Prologue: To Overthrow

I am absolutely done; I'm not going to deal with this hellhole of a queen.

That queen has been discriminating against us faerie knights for the past twenty years, first she restricts us with a few rules regarding our attacks to our enemies, then adds more restrictions on when we can attack and now down to calling us 'unseelie'. Unseelie? Are you kidding me? The regular faeries are called the seelie and we're the unseelie? We are not the opposite of the faeries; we're just a sub-species.

And guess what she decides to do now? Do the same thing with the faeries! Restrict them just like us and now she's forbidding us to leave the village.

I punch the wall in frustration. This is outrageous! Why hasn't our commander taken action? What is stopping her from overthrowing the queen? What is stopping all of us faeries to overthrow her?

I pace around my room, trying to let the steam out but utterly fail to. I plop down on my bed, why won't someone just go and kick her off the throne. I realize what I thought and sit up, why don't I just go and stop her? If nobody's going to stop her then it's up to me.

I went to my closet and changed into comfortable pants, a slightly loose top, and a cloak with a large enough hood to conceal my face.

As I pull the hood over my head, it got caught on my earring. I tried to yank the cloth off of the earring but it was stubborn and kept pulling on my earring.

"Forget this." I said to myself and unclipped the earring off of my earlobe.

Once I could see where exactly my earring got caught, I was able to easily take it off. I look at the earring that's now in my hand.

What's the use of this earring? It originally was supposed to be something that defined all of us faerie knights but now it just serves as a marker. We can't stand proud with it, it degrades us, who would've thought that our earring that represents us in light backfires on us. I clench my hand. This earring is of no use now, not until that queen is off that throne.

I put the earring down on the top of my dresser and look around my room. If all goes wrong, it might be the last time I'm in this room.

I smile, "Goodbye."

I grab my sword from the side of the dresser, open the window, and crawled out.

I land right outside of the queen's meeting room. If I remember she always has an afternoon meeting and it should be ending or has ended at around this time.

I peer inside of the room through the window. A person was in the seat that had it's back facing the window. That must be the queen in there.

I took a deep breath. All I need to do is use puppeteer to make her immobile and I can start to threaten her. That's just what I need to do; threaten, slowly stop her heart if she refuses to step down, and once she hands the crown over I'm done. I exhale.

I took the hilt of my sword and struck the glass of the window hard so it'll shatter open. Swiftly, I drop in and ran towards the figure sitting in the chair. Right when I'm behind the chair I point my sword at the figure's neck.

"Do as I tell you to do and no harm will be involved." I say in a voice lower than usual to mask who I really am.

"Oh really?" a familiar voice came out of the mouth of the figure.

I froze. This wasn't the queen, she sounded more pretentious than this person. This person sounded calm and collected, a smoother tone of voice than the queen, the voice that I always here around the battlefield.

The commander.

I move my sword away and jump back at least a foot or two away. Why in the world was she alone in the meeting room? Did the meeting end early? Did it not even start yet? Where was the queen?

Thoughts race through my mind as I went into panic. I've failed now. The queen is going to come running in here and see me, an intruder, possibly think I'm an assassin that came to kill her.

The commander stood up from her seat and slowly turned around towards me, "I know that's you Morgana."

"I-I-I didn't think y-you w-w-would…" I stutter.

I was in much more of a panic than I thought I was.

"We all feel the same way Morgana." She says, "But now is not the time."

"How? We need her out of the throne immediately!" I yelled at her.

What in the world was she thinking? We don't think what she's doing is right, we should go against her ways! Isn't that what normal people do?

She just shook her head, "Listen to me Morgana, we don't have much time, the queen is going to come here very soon to check what happened."

She just ignored my question.

"Commander, we—"

With a speed that I couldn't catch with my eyes, she appeared right in front of me, covering my mouth.

"There are still things we need to find out." She whispered and shoved towards me a small, slightly heavy bag, "I think this will be enough money to start you off outside of this village and if things get really hard, just go to this kingdom called Camelot. I have a good friend over there and he'll be able to help you out."

I tried to say something to her but her hand over my mouth muffled my voice. As I try to convey my words, we both heard a group of people walking towards the meeting room. Time was running out.

The commander took this opportunity to give me a hug, "Stay safe, I don't want my best pupil to be gone forever."

"But—"

The commander broke our hug and looked at me straight in the eye, "No more questions, now go."

