Chapter 1
My name's Kyle, and currently I'm sitting in the office at school. I got in trouble for another fight. The kid totally deserved it too; it's not my fault I caught him cheating on his girlfriend (my twin sister). Granted I could have told my sister instead but what's the fun in that? If I did that he would have gotten slapped instead of black eyes and bruised kidneys. I love kidney shots, they cause so much pain. I smiled at the memory of the pain I caused that cheating jerk.
"I don't know why you're smiling Kyle. They said they could expel you for this." My sister's voice cracked. I looked over to her and saw her tear streaked face and red puffy eyes. She had been crying because of the situation. I would be surprised if she wasn't, I mean she had just found out that her boyfriend who she had been dating for almost a year had started cheating on her.
"It's going to be fine sis. Mom was talking about putting me in homeschooling anyways. Now she would just have to." I tried comforting her. "Besides he totally deserved what he got." She smiled at that. My sister was the cheerleading captain while her jerk of an ex-boyfriend was the quarterback of the football team. It was the stereotypical popular couple, and I was glad she was happy. That is until I found him kissing another girl behind the bleachers.
Remembering what I saw made me mad again. I took a deep breath and started to count. Yes, I started the anger management technique shown on TV a lot. I found that it worked, usually. My mother walked in the door just then. I could feel the anger coming off of her in waves. Oh man, the last time I felt this was when she found my dad cheating on her. He had no chance to get dressed before everything started flying towards him and his mistress. Needless to say they left in a flash, now my mother has a good paying job and two kids to look after.
There was a lot of similarities between my mother and my sister. Blond hair that rolls from their heads. Cute cheerleading nose sand chocolate colored eyes. The differences are also as apparent. My sister has full lips and freckles that dot her face. My mother on the other hand has thin lips and no freckles. My mother also wears more makeup than my sister. My sister wears only eyeliner while my mother does the whole shabang; eyeliner, eye shadow, lipstick, concealer, lip liner, etc.
Comparing myself to them one begins to wonder how I am related to them. I hate my blond hair so I dye it black with purple bangs. Instead of bright cheery clothing I wear dark skinny jeans and band T-shirts. But if you have me stand next to my sister anybody could tell that we are twins.
"Principal's office, now." My mother said with a glare. I knew I was going to get chewed out for this so bad. When we got into the principal office there was my sister ex-boyfriend with his black eyes forming. This put a small smile on my face, there wasn't anything like seeing someone you hate in pain. I quickly wiped it off because of the principal right there.
"Son, this is the third fight you have gotten yourself into. You're lucky we are only suspending you." The principal told me.
"Sir, before anything else I would like to explain why I got angry enough to beat up your son. I feel that it will be beneficial for you to know and my Mother." When it comes down to it I can be the sweetest thing. Looking over to the Ex I saw a fearful look in his eyes.
"What is it." The principal stated annoyed.
"I found him kissing someone other than my sister behind the bleachers, and it was starting to develop farther than kissing."
"That's a Lie!" the ex-boyfriend yelled, slamming his hands down on the desk and standing up. "He has never liked me dating his sister! The first time I was over there I walking in to him sharpening his knife on the couch!"
"It was dull." I shrugged
"Samuel, sit down." The principle had raised his voice some. Samuel sat down defeated.
"Kyle is this true?" My mother asked me.
"James saw it as well and even started recording the kissing before I started to yell at him."
The principle called James down and asked to see the video. It wasn't good quality but it showed everything. Even the way Samuel hit the ground after I punched him. Samuel had tried to deny it even farther but his father made him stop.
"I am disappointed in you Samuel. This is not how I raised you." Samuel father spoke with a clear disappointed tone in his voice.
The principle did not withdraw the suspension, a message that fighting still isn't tolerated. My sister and James went back to class as my mother and I left. In the car I didn't feel the waves of anger rolling off. It was still apparent that she was angry but I'm not entirely sure she was still angry at me.
"I am not happy that you hit him." She said when we got going. "But I am glad you did."
Again, tragic backstory of my mother finding her husband cheating. My mother understood what it's like to be cheated on. She was hoping we didn't have to go through that, sadly my sister did. We sat in silence for a while before I risked asking.
"Am I grounded?" I cringed slightly, not enough to notice but I could feel it.
"Yes, not as long as I had originally planned but still yes. You are grounded for two days." My suspension was for a week so I could play video games after those two days. "But during the break you're going to your grandparent's house for a month."
My grandparents? Oh man, I never liked visiting them. They don't have many electronics, but that's not the problem. The problem is they live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Their closes neighbor is quite a few miles away. They are retired and living on a plot of land with no real purpose. No animals, no garden, nothing. I'm not even sure what my grandpa does all day. Sometimes he works on a car but most of the time he is in his shed doing something or other.
It's not like I don't like my grandparents but I never enjoyed visiting them. When they visited us it was quite the party. My grandpa has a personality that lets him take jokes. He also has amazing comebacks for comments. My grandma is more quiet and caring. She smiles a lot and is caring for everybody, even the stray dog we found she cared for.
I was excited to go see my grandparents but a month at their house? I am not entirely sure what I will end up doing. I will offer with chores and things like that but for fun, I just don't know.
"When during break mom?" I asked.
"After the first week or so. They will come down and pick you up for the trip to their house." She replied.
That is good, I think. That means I will have a week to hang out with friends then leave and come back for the rest of the summer. There is only about two months of school left then vacation. By that time I will have accepted that I'm visiting my grandparents for a while.
2: chapter 2Chapter 2
"SUMMER!" James yelled on top of his lungs when the bell rang. I half expected him to burst out into song about how great summer is. Sadly he didn't.
"Yes, it is summer James." I told him. "What should we do to celebrate my one week of freedom before going to my grandparents?"
"Let's throw a party!"
"Yeah, let's do that." I said sarcastically. "When, where, with who, and with what?"
"Don't worry I got this."
By this time we were outside and walking to the gas station around the corner. James is pretty tall so I had a somewhat hard time keeping up with him. It wasn't like I had to sprint or anything, I am five foot eleven while James is almost six five. The hold reason I made friends with James is because he dresses so weird. Instead of the regular blue jeans and T-shirts he wears colored stuff, not like red jeans with a purple shirt I mean like purple, blue, and red patches sewn onto a set of black pants. His outfit right now is just a black T-shirt that was slightly tight on him sewn together with red thread, his pant are the same as well. When I first saw him he was wearing the exact same thing. It reminded me of Frankenstein's monster. We became friends after I commented on his shirt.
