rain," he said, making a confused face. Drake was still thinking about why he would want to kiss a boy, when Rory's words cut through his own thoughts. "Can I call you Rain?" Rory asked. "I'de like that." Rain said grinning at the other boy. They both sat up and away from each other and smiled. "Rain." Rory said, reaching a hand out to stroke Rains wet hair. Rain didn't know why but he caught Rory's hand. Rory gave his a 'I don't understand' look and Rain dropped his hand. But noticed Rory blushing violently. Rain leaned forward and kissed Rory's lips for one second before pulling away and blushing. "Oh my god! I'm so so sorry Rory! I don't know why I- I kind of- oh my god!" Rain grabbed the back of Rory's neck and pulled him in for another kiss, smiling when he felt Rory kiss him back.
2: You are DeathNothing lasts forever, sometimes things will only last a day or an hour. But Rory lasted one second before he evaporated, leaving Rain on his own as water fell on his wings and back. "Why the hell Zoe!" He yelled, crying. "Why didn't you tell me not to get caught in this!" He was angry and hit the ground at his feet. "Vampires can't be trusted!" He yelled, clawing his fingers through his soaked hair. "Your my sister! You're supposed to protect me! You're supposed to help me!" He punched the concrete at his feet and pulled his hair. "Why do I feel like this?" He whispered, staring at his reflection in a puddle. "Vampires can't be trusted." He said. But he knew he wanted to trust Rory, but he knew he shouldn't. "The vampire left me in the rain, left me as Rain." His white hair turned brown slowly as he watched the colour spread to his wings and die the feathers gold. "I'm sorry." Rory's voice echoed from behind him.
Rain swiped a punch at the boy and it hit Rory's shoulder. "I'm so sorry!" Rory yelled, crying, but Rain was still mad. "You named me." He said slowly. "You know what that does." Rory looked at him. "You kissed me Rain, it's not all my fault." He said. "Just leave vampire. I don't know why I kissed you but it doesn't matter." Rain looked at his own wings and the gold hurt his eyes, it was a vampire mark. A sign that Rain had let a Vampire name him, it would never go away. "I'm sorry." Rory said, turning away. "I'm sorry Drake." He evaporated and Rain was left alone.
The next week was spent in chains, in his own house, he had been named by a vampire and that was against the law. A mirror stood I front of the angel so he could see the brown of his hair and the gold of his wings, so he knew what he had done, forever. Rain looked out the window as water splashed on the ground. "Why did I kiss him?" Rain asked the empty room. He could only think about the vampire and it was driving him mad.
She stood in her room, her black hair grew long past her shoulders as the seventeen year old form looked out the window at the rain on the windows, her long gold wings hit her back as she watched drops of water on the glass. She tilted her head at a voice coming from the room next to her, her brothers room. She silently moved and put her hand on the wall. He was crying, she could tell. "What's wrong Drake?" She asked, wishing she could see him. She heard the clunk of chains and was shocked. "Why are you locked up?" She asked the wall. She had always talked as if her brother was with her, even after she was chained into her room. She heard him muttering so she pressed her ear to the wall. "Why did I kiss him?" She heard him say. "I'm so confused. How can I like a vampire? They can't be trusted. He's left me before and he'll do it again." He sighed. "I guess I'm Rain now." He laughed slightly. Zoe, in her room, stopped listening and stared at the wall in front if her. 'He kissed a vampire?' She thought. 'He kissed a male vampire?' Zoe tilted her head to the side. She looked at her own palm where 'you are Death' was burnt into her hand and she looked at her golden wings. "Well New, to bad you're dead or you would have seen your own son fall for an angel."
Rain was chained up still when Rory came, appearing in his small room. "You're not Rain, you're Drake." Rory told him and they stood in silence before Rory sighed and felt like he was going to cry. "I'm sorry I named you, I wasn't thinking." Rory said, Rain didn't answer. "I'm so sorry Drake, please talk to me." Rory was crying. "I'm not Drake." Rain said, shaking his gold wings. "I'm Rain." He looked up at the vampire. "Thank you." He said. "For what?" Rory asked him. "You saved me on that bridge." Rain said and smiled. There was a a bang on the wall and the two boys looked up, Rory's skin turned grey and red flashed in his eyes. "Don't Rory, that's just my sister." Rain said, looking at the floor.
Death hit the wall again. Her hands hurt but she had to talk to the vampire, but she knew he wouldn't come to her. "Drake!" She yelled. She never wanted him to see her with gold wings but it was too late now and he had gold wings as well. "Drake!" She yelled. "Rain!" She yelled, hitting the wall again. "I'm sorry Rain! I'm sorry I left you! To many people have left you! I'm so sorry!" There was no answer from her brother. "I'm Death! She named me Death! I thought I could trust her! Don't make that mistake!" She could tell that the vampire was falling for him, from what she heard of Rain's mutters Rory had saved him. But he couldn't trust a vampire. "I'm sorry Rain." She sighed and moved away from the wall. "You can't trust him." She said. "You can't trust him!" She yelled and collapsed to the floor.
Rain was crying as he heard his sister's words. "Bye Rain." Rory whispered. Rain didn't say anything but looked at him with pleading eyes. "I'll destroy you one day if I stay, sorry Rain." Rory placed a hand on Rain's cheek. "Forget about me, forget about Rain. Just be Drake." With that he evaporated and Rain was left alone, silent tears slipped down his cheeks.
A week passed and Rain missed Rory more than he had ever missed someone before. He knew Rory wouldn't come back, and that he shouldn't trust him, but he wanted him to come back, he wanted to trust the vampire. "Zoe?" He asked the wall. Death heard him and stood up from the floor. "Hi Rain." She said. "I'm Drake." He said. "I know you want to be Rain more than you want to be Drake." Death said calmly. "It's been years since we last talked." He said. "We are the same now. We were both named by vampires." Death said, touching the wall. "What does purple mean?" Rain asked and Death froze, moving away from the wall. She knew everything about angel colours. "Why?" She asked, sounding panicked. "Wings." Rain said. There was a long pause but Death finally answered. "You're falling in love with the vampire." "What!" Rain yelled. "I'm can't be falling in live with- oh my god I- what? I- I'm falling in love with- I love Rory."