She turned me around and pushed my back. I turn my head around to look over at the commander. She gave me a nod.

I bite my lip and jump out of the window, releasing my wings to fly away from the scene.

She knew that I wanted to escape this village. She had human realm money ready for me so I won't suffer. She always knew what I was going to do.

My vision slightly blurred. No, I couldn't have altered vision while I fly. I wipe my eyes with my cloak.

I'll come back as soon as I can Commander Victoria.

2: Camelot
Camelot

2 years later

"I hope I'm going the right way." I said to myself as I keep walking along the never-ending straight trail.

If that person was right, Camelot should be right at the end of this trail.

I heard my feet trudge against the dirt, rays of sunlight pierced through the gap between the leaves, the same scenery felt like it went on forever. As soon as I was about to stop to take a rest, I saw the end of the trail that led to the bright sunlight.

I ran to the end of the trail and became blinded by the increased amount of light coming into my eyes. I squint and used my hand to block the sunlight to see what was in front of me.

Houses, a bunch of houses were in front of me. People we're greeting each other, some off to work, women making food inside of the house and children playing on the streets, surprisingly polite to each other. Out of all the kingdoms I've been in, this seems to be the liveliest.

Well of course, this was the Kingdom of Camelot. Rumor has it that all slaves are banned by law, magic users and non magic users live in harmony, and the King, named Arthur, having various connections with other kingdoms and magical species. Seems to be pretty happy place.

Whoever this King Arthur guy is, he is really good at negotiations to be able to hold that many relations with both humans and magical beings.

My eyes finally adjust to the light, I put my hand down to my side and took in a deep breath. This might be a nice town to relax in for awhile.

"Do you think there's going to be a lot of people at the marketplace today mom?" I heard a child ran past me excitedly.

The child's mom slowly walked past me, "Maybe, we have to get there and see."

A marketplace, I could use some food right now.

I pulled on my hood and casted glamour on my face and hair to conceal any feature that shouted out faerie. My long blue hair became a dull, straw colored, shoulder length hair, my bright blue eyes became a light hazel, my unnaturally even colored olive skin, turned a weird fair colored skin, my face slightly rounder.

I checked where my bag was money was and tugged my hood again; now to follow the mother and child to get to the marketplace.

That kid was right. This place was jam packed with people.

It was your typical marketplace, booths with fresh produce, cloths, clothes, shoes, souvenirs, and some accessories. And just like the kingdom, this place was lively as ever.

My ears filled up with the sound of bustling crowds, laughs, and music? Sounds like more like a festival than a marketplace to me. Maybe this isn't your typical marketplace, something surely felt off.

I decide to shake that thought away and walk at the pace of the people around me, looking left and right to see if I wanted anything in that booth to forget that thought.

The smell of the sweet smell of fruits hypnotized me for a second, but something really felt wrong. In this positive bright crowd, a dark negative energy surrounded it, like someone, no some people were around the perimeter of the marketplace.

I saw something move at the edge of my hood. I jerk my head towards the movement, but nothing was there.

"Weird." I say to myself and turn my head to face forward.

Suddenly a voiced entered my left ear out of nowhere, "Is something bothering you?"

I jumped a bit and jerk my head to the left to see a smiling man. He was slightly taller than me, maybe at most head taller, blond hair pulled back into a ponytail, green eyes that sparkle like a child even though he looked around like he was in his mid twenties. He wore slightly high-end clothes, possibly a noble?

"Oh I'm sorry, did I scare you?" the man inspected my face with a concerning look.

I shake my head, "No I'm fine."

"You jumped, you were scared." An annoyed voice joined the conversation.

Next to the blond man, another man rolled his eyes. He was slightly shorter than the blond man, his hair was an interesting color, it was either grey or silver, his blue eyes seemed to be annoyed at either the blond man or me, he looked like he was around the same age as the blond man, and wore similar high-end clothes.

"Rude." I thought.

"Sorry about him," the blond man sighed, "he's kind of cold to strangers."

"I can see that." I answer.

The silver-grey haired man had his arms crossed, his eyes just screamed, "I'm bored" at me. He obviously doesn't get along well with people.

"Anyways, before I possibly scared you, you said the word, 'weird' why is that?" the blond haired man asked again.

I wonder why he's so inclined in asking, saying weird to yourself doesn't really alarm people.