"Hey, you still here?" James questioned.
"What? Oh, yeah. I'm just thinking about things." I replied.
"Is it my stunning good looks?" He joked
"Please. A donkey looks better than you do."
"At least I don't look like its butt like you." We both chuckled.
"Come on lets go have some fun." James said before he took off running.
James and I hung out a lot in that week. My parents came to pick me up on the next Friday. The trip there was uneventful to say the least. I saw a car crash but it was getting cleaned up when we drove by. My grandparents asked me about my life and how school was. I told them that they were both boring.
"Oh and by the way Kyle." My grandpa started. "Don't go into the shed out back. I have a lot of tools lying around and I don't want anything messed with."
"What don't want me to get hurt?" I said jokingly. My grandpa laughed at that.
"You forget who always sends you those weapons you practice with."
That is true. My grandparents always send me a practice weapon to familiarize myself with before sending a weapon. Just by how the practice stick looks I know what I am going to end up with the next year. Even better, my grandpa brings his own practice weapon and spars me to see if I'm ready yet. So far the only weapon I have beat him with is a spear.
"I just have organized chaos out there and everything is exactly how I want it to be. So don't go out there. I don't want you messing it up."
At this time we pulled up to their house. We unloaded everything and set up the room I was staying in. Thus began my month long stay at my grandparents' house. Dinners were great, breakfasts not so great but still good, Lunches you fended for yourself. Every day was boring. I found myself outside a lot and glancing at my grandfathers shed. His warning was enough to keep me out for a while.
Once you have been told not to do something, it makes wanting to do it more propionate. You want to do it more than if you weren't told to. What made it even worse is my grandfather would never tell me what he was doing in there. The shack wasn't big enough to work on a car. It was a measly five feet by ten feet on the outside, wasn't sure about the inside. Eventually curiosity got the better of me. I just had to find out what was inside.
I decided to wait till night to go sneak a peek. My grandparents went to bed and were snoring within minutes (irrelevant fact: my grandmother has a manlier snore than my grandfather). At this time I located a flashlight and snuck out the window of my temporary room. The hard part was sneaking by my grandparent's window. I wasn't sure how lightly they slept.
I finally got to the shack a while later. It looked so eerie at night that I almost turned back. Especially because every horror movie I ever watched suddenly screamed into my mind. My hand was only a few inches from the doorknob. I took a deep breath and silently prayed my grandparents weren't killers. Slowly I eased open the door.
Inside was the most horrific thing I could possibly think of… Absolute Terror filled me. What the heck was my grandfather doing with an empty shack? There wasn't anything in there. Not even some dust. What the heck is going on here?
I was about to go back to the house when a glint caught my eye. I shined my flashlight on the floor near the back of the room. There in the corner was something shiny. I glanced back to the house to make sure nobody was around and went inside to look. Upon inspection it was a handle. Looking at the floor I could see the faintest outline of a trap door. Maybe I shouldn't look. I thought to myself. Maybe it's a door to an underground base that my grandfather works as a spy in. A voice in my head thought.
"Please, if anything it's a door to a murderer's funhouse." I whispered out loud. Whelp, I talked myself into it. I'm going to find out if I die trying. Nothing will stop me. So I opened the trap door and climbed down the ladder there.
After a while of going down I began to wonder how deep this hole is. Even farther after that I began wondering how my grandfather did this every day. Finally I hit the bottom and shone my light around the area I was in. All I saw was a tunnel that went about ten feet then ended in a door. Walking to the door my conscious began speaking to me again. Maybe this isn't a good idea. It said. We came this far, might as well continue. With that it went quite in my mind.
I reached the door and opened it. Looking inside there wasn't much to see except a metal cylinder about the size of a person and wires leading to a dead computer. I took a steep inside the room. The lights turned on and the computer woke up. This I have to say scared me. It was unexpected and I let out a little yelp, so sue me. Anyways, I walked inside the room to look at the strange contraption.
Kyle's Grandfathers Point of view
Five minutes ago
I awoke to an alarm booming in my head. Crap, someone entered my lab! There are many people looking to take my research and it isn't the first time they found it. But something didn't feel right about this time, something was off. Even if it feels off nobody can know what I am researching. It was just too dangerous. It took a minute to sprint from my room to the shed, three to get down the ladder and two more to get to the room. A total of six minutes to get down to the lab. The alarm goes off when they touch the ground after the ladder. Walking it takes five minutes to get to the door.
I burst into my lab. Looking around I see Kyle in there examining the control panel next to the door of the machine. He spun around too fast and slipped on a pipe I had laying on the ground.
"Kyle. No!" I yelled, but it was too late. He fell into the machine and a bright light shone then he was gone. My wife burst in after me.
"What is it? What is the matter?" She asked.
I had no time to answer my wife I had to bring Kyle back from where ever he disappeared to.

I will update as soon as I get the chapters written, which will be a week at the latest from the last one unless something happens that I am unable to.
This story I am writing to improve my skills as a writer so if you see or think of something to improve please give me a review to tell me, I'm happy for any review.

3: Chapter 3Chapter 3
I woke up in a cave. I 'm not sure what kind of cave though. My eyes are not adjusted to the dark yet. I felt around me. The stones were flat and smooth. Everything is kind of chilly, the air and the rocks. Wait. What am I doing here? It took me a moment to remember what had happened. When I remembered it just brought a lot of questions that I wanted answered. Like, what was that machine and who my grandpa is. The question that formed after these was the one I chose to focus on. How do I get out?
My eyes had adjusted a little to the darkness. I looked around. The cave I was in was really a tunnel. I began to wonder which side to take. If anything I will probably just end up hitting the end of the tunnel and have to turn back. I began walking.
Walking took a long time. I ended up resting a few time because it took so long. Finally I reached the end of the tunnel, by this time my eyes were adjusted to the dark pretty well so the light was too bright. I ended up just waiting somewhat far from the cave entrance for my eyes to adjust and slowly crept closer till I could handle it.
