Sam Herrett looks like any other normal high school Jr. She doesn't like school and tries to get good grades. Her only difference is that she is a victim of abuse from her Step-father, a renown scientist, and the School's clique ruled by the most popular snob Betty, daughter of the school's president. No one has ever tried to help her besides her only friend, Sanderson, who's nickname for Sam is Bird Girl, and one of her only comfort is drawing. On the night of her birthday, her step-father goes too far and does something he shouldn't have. On the run, she turns to the only person who has ever helped her in order to stay safe. Will her nickname live up to its prospect or will she come crashing down to Earth? The only way to find out is to fly.