"Something just doesn't feel right." I shrug, "It's like there's something bad on the outside rim of this marketplace."

The blond haired man immediately looked over to the silver-grey haired man. Both of their faces became a mixture of seriousness and concern.

"Um, is there something wrong?" I ask.

"It's going to get terribly wrong," the blond haired man took out his pocket watch, "in three, two…one."

I heard a scream pierce through my right ear. I turn to my right to see the crown running towards us. Another scream came from the left and the crowd from that area was running towards us.

"What in the world?" I say out loud, looking at the blond man for an answer.

How did he know this was going to happen? Was he a magic user too?

"Can you fight?" he asked.

I gave him a confusing look. Fight? What is happening right now?

"If you can, take down the group of bandits on the right side," he pointed to the right, then looked back at the silver-grey haired man, "Merlin, get the group on the left."

Merlin? Isn't that Arthur's aide? But doesn't that mean the blond haired man is Arthur?

"I'm assuming you'll get the crowd Arthur?" silver-grey— Merlin asked.

Blond hair—King Arthur nods.

Merlin looks over at me then sighs, "Maybe before that you should fix that girl's shock."

Did I really look like I was in shock? Was my mouth gaping open? Maybe my face showed both my confusion and shock.

King Arthur turns towards me and taps my shoulder, "Sorry about that, late introduction, he's Merlin, I'm Arthur."

How is he so happy-happy-smile like in a situation like this? That introduction, no person should feel that much composure when there is mass chaos, when his people are in mass chaos.

Rather than ask why in the world he was acting like he was, different words escaped out of my mouth, "The king correct?"

"Yep." He smiled widely.

What was I saying? Why did he answer so lightly? What have I gotten myself into? Camelot is one weird place.

3: A Twist
A Twist

"So, can you fight?" King Arthur asks again.

I nod in response, faster than I answered him earlier; finally I was out of shock.

"Good." King Arthur smiled, "Whenever you get done, this is our rendezvous point, alright?"

Merlin and I nod and we all went our own ways.

I ran to the place where the first scream happened. Well more like I tried since the people in the marketplace were running all around and I was snaking through the crowd.

"Ha! Look at all these ants running!" I heard a man's voice.

A roaring laughter came right after the voice. I was close to the group of bandits and by the sound of it there's at least seven of them. As I try to snake through the last bit of the crowd I was pushed by someone by the back, and fell face first on the ground.

"Well look what we have here." Another man's voice said.

I look up to see the bandits in all black looking down upon me with a sinister smile. I shuffle to get up on my feet and stand my ground just in case the bandits starts to attack.

Ten, I count the number of bandits in the group. All men, some were built, some were on the lean side, but all of them were taller than me, five feet ten perhaps? They were all at least four inches taller than me.

"Now what's a farm girl doing here?" the man in the middle laughed.

He had the same voice as the voice I heard when I was heading over here. Standing in the middle, everyone behind him, the leader of the whole group of bandits or only this group of people?

"I'm not a farm girl," I say sternly, "I'm here to stop all of you."

The bandits look at each other like I was joking around and they all burst out in laughter.

"You've got to be kidding me kid!" one of the bandits laughed out.

I roll my eyes, they won't be taking me seriously anytime soon. I conjure up my sword and with one swift movement, I stabbed the bandit on the far left of me at the thigh.

The bandit screamed out in pain. I felt the nine pairs of eyes piercing me from behind.

I turn my head and glare at my right, slowly pulling out my sword from his thigh. The bandit fell to the ground and held his thigh, still crying out in pain.

"I'm not joking around." I said.

The stabbed bandit kept screaming out in pain was annoying me. I point the tip of my sword at the man's neck, he immediately stopped screaming.

"Shut your mouth," I glare down at him.

The bandit furiously nodded. I moved my sword away from his neck and took in a deep breath. Finally, no loud sound is piercing through my ear.

"W-w-what the hell a-a-are you?" I heard a bandit stutter, his voice wavering.

I turn back to the right where the nine bandits were; almost all of them were shaking in fear, other than the leader man, who seemed slightly wavered but not scared.

I notice my view was less obstructed. I look around to see that crowd of people running away were gone. Explains why it felt quieter after I shut the screaming guy up.

"Just because you move faster doesn't mean you can scare all of us." The leader man said, cracking his knuckles.