Stepping outside I sneezed. When I had gotten up from my sneeze I found myself in a forest. I did a 360 to see where I was and tripped. The trip saved me from the arrow that had impaled the tree right beside me. I jumped back into the cave I had come from for some cover. I could hear yelling in the distance.
"You idiot, you missed him!" Voice one bellowed.
"No he dodged my arrow! He is a skilled warrior!" Replied voice two
"He's just a thief." Voice one snarled. A thief? They have me mixed up with somebody else in these woods. I can't go out and tell them because they will end up shooting me. Just my luck. I had to wait for them to either get a clear shot into the cave at me or get close enough to jump out and hope I'm not shot. The two guys began to argue during this time about the thief.
A figure swung into the cave from above. Crap I'm going to die. I thought to myself. The figure started to laugh.
"Man, I can't believe they are arguing over me. It makes a girl feel special." She had a lovely voice. One you expect from a singer or something.
"The special girl needs to stop getting random people shot at." I told her to hopefully scare her. It worked. She jumped on me and pressed a knife to my throat. I got my foot under her and grabbed her wrist, pushing with my foot and twisting her wrist I flipped her over and made her drop the knife. I scrabbled onto my feet ready to defend myself again but somehow she had disappeared.
I felt a pain in my kidney. Spinning around I grabbed the girl behind me. I spun her arm around and flipped her over. I pinned her down and held her arms.
"Calm down now." I growled.
"No." She spat.
"Well I could easily yell for those hunters out there to come and get you. Will that help out with your attitude?" She just smiled and then she was gone from under me. I stood up and backed up. Placing my back to the wall I looked around for her.
"Smart idea, backing up to the wall while fighting a teleporter. You fight us a lot." She called from down the cave a ways.
"Actually, I've never fought one before, or for that matter even seen someone who was able to aside from TV." I called back.
"What do you live under a rock." She was in a new place, closer than before. I heard her picking up the knife. "Sure we aren't that popular but we still exist."
I slid down the wall fast expecting her to slice where I was standing, nothing happened. I crept slowly to the cave entrance to hopefully slide out to safety.
"There he is!" The men from outside yelled. Nope, no safety out there.
"Alright can you take me out of here please?" I asked the girl.
"Why should I? You attacked me." She answered.
"I'm sorry for throwing off of me. It was a bad choice to let you slice my throat." I said sarcastically. "Oh, and I'm sorry for scaring you." The last part wasn't as sarcastic due to the fact that I really needed to leave.
"I guess that will have to do for now." She suddenly grabbed my arm. "Hold your breath or lose all your air."
Teleporting is so thrilling. It felt like going down a really fast waterslide, but a lot faster. The surroundings zoom past you insanely fast making them look like blurs of color. The only downside to it is I forgot to hold my breath.
The teleport stopped and I immediately dropped and tried to get air into my lungs again. The wind was knocked out of me so it took a while to exhale. When I finally got air into my lungs I looked to the girl.
"That was awesome!" I exclaimed. "Holy crap, have you been able to do that sense you were born or did you had to get taught? Did you see that? One moment we were in the cave and next we were…" I trailed off for a moment and looked around. "Were are we?"
"Just outside the Mar Woods. Go back about fifteen feet and your back into them." She panted.
"My name is Kyle." I said sticking out my hand for her. She grabbed it.
"Violet."
"So why did they want to catch you?" I actually got a good look at her now. She wasn't all that tall and she was slim. She had dark wavy hair and sun kissed skin. She wore a brown cloak and baggy clothing. What confused me is that the men in the woods said "he". I guess from the look of her clothing she did look like a boy but her face said otherwise.
"I stole some food for my friends." She glanced up at me. "What on earth are you wearing?" I glanced down at my jeans and t-shirt. I slept in my clothing last night because of the adventure to the shack I had planned.
"Ummmm, jeans and a T-shirt." I answered.
"I have never seen that material before. Is it new?"
"No not really."
"Cool. I will have to look for some."
"So where are we going to go?"
"Well I am going home. You are on your own." With that she took off walking away from me.
"Wait!" I ran up to her. "Look I have no idea where I am or even if I am on the same planet anymore. Last thing I remember is going into my grandpa's shack and finding some weird machine. I fell into it and now I am here."
"So go find a town and ask around for him."
"Or you could just tell me what planet I am on and how you have magical abilities."
"Ummmm. No." She teleported again. I looked around and found her about ten feet away swaying. I ran to her and grabbed her arms. She pushed me away and yelled. "I am fine."
"No you are not. You teleported not only yourself out of the woods but me as well and you tired. I will take you to your house and then I will go to the closest town, okay?"
"Fine. Just walk that way over the hill. You will find it." With that I put her ram around my shoulder and started to walk.
4: Chapter 4~~Chapter 4
The trip to Violets house was uneventful, except the fact that when I began to see the house I had to put Violet onto my back (much to her displeasure) and she fell asleep. The house was a two story house made of wood with a wraparound porch. Nothing really stood out about it. It stood on a blank space of grass with a playground in the back yard.
When I reached her house I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. Do I knock on the door or just walk in. While I was contemplating this a little girl ran around the corner of the house and saw me.
"Hello. Can I help you?" She asked sweetly. She was only about nine years old.
"Actually, you can. You see I have Violet here with me and she's kind of sleeping on my back. Where should I lay her down?"
"Oh! Violet is back!" The little girl exclaimed.
"Shhhhhhhh." I put my finger up to my mouth, "She's asleep."
"Oh, sorry." She whispered. "Follow me." She walking inside and lead me to a room upstairs. Carefully I sat on the side of the bed and laid Violet down. I walked out of the room and looked to the little girl.
"Could you help me out with something?" I asked crouching to her level.
"It depends." She replied
"On what?"
"I don't know." I smiled at her answer.
"I just need to know some things. It seems that I lost my memory and don't know where, when and what planet I am on." I didn't want to start spouting things like being an alien and stuff to her.
"That's easy." She said. "But you have to make me some food in order for me to tell you."
"We will talk as I cook. Okay?"
She led me to the kitchen and told me that she wanted a sandwich. When I asked what kind and where the stuff is she pointed out the jars to make it with. I started making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
"So what planet is this again?" I asked while scooping out some peanut butter.
"It's Earth silly." She replied. I spread the peanut butter onto a piece of bread.
