It was dark, he couldn't see anything. Not his paw, not his wing. He tried to speak, but it sound gibberish to him. Was his eyes even open? No, he was sure his eyes were looking around. But, all he saw was darkness. Was this what being alone felt like? His ears perked up as someone spoke,

"Skull? Are you okay?" He didn't get a chance to answer. "It's going to be alright! I'll get you to mom, you'll live!"

Skull didn't feel like everything would be alright. It felt like it was all very wrong. Maybe he was dying, he could be blind, but why couldn't he speak? Or this could be a dream, or a nightmare. He tried to use his other senses, he could feel fur under him and feathers on his sides. Then it seemed he was dumped on steel table.

"Tell me he's okay!" The same voice from before shouted.

"Skull? Sweetie, can you hear me?" A face nuzzled his and Skull recognized this as his mother's touch. He nodded his head. "Can you see me?" He shook his head. "He must be blind…" Oh, so he was blind.

"B...Blind…?" The first voice from before sounded stunned.

"Yes, blind. But other than that, he's okay."

Paws wrapped around his body. "I'm so sorry Skull, how can you ever forgive me?"

Then it hit him like a brick to the head. He knew this touch, it was his brother's. He briefly remembered the argument, he remembered running out upset, he remembered being attacked by a rogue mage. That must've been what happened. He blindly tried to hug back, he must have succeeded, because he hugged back harder.

"It's okay, I'm not dead after all." He felt his voice dry from not speaking.

"But you're blind now." His brother sounded sad and lonely.

"I'm not the only blind Mystic on the Island." Even through his blindness he knew another protest was coming. "Don't worry about how it's going to be okay, just roll with the flow."

It was silent before the other spoke. "The term is go with the flow."

Skull clapped his gray paws, "There's the brother I know and love." He glared as he felt a paw ruffling his fur.

He heard his mother gush, "Oh you two are so adorable as ever!"

Skull sighed. "MOTHER, Tom and I were having a moment."

Tom made an annoyed noise. "We weren't having a moment."

That's when Skull realized, though it was dark, he wasn't alone.

I actually wrote this for a school assignment, but my teacher told me I didn't get to the point quick enough and it sounded like this came out of a novel. And he gave me a C. And now I have to retake the class.