Move faster? Did I just do that again? I sigh to myself, I needed to tone down the speed, humans can't imitate the speed us faerie knights are able to achieve during fights. No matter how long I live with the humans, I'll always forget about this.

"Oh really?" I fully turn my body towards him, my feet placed at shoulder width, I point my sword right at him, "Let's see about that."

I gave him a hand gesture to come attack me. He pulled out his sword and yelled as he ran towards me. I saw him smile, he thinks he'll get me, but I move my sword in front of me at the last minute, the sound of metal clashing echoed throughout the now empty marketplace.

His face in shock, I saw him mouth the words, "How."

I smile as slowly pushed his sword back towards him, "Is that all you got?"

His face now full of anger clenched his teeth. He moved his sword away first and swung it so it'll cut my side.

I don't know why this man even tries when he knows I'm obviously faster than him. I swung my sword at his sword close to the hilt so the sword will fly out of his hands from the difference in speed of his swing and my swing.

Our swords hit and just as I planned, his sword flew out of his hand. As I saw him turn to see where his sword goes, I kicked him right in the abdomen, strong enough to send him flying right into a booth. He hits the wooden pole of the booth, breaking it, and flops down with the booth falling down with him.

Ah wait. Am I allowed to wreck things during a fight?

Back when the faerie knights fought enemies we are always told not to break anything around us because it might cause harm to other uninvolved people in the fight and it would take a long time to remake if the damage is large.

I should apologize, but before that I should do something with the other bandits.

I look over to where the remaining eight bandits were. The men were all on the ground shaking in fear.

Am I allowed to leave these men like this? King Arthur did tell me to stop the bandits and they don't seem to even want to move by the looks of it. One last scare to keep them in place should do the trick.

I glare down at the bandits, "You move even a tiny bit from that spot, I'm going to come running straight here, faster than I took down your leader, got it?"

All of them furiously nods.

I turn my back on them and start to walk back towards the rendezvous spot King Arthur stated.

Wait.

I stopped walking. Why was I going back to the rendezvous spot? I didn't need to follow his orders technically, I'm just here because I came to this town as a traveler.

I examine the fight Merlin was in, he was still going on fighting the bandits. Then I'll just take my leave right now. Nobody would notice my absence.

"You did quite a job there."

King Arthur appears out of thin air right in front of me, examining the bandits who were shaking in fear.

"Oh, um, thanks." I said.

King Arthur was obviously not there when I was going to take my leave. How did he appear in front of me all of a sudden? Did he know I was going to act like I was not involved in the incident?

He turns his head towards me and looks at me confused, "I thought I gave a good description of where the rendezvous spot was. Did I not?"

I tilt my head, "Really? Maybe you did, I tend to have bad memory of where certain places are."

"Well good thing I came right in time," King Arthur said, "You could've walked a completely different direction from the rendezvous point."

King Arthur starts walking back to the rendezvous point. I slowly follow behind him, hoping I could slip out without him noticing. An alleyway was on the left of me, now's my chance. I turn my body towards the alleyway and took one step when I saw Arthur turn around.

"Is something there?" King Arthur tilts his head.

This guy has to have some type of magic to sense I was going to take this alleyway, no way that a normal human can sense that. There's no way I can get away from his grasp.

I act like I thought I saw something, "I thought so, but there's nobody there so I'm probably wrong."

"Hm," he crossed his arms looking down, "I'm pretty sure that all bandits are in this general vicinity, but let's our guard up."

I nod in response.

I still kept my distance as we walked back, I didn't know what kind of trick King Arthur is going to pull out next and I didn't want a first hand experience of it.

Merlin was already at the rendezvous point leaning against the pole of a booth.

"What are we going to do with them?" Merlin points with his thumb at the bandits whom were all knocked out..

King Arthur shrugged, "Maybe the ones cowering over there will carry them to prison, guards are already coming there way so."

"Then let's go back." Merlin sighed, "I don't want to deal with another group of idiots."

"Sounds good to me," King Arthur shrugs again and pushes my back to get me walking.

Merlin notices King Arthur's action.

"Why is she coming with us?" Merlin gave me a judging look.

"I want her as an aide." King Arthur answers nonchalantly.

"What?" both Merlin and I looked at King Arthur like he was crazy.

4: What?
What?

"There must be some kind of mistake." I shake my head, "Why would you choose me out of all people?"