"Right. Sorry I forgot. What year is it?" Another child ran into the room.
"Who is that?" He asked the little girl. He was around the same age and looked the same as the little girl. They both had brown hair and brown eyes. The must be twins.
"He brought Violet home." She answered him.
"Violets home?" He seemed excited about that.
"Yes she is, but she is sleeping so let's be quite, okay. Are you hungry?" I spoke out to him. He nodded his head so I pulled out some more bread from the bread box. "I'm going to make myself one too is that okay?" They both said yes so I started making us all a sandwich.
"My name is Kyle. What's yours?"
"I'm John and that's my twin Sara."
"Hello. So John what year is it?"
"4156. Why do you ask Kyle?"
Sara answered for me. "Kyle hit his head and now he doesn't remember anything."
"Then how does he know his name and how to make a sandwich?" John asked.
"I remember certain things just not everything." I lied. "What has happened in the last two thousand years?"
"I don't know." Sara replied
"Same with me." John answered as well.
"Okay. Here are you sandwiches." I passed them out and took a bite of mine. "Is this home mad peanut butter?"
"Nope, Violet buys us food."
"Oh Okay." I began to think about Violets powers. "Do you to have magic?"
"No!" They both said, appalled.
"Sorry. It's just that…"
"Magic is only for bad guys. Only thieves and crooks have magic." Sara interrupted me.
"Yeah, no good guy would use magic." John clarified.
"Sorry I forgot." I didn't want them to find out about Violets power anymore. Especially not if they think that all people with magic are evil. I don't want to force Violet to run away nor have these kids hate her. The front door opened up. The two kids ran to the front door yelling "Mommy, Daddy!" all the way there.
"Hey kids." A deep voice said.
"Hello John and Sara." A lighter voice called.
"Is Violet home yet?" The father asked the two young ones.
"Yes she is. She was brought home by some nice boy. His name is Kyle and he made us sandwiches." Sara told her mother and father. I decided that it was good for me to come out now. As I walked out I waved to the mother and father.
The mother had caramel colored skin and long white hair that hung down to her shoulders in curls. She barely reached the husbands shoulder and looked like she could take care of herself in a fight. The father was built like a tank. He clearly did something with a lot of heavy lifting and his tan skin told of something outside. He had short black hair and wore overalls and a shirt.
"Hey. Sorry to intrude at your home. I found Violet in the woods and helped her out. I hope you don't mind." They both look skeptical of me, which I had expected but frankly I really hope they accepted me because the father could snap me like a twig.
"What was she doing in the woods?" The mother asked.
"I don't really know why." I replied.
"He lost his memory mommy." Sara told her mother. The mother looked at me slightly worried.
"What were you doing in the woods?" She asked
"I woke up in a cave there. I'll tell you the full story later. Is that okay?" The mother looked at the father then back at me.
"Stay for dinner." She told me. "Herald, go wake up Violet."
Before going to wake up Violet, Herald walked towards me.
"My names Herald." He stuck out his hand. I took it and retold him my name. "That's my wife Beth."
"Hello." Beth called as she walked to the kitchen. Herald got violet up and she came downstairs still half asleep. When she saw me she stopped.
"Wasn't the deal that you were to turn around and leave?" She growled at me.
"No the deal was that after I dropped you off I was to leave for town after an unsaid amount of time." I replied exploiting the loophole. "Besides, I don't even know which way the town is."
Beth spoke out next. "Violet, what where you doing in the forest?" Violet ignored her and continued into me.
"What all did you tell them." She growled at me. It was clear that the secret of the teleporting was to be kept a secret.
"Just that I woke up in a cave and saw you stumbling through the woods so I kindly helped you back home." Herald and Beth were watching us argue back and forth so they finally put an end to it.
"Violet!" Herald commanded. "Tell us why you were in the woods now!" Violet cringed at his voice. She explained to her parents on how she had gone through the woods to get to one of the towns nearby because she thought she could get a better deal on food. She had pulled out all the food she got and set them on the table.
"And what is your story Kyle?" Beth asked.
"I'm not sure if you will believe it or not but I lied to the kids." Before they could get mad at me I spouted my story of disobeying my grandpa and ending up here. After I spewed my story they simply looked at me. Violet looked at me as well. She must have been too tired to completely understand what I had said on the trip back.
"So, you're from the future?" Violet asked.
"No, I think I'm from the past." I answered.
"And you got here because of a time machine?" Herald questioned.
"I guess I did." I replied.
"And why are you in this time then?" Beth wondered.
"It must have something to do with when I fell in the pod. My hand must have slapped in some random date and sent me here." Everybody stared at me then looked at each other. A deep rumbling came from Herald. Beth hid a smile behind her hand. Violet started chuckling to herself. Eventually they all started hooting and hollering.
I stood there in disbelief. I had expected something more like "What the real story." Or something normal like that. Instead they started laughing at me like I was a comedian. I didn't really like it.
I waited for them to finish but that took a while. When they finally finished laughing they couldn't take me seriously anymore. Herald kept calling me old man and Violet referred to me as gramps.
"Look is there anybody out there who could tell me anything at all?" I asked irritated.
"Well Old man." Herald chuckled. "Maybe your grandpa might send you a message through space and time." They all laughed again.
"Alright fine I get it. It sounds stupid. But no more stupid then magic." I exasperated.
"Magic is evil. Don't forget that." Herald growled. Magic was clearly looked down upon in this world and is not liked by anybody in this house. Violet hasn't told her parents, which doesn't surprise me based on their views. It's almost like coming out to some hardcore anti-gay parents.
"Why is magic evil? Is it because of who uses it or is it because somebody used magic for something horrible?" I asked.
"Long ago there were two brothers." Beth began. "These brothers were unlike in many ways. The older brother became king; he ruled with kindness and love and was loved by all. The younger brother was cruel and ruthless. The younger brother hated his older brother who had everything and became bitter. To become king the younger brother prayed to the god of evil, Chaos. He asked for a way to kill his brother and rule the world, Chaos agreed and granted him three gifts.
"These gifts are the gift of magic; Telepathy, Teleportation, and Telekinesis. He used these powers to over throw the kind and lay waist to all who oppose him. During his reign many woman where taken unwillingly to bear his children and these children received his powers and his evil.
