Prologue

Prologue:

That night, it was raining heavily. The streets were empty, and most windows were dark, save for those few sleepless people. The streetlights were having a war against the darkness, fighting to intrude it with the Little light it could produce.

A lone cat was running with all its might, trying desperately to get out of the rain. It spotted a deserted corner, and fled to it. The corner was empty, save for a few trashcans. The cat spotted shelter between two of the trashcans, where one of the lids had fallen. It wasn't much, but anything counted at the moment.

Lying there, it could do nothing but listen to the falling rain, hitting the ground as well as the trashcans. The sounds made the cat shiver.

Soon, sleep took over the cat, and it found itself in the dreamworld, where anything was possible. It didn't know how much time had passed, nor did it know, if it had slept for a few minutes or hours.

But the cat's sleep was short-lived, as it woke to the sound of splashing footsteps. Alert now, the cat raised its head, its ears perked up and sensitive to any form of sound.

The footsteps was getting near the deserted corner, and the cat could pick up the smell of sweat, as well as fear. The footsteps sounded more and more like running, and the cat shrinks further into its little shelter, trying to be invisible.

Soon, the owner of the footsteps halted, and came to a stop besides the cat's hiding place, and the cat could identify the person to be female. She was panting heavily, and she was bent forward, her hands on her knees.

The cat found itself unable to stop a little sound that came from its throat. The girl heard it, and immediately spun around, looking for the sound. She clearly knew, that the cat was there, yet the cat wasn't scared.

Quite the opposite, it was calming down. This female was very gentle by nature...it could just tell.

She knelt down, extending her hand out and called out to the cat.

"Come here, sweetie...its okay, I won't hurt you..."

The cat slowly walked out of its shelter, shivering once again as the cold rain hit it.

"That's it...you're such a nice cat..." She said, giving the cat the most loving smile it had seen. Her eyes were pure, and held such kindness towards it, making the cat want to be close to her, feel her warmth...

"...There she is! At that corner there!" A voice boomed out from nowhere, and the cat identified it to be male. The air suddenly grew hostile, and the female stood up, ready to run.

"Why can't they just leave me alone..." She said, a sudden sadness looming over her.

She looked at the cat with sad eyes.

"You should hide...I don't want them to hurt you."

And the cat obliged.

She ran away, and shortly after, the male, along with others, ran into the corner.

"Damn that bitch! She's a fast one, eh?" One of them said.

"This way!" Another one announced, and they all left.

The cat was alone once again, with only the rain as its company.

With time passing, the cat couldn't help but wonder what the future held for that female.