I heard Merlin sigh really loudly, "Arthur, you just met her only twenty minutes ago, you don't even know her name, you don't know anything about her and you're asking right here and right now to come with us, mere strangers, to some place she's never been, please tell me you're joking."

Merlin's head was in his hand, facing down. He looked absolutely done with King Arthur.

"Oh right!" King Arthur's face lightened up even more and turns to me, smiling, "What's you're name? Oh and how old are you? Oh also, we're you planning to stay here for awhile? Please tell me it's a yes to the last question!"

My jaw drops. This king is the most carefree person I have ever met, he's too carefree. I saw Merlin cross his arms and sigh excessively, I feel really sorry for you Merlin for dealing with him.

King Arthur kept smiling, waiting for an answer. I sigh, he is full of surprises, he appears in front of me out of nowhere, drags me into this mess, asks me to become his aide, and he is the king of this kingdom, not to mention he was able to tell when I was about to leave from the scene.

I suddenly felt a chill down my spine, a gut feeling I shouldn't trust him. Well of course I shouldn't trust complete strangers but isn't this an offer for free shelter, learning things that I can't learn out here in the streets? Is it possible that they have information on what's happening back at the faerie village? Is it worth the risk to join them just for such a specific thing?

"The name's Anna." I lie, "currently nineteen and I wasn't going to stay for a long time but since you gave me this offer, I'll take it."

Merlin eyes widen, moving slightly away from me while King Arthur smile widens.

King Arthur suddenly grabs my wrist, "Then let's go! Merlin if you don't mind."

"Arthur, I'm going to ask you again, please tell me you're joking." Merlin said.

King Arthur rolls his eyes, "Do I look like I'm joking, obviously not, now c'mon let's go."

Merlin sighs for the millionth time and snaps his fingers.

"Uh… what are we—"

In a split second the scenery around me started to become hazy, a mix from the brown, grey colored scenery slowly brightened, becoming white. The ground below me evened out, the sun that shined brightly, dimmed, we were indoors? The view finally became clear, we indeed were inside, a plain white large room, the ground was some kind of stone, marble perhaps? There were three large windows on the left and right side of me. Where were we?

"Welcome to the Castle of Camelot!" Arthur spread his arms out, his hand still holding my wrist, flinging my arm out with his movement.

"Can you let go of my hand?" I ask.

Arthur looks at my arm, "Oh, my apologies." He let's go of my arm.

"Thank you, Ar- King Arthur." I corrected myself.

"Arthur is fine," he waved off, "I'm not into the formal title thing anyways."

He sure does act like he doesn't care about formal titles.

"Anyways, I need to show you around this castle, but before that, you should get clothes appropriate inside of the castle." Arthur grabs my arm again, "Merlin make sure all those bandits are at the cell when they get here!"

Arthur proceeds to pull me by the arm, walking somewhere in the castle.

"Why don't you yourself make sure all the bandits are arrested?" I ask.

"I could but Merlin could do that," Arthur answers immediately, "besides, you have a ton to remember now that you're part of the crew."

"The what?" I said.

"The crew," Arthur said, "now c'mon, we need to get you proper clothes."

"Wait why are—"

I was jerked to the left as Arthur made a turn in the hallway.

5: The Other Side
The Other Side

Arthur jerked me inside of a room where a bunch of maids, at least twenty of them, were standing in a straight line, how did they know Arthur was coming over to this room?

"If you all are able to, please," Arthur radiantly smiled, "find something that isn't this ragged mess."

Ragged mess? I looked down at myself; my face slightly contorted. He was right, my clothes that I got a couple of towns ago did look like a ragged mess, my used to be white top was a light brown, with tears at the ends, my pants completely damaged, holes everywhere, and don't get me started on the shoes. I began to question how in the world I was able to get through that whole marketplace without judging eyes. Or maybe there were eyes on me, I just hadn't noticed.

"Yes your Majesty." All the maids answered.

In a split second all the maids came charging towards me and pulled me in one direction one second, and another direction another second, I had absolutely no idea what was happening, I was just a piece of garbage caught in a horribly huge hurricane.

What are they doing to me?

I look towards where Arthur was to get an explanation from him but where he stood was now just occupied by air.

Where did he go?

"Stop moving!" one of the maids exclaimed.

And I was jerked to somewhere in the room.