"One of the younger brother's sons received no powers from his father. When the Horrible king died this child took the thrown. He began ruling with kindness and was loved by all of the land. To this day the younger brother's dependents bear his power and evil. But goodness will always prevail in the end."
During the story I avoided Violets eyes. I finally got some answers but I had even more questions than before. Like was Violet evil or could the evil trait have vanished from her? Who is the new king? How was magic granted? Was there other kinds? The list went on and on.
I voiced the biggest question on my mind, "Can one of the evil brothers descendants strive for true and right?"
"No. It's not possible. They are breed to bring evil to the world and are hunted down at all costs to stop it." Violet answered. She had a meaningful look in her eyes that said don't mention anything about me. I attempted to say "I haven't yet so why should I now" With my eyes but I don't think she got the message.
It was dark outside by now. The little ones came inside already and started getting ready for bed. I had no place to go and sleep so I kind of sat there wondering what to do. I didn't feel comfortable asking for a bed but it gets really cold at night.
"Kyle, if you need a place to sleep the couch is open for you." Beth told me.
"Thank you for your kindness." I replied to her. With that we all left for bed.
Authors note
Alright, so chapter 4 is done now. I would have had it up sooner but I was unable to use the laptop I saved the story onto for a while. So we have a background of magic and I am getting so tired of writing backstories so next chapter I am going to start the adventure. Of course the story has no real solid plot and I am totally winging it so let's see how it goes. Thanks for the reviews and sorry for the repeating chapter a while ago. I hope I fixed it. Please send a review on anything from how to make it better to what you thought.
5: Chapter 5~~Chapter 5
I woke up to the sun shining in my face and a knife to my throat. Wow my life is never boring is it? Looking at the face it was a knight. I kid you not it was a knight in armor standing above me with a knife to my throat. This time really does seem like a mix between the medieval times and modern times. Well the knight either didn't notice that I awoke to his knife being pressed to my throat or didn't care because he had no reaction to me looking at him.
"Well Sir Knight. I will be happy to answer any questions given to me just do me a favor first. Remove your knife from my throat, it kind of hurts." I asked in the nicest voice I could. Not the sarcastic nice an actual nice voice.
"He's up. Did you find another lad here?" The knight yelled. I guessed at this point that there was more than one Knight in the house. Great, they must be wondering what you are wearing. The voice in my head rang. I never understood why that voice tries to make a bad situation funny.
"No other boy the right age, just a girl." Another knight called.
"Alright, bring her. We might be able to use her as leverage." The knight above me answered. He turned to me. "Your evil reign is over lad."
So now I am being arrested by knights for something I didn't do. Great, what a lovely story to tell my future kids. Hey Kids, want to hear about the time I was arrested for no reason by knights? I snorted at that thought.
"Make a move and I will kill everyone in this house starting with the little ones." A voice from the hall told me. There was no way I was going to let them hurt John or Serra. I just met them and they are kids. I slammed the knight's hand back catching him by surprise and causing him to drop his knife. Using my foot as leverage I pushed him from off of me and jumped to my feet to look at the Knight in the hall. I felt hands grab me from behind so I jump and brought my feet into the knees of the knight that tried to grab me. They cracked and he loosened his grip enough to where I could slip his grasp.
"Move and I will slice your throat." said the knight from the hall. Hey let's give them names. Alright, Knight from the couch is Knight One, Knight from upstairs is Knight Two and the Knight in the hallway is Knight Three. Knight Three had his sword drawn and pointed at my throat. While I was skilled in a lot of weapons I didn't have any on me. I lifted up my hands in surrender.
"Sorry about fighting back. You threatened little kids and I won't stand for that. Also, hugs from behind tend to scare me." I shook my head. "Why are you arresting me Sir? I haven't done anything wrong before now."
"You are suspected of treason of the high king." Knight one answered as he arose from the ground. Knight Two finally came downstairs dragging a fighting Violet. Herald followed begging the knight to let her go.
"Ah, now everybody is here. It's time for a party!" I called sarcastically. I know that with my life on the line I shouldn't be so sassy and sarcastic but it's so much fun.
"Shut up Kyle!" Violet snapped.
"Are you the man of the house?" Knight Three asked Herald.
"Yes, I am. What is this about Sir?" Herald answered softly.
"We are just looking for a wanted criminal. Have you known this lad long?"
"No Sir."
"Did you know he is wanted by the law?"
"No Sir."
"Did you give him a place to sleep and food to eat?"
"I was only being friendly to the boy Sir. He brought home my daughter when she needed help and I wanted to return the favor."
"So unknowingly you helped a wanted criminal and gave him shelter?" Knight Two summed up.
"Herald turned to the knight holding his daughter and spoke softly and with remorse. "Yes."
"You will have to be punished but seeing as you didn't do this knowingly it will be a light punishment." Knight Three told Herald. "And we will do the punishing out of prying eyes. I thing five lashings is good enough.'
"I will take ten if I can punch him in the face for endangering my family." Herald growled in my direction.
"We will stick with five lashings and you may hit the lad, but not in the face. We don't want a sign of excessive punishment yet." Knight Three allowed. "Try for a kidney, they hurt more."
I decided to take the hit from Herald. I understood why he was mad at me. A random boy came into his house and he fed and sheltered him just to find out that the boy is a wanted criminal. I endangered his family. Wait, I didn't endanger his family. I shouldn't even be wanted I don't exist in this world. I come from a whole other time. Eh, The knights didn't know that and Herald doesn't believe it either.
Herald came up to me ready to throw the punch. Right before he did though he whispered in my ear. "Get Violet to teleport you guys out, but make sure that it looks like you did the teleporting. Got it?" Without waiting for an answer he swung a fist into my kidney. Man Herald has a lot of strength in his punches. I clutched my side in pain and Knight One led Herald out of the house.
What the heck? How does Herald know about Violets power? My mind rang with questions. I had more questions than answers and it was starting to annoy me. It didn't at this moment though. I had to roll with the punches and get Violet out of here.
Knight Three placed his sword on my chin and used it to get me off the ground. "If you would stand still please."
"Yeah, like I am going to fight back at this point." Sarcasm leaked from my voice. "I love making illogical decisions."
"Put your hands out in front of you." The Knight snarled. He clearly didn't like my sarcasm, which made it even for fun to use. I really should pick when I should and shouldn't use sarcasm. I might die.
