"I'm here to take you to The Other Side," the chicken said, cocking its head toward the thin strip of road. A man wakes up by the side of the highway in the desert, with no memory of where where or even who he is, and only a chicken to talk to. It orders him to stick out his thumb, and he hitches a ride with a lady trucker, who drops him at the truck stop and tells him that if he wants to go the rest of the way to the city, he'll have to pay... It's a real shaggy dog story.