I sigh out in relief. After that whole storm, I ended up in washed out red top, short sleeves that ended above the elbow, the length of the top went down a quarter of my thigh, with a black belt around slightly above my waist, with black pants, a pair of brown boots, and for some reason a pair of baby yellow arm warmers. My hair was neatly combed, all of my jagged nails cut in a round shape, and the layer of filth on my skin was painfully scrubbed off with a good bath. At least I got something good out of this.

"Now King Arthur is waiting for you outside." One maid pushed my back.

I find myself stumbling out of the door back out into the hallway.

"Quite an exit there." A familiar voice chuckles.

Arthur stood right before me, his arms crossed, his back leaning against the wall, amused at my extravagant appearance.

"Not my fault, but thank you for the clothes." I said.

He pushes himself off the wall, "No problem," he proceeds to look at me down from head to toe, "but maybe red might not be your color."

I look down at my top, "Really, I don't think—"

"Blue," Arthur cut me off, "you look like someone who looks better in blue."

As I was about to answer, fingers yank my chin up, my gaze moves up, my eyes were forcibly locked into his eyes, now no longer the bright green eyes I saw when I first met him, it was dull, dark, green color.

"You look incomplete without blue." Arthur studies my face and takes an especially good look at my eyes.

But how he was studying me wasn't like how you study a person you just met, no, he wasn't even studying a human being in front of him, he was studying a thing, a specimen, me.

I indeed had blue eyes and blue hair without my glamour but how did he know? Was my glamour not working correctly? Was he onto me?

"D-do I?" I stutter, trying to divert his attention away from whatever he was thinking.

Arthur takes another good look at my face, "It looks like it a piece of who you were and now was forcefully taken out or," Arthur slowly leans into my ear, "you're just hiding that certain piece of you."

I tense up. Each word came with a breath that hit my ear in uncomfortable ways, his voice was like a growl from a tiger, scaring off a rival tiger away from its freshly hunted food, low and long. He's onto me, he knows who I am.

But how did he figure out? I didn't exhibit any signs of non-human in front of him. I indeed had blue eyes and blue hair without my glamour but how did he know? Was my glamour not working correctly? Did my glamour wear off at the fight at the marketplace? But he only appeared when I was about to leave.

I realized a grave mistake; I overlooked a completely valid possibility. Maybe, just maybe, Arthur might've seen me moving faster than a human, a speed only achievable if one was not human. He has to have seen it, how else would he had made such a conclusion? A familiar chill went down my spine as my heart rate increased in fear. I couldn't let him know how I felt now; I needed to stay calm no matter what happens.

I see from the corner of my eye, Arthur's head was moving away from me, slowly. Even more fear boiled inside of me, in fear he was about to call me out, in fear he will look at me like I was something other than human, a monster, or even worse, something lower than a monster.

"Just kidding!" Arthur hopped back a couple of steps.

I blink. Did I hear that right?

"Are you okay?" Arthur cocked his head to the left, "Why are you so tensed up?"

I snap out of the state of fear and shook my head, "Oh don't worry about me, I just, zoned out."

"Really?" he looks at me straight in the eyes, his eyes back to its normal bright green color, "Well if you feel bad or anything just speak up."

"Oh, ok." I nod.

"Now," Arthur immediately grabs my wrist, "on with a tour!"

Arthur pulls me to all of these different places in the castle but the entire place he showed me and the little anecdotal things with the certain place just slipped right past me. The event earlier was still haunting me. Why did Arthur act like nothing has happened? Was it just a scare? Was it his usual childish pranks? It sounded impossible; he had that same vibe of darkness I felt when I fought off all of those bandits. But was his words just a bluff? Maybe he knew I wasn't human but didn't suspect I was a faerie. Either way that would be really bad, I'm not human in his eyes.

"And that's the tour!" Arthur ended enthusiastically.

I smile, "Thank you for personally giving me a tour of the castle Arthur."

"No problem, now that we're done here," he looks out a window, the sun was setting, "we should head to dinner, where we can sit down and actually get to know more of you." Arthur was smiling his usual radiant smile.

And I thought I was done with all the dangerous situations today.

6: An Abnormal Supper
An Abnormal Supper

The dinner table was pretty quiet, surprisingly. Arthur hadn't brought up anything to spark a conversation. We all just ate our food.

Speaking of food, it's been too long since I've eaten real food. Its not like I've been digging around the scraps of food in town, it's just that all the food I've eaten until this point was just snacks, some bread here, some overripe fruit there, occasional vegetables and never meat.