I complied with his request and thrust my hands out in front of me. I flexed my arms to make the ropes or whatever looser. The Knight put away his sword and tied my hands with rope and made a line which he carried. I glanced over at Violet and say she was getting a rougher treatment because she was fighting it.
"Violet, don't fight. I'm sorry to drag you into this but comply and they will let you go eventually." I wanted to play the part of the wanted criminal to take suspicion off Violet. Violet looked at me and glared. Either she was mad at me or she was playing along. I was hoping the later.
"Shut up jerk. It's your fault I am here and I sure as hell don't want to talk to you." Violet glared at me. Her hands where bond and we were dragged outside. The knights got on horses and Violet and I were left to walk.
The walk was long and hard. Several time I stumbled because the knight holding my rope jerked it. Violet came up next to me. "So what's the plan?"
"Well your dad told me to teleport you away."
"But you can't teleport."
I glanced at her. "No, but you can. I will break free of these ropes and grab you. When I do get us out."
"Stop talking!" Knight Three yelled jerking my rope. I stumbled and fell. On the ground as I got up I happened to pick up a small somewhat sharp rock. It wasn't rally on purpose it just got stuck in my skin. When I pulled it out I nearly threw it down then it dawned on me. I can cut the ropes with this rock. I began working on it as secretly as I could.
The ropes began showing sign of tethering a while after that. It had been grueling and the sun crept high into the sky. I was grateful when we left to valley and into the forest. At least in the forest there was shade. We walked along a road.
My ropes finally broke away. I didn't pull them apart and the next time I stumbled I dropped the rock. I had to grab onto the rope line to keep from splitting my hands apart. Glancing at Violet I got her attention. I showed her my ropes and nodded to her, she got the message. I held up three fingers for a countdown. I threw the rope down and ran to Violet. I grabbed her arm and we teleported out.
Authors note
Chapter 5 is done and we are beginning the adventure! I'm kind of glad I got the adventure going. I would have had it starting sooner but I was stuck at how to start it. Now that it's started I'm not entirely sure where it will go. Anyway send a review if you see something that needs improving or fixing
6: Chapter 6~~Chapter 6
Again I forgot to hold my breath. It sucks having your breath sucked out of you. It leaves you gasping. Violet was kind enough to laugh at me.
"You forgot to hold your breath. Good job gramps." She giggled.
I finally got air into my system again. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I forgot to hold my breath."
"Yeah, I figured you did." Violet laughed some more.
"When you first teleported, what happened to you?" I asked.
"I went from the back door to my room. I got the breath knocked out of me and that day my dad started teaching me that magic was evil. I have hid it ever sense."
"He knows. Your father, he knows about your power." Violet looked at me in shock. "When he punched me he told me to protect you and what to do to get out. Speaking of which, were are we."
"No, back up. What do you mean he knows?" Violet was flabbergasted at the thought. "He knows about me teleporting?"
"Yes he knows about you teleporting. When he told me to take care of you he said make it look like I did the teleporting. That is all I know Violet."
"I can't believe he didn't turn me in sooner."
"Violet!"
"What?"
"Were are we?"
"Oh, right." Violet looked around us. "We're just outside the town of Pasage."
"So you have been here before?"
"Yes."
"We should probably go to a town you haven't been to. Some place unknown or new."
"Why? I know somebody here that we can get to. There is a little grove of trees we can hide in until night around here."
"Okay. Does your father know about this person?"
"No."
"Can they send a message to him?"
"They might. The trees are this way. We can also plan out our flight from the law there."
At the grove of trees Violet made a quick sketch of the area around here for me. The map didn't look anything like America either. I was beginning to wonder if this was the future and not some alternate dimension. Just what was my grandfather doing in his shack?
"Alright, is there someplace you haven't gone?" I asked Violet.
"Not close by but there is a rumor. About a safe place for those with magic, but that's a load of crap. If there was such a place in the kingdom, the knights would have found it by now." She replied.
"Not close by but there is a rumor. About a safe place for those with magic, but that's a load of crap. If there was such a place in the kingdom, the knights would have found it by now." She replied.
"Most rumors are based on the faintest specks of truth."
"The knight would have found it."
"What if it's not in the kingdom? What if it's outside the borders?"
"I guess that would explain a lot about it. Kyle, how do you suppose my dad knew about my magic and did nothing about it?"
"I don't know Violet. There could be many reasons. You could have seen you teleport and done nothing because he loves you. It could be that maybe he has magic too. Maybe you're not really his kid. I just don't know. Sorry."
"It's not your fault. It just bugs me so much."
"I have a similar situation. My grandfather had a weird shack that I wasn't allowed into and when I went inside I ended up here. I still have no idea what he does for a living."
"Maybe we can find answers together."
"Before we go into town you think we can stop by that cave? Maybe my grandpa sent something."
"I don't know where the cave is Kyle. I'm sorry."
"No, its fine. I was really just hoping for some different clothing. Pajamas aren't the best." I glanced down at my pajama pants and plain black t-shirt.
"My contact may have just the thing for you. We just have to wait."
Waiting takes forever. I fell asleep and had a lovely nap. I'm not completely sure how long I was out. When I woke up the sun was going down and Violet was asleep too. She looks cute when she's asleep. I thought to myself. I got up and went out of sight to relieve myself. When I got back the sun had crept farther down the horizon. I woke Violet up.
"Rise and shine! The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and nothing says morning like the sun leaping behind the clouds for darkness." I called as I shook Violets arm. She sat bolt upright.
"It's morning!" She panicked. "We missed our window!"
"Relax. I'm just messing with you. The sun's going down now."
"Jerk."
I laughed. "Come on. It's almost time to become ninjas and infiltrate the city."
Violet looked at me confused. "What's a ninja?"
I looked at her bewildered. "Crap, how does one explain a ninja?" I paced a little and thought about it. "Think of a ninja as a warrior who specializes in assassination and not getting caught. They usually dress in all black." Violet nodded. "Anyway, let's get going."
"This way." Violet pointed into the direction she wanted us to go. Granted we could have entered the town at any place and would have gotten there. I figured that she only anted use to enter at the closest possible place or just wanted to avoid patrols. We turned into town and started sneaking into the heart of it.
