“Kailey Marie, I’m not gonna tell you again to get up, it’s time to get ready for church.” John hollered from the kitchen for the third time in fifteen minutes.
“Okay Daddy, I’m getting up,” she said burying her head deeper under the covers; she had no intention of getting up so early.
Five more minutes had passed and there was still no sign of his stubborn daughter. Frustrated John walked to her bedroom to make her actually get out of the bed. “Last chance Kailey, get up now.”
Kailey didn’t respond so John did the one thing he knew would get her moving; he pulled the cover off her and swatted her butt. Kailey jumped up rubbing her butt, “Ow Daddy that hurt.”
“You have five minutes to get at the table for breakfast; you really don’t want me to have to come back in here.” He said sternly.
“Okay Daddy” She knew from previous experience not to test her Dad. She went into the bathroom to do her business and was sitting at the table within the allotted time. After breakfast was finished they both went to get dressed for church. Kailey put on her pink, sparkly Hello Kitty dress while John, never one for the suit and tie look, opted for a teal and navy checkered button up shirt and a pair of his nicer blue jeans.
Soon Kailey and John were in the truck on their way to church; once they got there John took Kailey to her Sunday school class, and then went to his. Kailey’s class had a lesson on being made in God’s image; she even got to pick a prize out of the treasure box for being able to recite the previous week’s bible memory verse. She chose a pink stretchy flying monkey. When Sunday school was over and Kailey sat down in the sanctuary with her Dad, everyone stood to sing a couple hymns and modern worship songs.
After the offering and prayer the preacher stood up to bring his sermon, which was on the subject of making honorable choices. Kailey really tried to listen to the preacher, but being eight she quickly became interested in her prize from the treasure box. John noticed what she was doing, “Put that up before you let go of it and it…” but before he could finish his sentence the monkey flew out of her hands and hit the lady sitting in front of them. John popped Kailey’s leg “Apologize to Mrs. White for hitting her and then sit still and listen to the preacher.” John whispered to her while pocketing the toy.
Kailey did as she was told and whispered an apology to Mrs. White for hitting her with the monkey. Mrs. White smiled at her accepting her apology. Kailey sat still for all of five minutes before she started squirming, “Daddy I have to pee.” She whispered.
“Go, but come straight back, don’t make me have to come looking for you.” He whispered back. She got up and went to the restroom and was honestly gonna come straight back, but the  water fountain just looked too appealing, then the books that were sitting on a small table just needed to be picked up and examined. Kailey realized she must have taken too long when she saw her Daddy coming to get her. He took her by the hand and led her outside the church. Kailey knew she was in trouble because her Daddy never took her outside unless he was going to spank her. Not wanting him to do it she began to plead with him “No Daddy, you don’t have to spank me I was gonna come back.”
“Kailey, it does not take ten minutes to use the bathroom, when I tell you to do something you do it.” John said turning his daughter around and planting six stinging swats to her backside. Kailey started rubbing her butt. “That hurt daddy.”
“It was meant to, now come on let’s go back inside. A more subdued Kailey walked back into the church with her Dad. This time she sat down on the pew and tried not to squirm as she listened to the preacher finish his sermon. 
After church was over they shook hands with everybody and got in the truck and headed home. “Kailey Marie, I am very disappointed in your behavior in church this morning, you are old enough to know how to behave in church, if you ever behave in church like that again I will whoop your butt there and then we will have a discussion with my belt once we get home, do you understand me young lady?”
“Yes Daddy, it won’t happen again.” She said not making eye contact. “Can I have my monkey back now?
John reached into his front shirt pocket and handed Kailey her toy back. Kailey took it and happily played with it for the rest of the drive home.