Now having all this in front of me, I don't know if I want to stare at the beautiful food in awe or devour it all down.

"So where are you originally from Anna?" Arthur asked, "You must be brave for nineteen year old to travel all by herself, how did your parents approve of this?"

I spoke too soon, he actually started to talk.

I swallowed the food in my mouth, what was I going to say? I had to make up something fast, should I put some true facts too? "Um…actually I don't have parents." My mouth ran.

Okay I guess I could add some truth in.

I saw Merlin shift in his seat but his facial expression was still the same. Why did he react to that?

"Oh I'm sorry but can I ask what happened to your parents?" Arthur asked.

"Ah, well, I can't remember much about my birth parents," I explain, "I know they were part of my life for awhile but as soon as I knew it I was with a different adult."

"I see." Arthur trailed off.

Silence came between us again. Let's hope we keep it this way.

"Have you heard of pixies before Morgana?" Arthur struck up a conversation again.

I really need to stop assuming things when Arthur is in the equation.

I nod slowly, "Yes why?" What was his reason in asking about pixies?

"Just making sure because I didn't want to have you scared if they appear sometime today." King Arthur answered nonchalantly.

"What?" I was shocked that he seemed to be calm at the fact.

Pixies aren't something you can stay calm about, these people, these creatures, are one hell of a thing to go against. Humans think they're just a counterpart of faeries, more sinister, prankster like, smaller in size, when they actually are the complete opposite of their description.

Pixies, to me, are literal monsters, they can get as large as a cottage and the smallest pixies are about seven feet tall, so no matter what, they are larger than the average human being and most magical creatures. The worst part is, they are all male. They are extremely muscular and because of that, the amount of power cannot be countered without some type of magic. Luckily, they only induce physical attacks so when us faerie knights went in to attack pixies, we all use elemental based attacks.

"Pixies have been targeting this castle for awhile." Merlin added.

"Makes sense," I lean back on the chair, "the pixies must have something that they hate here, and they wouldn't attack just because."

For a second Arthur's eyes glinted, "Explain."

A chill went down my spine, the same feeling I had when I first met Arthur back at the marketplace. I felt like Arthur was giving off this horrible vibe, a vibe I felt from power hungry men. Greed, that's what I was feeling.

I hesitated in answering but this information was basic, nothing different to question my knowledge of it, it shouldn't trigger off this other side of Arthur, maybe I should sit straight, to act like I'm not giving what to me, is obvious facts, "As barbaric as the pixies are, they don't target something without reason, they attack something because they hate it."

"What do we have that they would hate? Magic?" Merlin scoffed.

I internally sighed, as much as Merlin is annoying, he does know quite a lot of things but apparently he doesn't know anything about pixies.

"Exactly, pixies don't have magic, so they would try to eradicate anything with magic," I looked at Merlin, "and I believe you, Merlin, have magic."

Rather than being surprised, Merlin's gaze immediately went to King Arthur.

"What? You're the one with magic." King Arthur blinked

King Arthur's dark vibe disappeared in an instant. What was up with that? At least he isn't looking at me like he's judging me.

But why was Merlin looking at Arthur?

Merlin's gaze turned to a glare, "You counter magic Arthur."

"Well I'm sorry that I can counter magic sometimes." Arthur said.

Counter magic? Impossible.

"You can counter magic?" I almost yelled out.

What was it with me blurting out unnecessary words today?

"Yeah, it happens, no idea why." Arthur kept his gaze on Merlin.

Merlin kept glaring at King Arthur for another few seconds until he sighed and looked away, taking another bite of his food. Arthur then smiled at Merlin.

I kept looking back at forth at the two. They have a large amount of trust to take actions like one is glaring at the other who is smiling.

Arthur was a very happy go lucky person with the occasional depth within that I can't quite see what kind of affect it can get on me if I mess with him too much. Should avoid him when he has that dark vibe.

Merlin on the other hand, he's just a wad of negativity, closed off from me, assuming it's from my addition into his duo with King Arthur.

Arthur realized how I kept looking back and forth and smiled at me.

But the smile he gave me was different from the smile he gave from Merlin, only slightly though. It was like he had some trust in me but it was judging me, just like when he asked about the pixies.

And now that I learn he can counter magic, the same phrase just kept running in my head.

I cannot trust this guy at all.