It becomes really hard to not make any noise when you're not supposed to. Several times we had to jump behind walls and stuff because a can was knocked over or a bottle was broken. After some time of playing "stay in the shadows" we reached a building that Violet said was the place. She hid me in the back and teleported. Later a figure opened the backdoor and called my name.
The figure didn't have Violets voice. It was still light but the tone was different. It was definitely a girl. I got up and walked over.
"Your Violets contact?" I asked.
"No, I am her friend. Come on, before someone sees you." She waved me inside. Inside was a small apartment. The girl waved me into the kitchen. She had grey eyes and facial tattoos. Not the hardcore facial tattoo but some small stripes on her cheeks. A small petite nose complemented her stormy grey eyes. Her eyes had bags under them. She must have been sleeping after a stressful day.
"Kyle, this is Moya. Moya, this is the old man Kyle." Violet introduced us. I rolled my eyes at being called old man.
"Why does she call you old man?" Moya asked me. I explained what had happened to me and how I got here. When I was done I looked at her expecting her to start laughing. Instead she just sighed.
"Stranger things have happened today. Could you believe that a demi-human came to my shop looking for a sword? I had to explain ten times that we only sell clothing. Ten time Violet! Ten!" Moya exclaimed.
"A demi-human came to town?" Violet asked surprised.
"Yes, he was going on about needing a sword to save his people from some monster of some kind. But that doesn't matter. What was he doing here? Does he have a death wish?" Moya wondered
"Wait hold up." I raised my hands in a slowdown motion. "What's a demi-human?"
"Right, you're from the past. They probably didn't have half man half animals." Moya said.
"Nope instead we had people who wished they existed. We called them Furies." I stopped for a moment. "What kind of demi-human was it?"
"It was a fox. At first I thought it was just some kid wearing some fox ears then they moved." Moya answered.
"That might save him then." I spoke out. I don't know why the demi-humans are discriminated against but I believed that one should never judge someone on what they are but who they are.
"Maybe I don't know." Violet joined in the conversation. "Anyways, Kyle here would like some different clothing and professional help picking them out." Moya's face brightened up considerably. She grabbed my hand and led me out of the apartment and into a clothing shop. She picked out different clothing and told me to put them on. A lot of the clothing choices were too bright for my liking.
"Could we go with darker colors maybe? I don't want to have a target on my back." I really didn't want to change my style of clothing I just wanted to adjust it to fit this time period.
"Alright I will find something." As Moya looked for something I wandered around and saw some clothing that stood out to me. I grabbed them and walked back to the changing room. Moya came back with some other clothing to try on and a backpack. Her clothing was a dark brown tunic and a pullover jacket. I put on the tunic and jacket to show her. She didn't like the jacket on me so I put on the one I picked out.
The leather button up jacket I had grabbed looked good with the tunic and the pants Moya brought were good as well. All in all I looked good. Moya brought the backpack with an extra set of clothing.
"I don't have anything to give you for payment." I told Moya.
"Don't worry I will get it somehow." She answered.
Violet came out to join us. She complemented Moya's skill in picking out clothing. We began heading back into Moya's house when there was a banging at the shop door.
7: chapter 7~~Chapter 7
I will be completely honest about what happened next, I let out a startled yelp. It started so suddenly and it scared me.
"Help! Help! Let me in!" The voice yelled through the door.
"Oh my... Violet, that's the voice of the demi-human from this morning. What should I do?" Moya panicked.
"Tell him to go away." Violet whispered back. "We don't want any more trouble than we already do."
"The store is closed. Come back tomorrow morning." Moya called.
"I will be dead in a few minutes if you don't help me! Please I'm begging you! Open up!" The demi-human called from behind the door.
"We should let him in." I whispered to Violet and Moya.
"No, he could get use killed too!" Violet exclaimed quietly
"Would you do it if he was fully human?" I countered.
Moya pushed between us. "Fine I will let him in but we had better have an escape plan."
Violet glared at me. "Listen here bucko; you don't know a lot about this world. I do. Listen to me and maybe, just maybe, we won't get killed."
"You may know a lot about this world but because I don't, I will treat everyone fairly, even if it gets me killed. And if it means saving someone else then my life is good trade." I growled back.
"If you two are down with your lovers quarrel, Could I be let in now they are around the corner!" The demi-human urgently whispered loud enough for us to hear.
"Violet, lights. Kyle, come here and grab him, don't let go even if it kills you." Moya instructed. We followed orders. When Violet killed the lights Moya opened the door, then I grabbed the kid. Pulling him inside I slid my hand over his mouth and bear hugged him.
"Shush." I whispered into his ear, at least were his ear should have been if it wasn't placed on top of his head. The Demi-human opened his mouth and licked my palm. I didn't take my hand away from his mouth. It grossed me out bur I wasn't going to let go.
"Do that again and I will throw you back outside and give them a reason to kill you." I threatened. The demi-human nodded and went still.
Outside voices could be heard calling down the street.
"Were is it?" One called.
"I don't know!" Another one yelled.
"There! It's running down the street!" A third voice rang. Yells rang out and pounding feet stormed by the shop. Slowly I let go of the demi-humans mouth and let it up. I was unsure of its gender yet. We waited for a little longer.
"It's clear." Violet called from behind the counter. She must have been the figure the mob saw running around.
"Let's keep the lights off in the shop. Moya are you okay with everybody coming back into your house?" I asked.
"For now, I guess. My parents should be coming home in a while." She replied.
I turned to the demi-human. "Don't say anything yet. Follow me." The demi-human nodded and followed me into Moya's house. Inside we Sat in the living room and looked at each other. The demi-human sat in a dark corner and didn't speak for a while. Finally the silence was broken.
"Thank you, for saving me." The demi-human said.
"What on earth did you do to get a mob after you?" Violet snapped. The demi-human winced in the shadows. I interrupted its response.
"Before that, Can we have your name and age?" Violet snapped her head in my direction. She glared at me but didn't say anything.
"My name is Walking in Leaves. I'm 14 and male." He replied nervously. "As for what I did to deserve that mob: I asked for help."
Moya asked the next question. "Help for what?"
"My family has been captured by someone called The Slave Trader. I just want to get them back. He attacked my village and took so many of us." He looked to me. "Can you help me?"
"Look as much as we want to help we have more important things to do." Violet rudely declined. "Kyle we should really find that safe place for us."
"You have magic too?" Walking in Leaves excitedly asked me.
"None of us have magic. It has been banned from the Kingdom." Moya told him. I glanced at Violet to see the disappointment on her face. Moya continued. "But it's a stupid reason to ban it. One guy messes up then suddenly everyone is punished for it."
"Alright I think it's time to go to bed." I said before Walking in Leaves said something that he shouldn't have. How did he find out about Violets Magic? I thought to myself.
"Alright but the problem is that my parents don't know about you guys and the sure won't like you guys staying here without them knowing." She pointed to Violet and I. "Walking with leaves won't be welcome here at all. A demi-human left them with bad memories."
Walking in Leaves looked bummed out about that. It must be sad to be judged based on how you look and how your people act. This must have been how African Americans must have felt.
"We can hide ourselves tonight and sleep there. The only problem is protection against the weather. It gets cold at night here right?" I asked.
"Yes it does. I have some blankets you can use. Where will you hide?" Moya curiously asked.
"Does your roof have short walls on the top?" Walking in Leaves wondered.
"I don't know. Does it matter?" Moya asked confused.
I chimed in. "Oh, I see. If the roof has some kind of wall protruding up then it will keep us out of sight from the ground and help protect us from the wind."
"Exactly."
"I'm not entirely sure if it is. My parents are going to be home in an hour or less so I suggest you find a place soon."
"I will go look." I volunteered.
"How are you going to get up there, old man?" Violet jeered with a smirk
"I will climb. Just because I'm supposedly old doesn't mean that I'm not fit." I answered with a smile of my own. Walking outside I prepared for what I was going to do. Parkour is hard to do, especially at night so instead of doing all those flips and stuff to get up a wall I just simply ran up it and grabbed onto a pipe hanging down half way. The pipe thankfully held. This time does seem like a mash up between the medieval ages and modern time. Well, the time I was born at least.
The pipe held until I got to the roof. I am so glad it didn't break. I climbed onto the roof and attempted to take a step. The roof was completely black so it was hard to see that it did, in fact, have a foot wall before hitting the top of the roof. Well, it was like thinking the second step on the stairs is the last step. Only bigger and I fell on my face.
The fall didn't hurt physically, I was just glad nobody was around to see it. I pushed myself off the roof and went back to the edge. The cold air bit at my face as I looked down. Your not afraid of heights. Don't think just jump and land safely. The voice in my mind told me. I shook my head and took a few steps back.
tack, tack. My feet pounded on the roof and I jumped over the foot tall wall. The cold wind brushed my face and the ground came up to meet me. With my legs bent I rolled down then back up. Rolling is simply a technique that takes you momentum and transfers it out instead of keeping it in one point. That one point could end up snapping.
"Nice landing." Walking in Leaves told me from the doorway.
"Thanks" I looked to his arms and saw some blankets. "Those yours or mine"?
"Mine. Yours are inside." He jestered with his head inside.
"Thanks. The roof does have about a foot high wall, go ahead and go up. Just be careful." I said as he brushed by me.
"Alright." I walked inside to see Violet talking with Moya. Violet pointed at some blankets so I grabbed them and went back outside. Bundling them up I threw them onto the roof getting a startled yip from Walking in Leaves.
"Sorry." I called up.
"It's cool." He called back.
"Hey how did you get up?"
"I climbed on the garbage bin and leaped for the top. Had to pull myself up the rest of the way. Why do you ask?"
"I'm looking for an easier way up."
"Just do what you did before."
"Nah, I don't want to risk breaking the pipe."
Walking in leaves poked his head over the ledge. "What pipe?" I pointed to the pipe not too far away.
"That one."
"But its quite a ways up. Can you jump for it?"
"No, but I can run up the wall to it."
"I don't believe you. Show me."
I shrugged and took a running start at the pipe. As my feet started up the wall I heard a bang. I tapped the pipe, hit the ground and crouched down. I glanced up the wall and saw that Walking in Leaves had crouched down. I glanced around, nothing. I listened and waited. Still nothing happened. Violet came out of Moya's house.
"Why are you crouched down?" She asked.
"Because there was a bang. I was worried that it was someone for us." I answered.
"Lets just get up on the roof. How should I get up?"
"I don't know. I used that pipe." I gestured up to the pipe above me. "Walking in Leaves used a Garbage bin to jump and pull himself up. I don't know how, does demi-humans have enhanced abilities?"
"I don't know. You know what Just distract Walking in leaves And I will get up there somehow. We should really give him a nickname."
"Agreed."
"Alright get up there."
I got up and took a few steps from the building. Repeating the trip up earlier I did make it onto the roof without falling. I looked over to Walking in Leaves to find him curled up on some blankets asleep. I told this information to Violet and she teleported up to the roof.
"We should set up a watch just in case. I'll take first watch." I told Violet. And thus Our night sleeping on a roof began.
Authors note
So chapter seven is done and over with. Reading over the story so far I realized that I should have given the house Moya lives in a description as well as the town the group is in. Anyway we got a new group member and possibly a second one. I don't think I will let the group get too big otherwise it will just get really confusing for me to keep them all strait.
8: Chapter 8~~Chapter 8
If you ever have the choice to sleep two thirds of the night on a roof and stay awake the other part, don't do it. It got really cold and it was so hard to stay awake during my shift. The only reason that I was able to stay awake at all is because a cat happened to jump up and see me. The cat decided that I needed company and sat in my lap.I decided that when the moon had reached pretty high into the sky i would wake up someone else for a shift, I was just unsure who.
Walking in Leaves sat bolt up right suddenly. My eyes darted to him as the cat darted away. It was kind of sad to see it go but it wasn't my cat.
"Whats up?" I asked concerned.
"Just a nightmare." He replied. "A bad one."
"Your not doing all of this to betray us are you? Because this plot line is so overused." Walking in Leaves looked at me confused.
"What?"
"A lot of the movies I watched has this plot line where the group helps someone and who they helped out ends up betraying them."
"What's a movie?"
"It's like a moving picture that tells a story. It's to pass time where I'm from. I'm getting tired. Take watch for me, please."
"Sure. Don't worry I'm not going to kill you in your sleep."
"Thanks for that."
It took me a while to go to sleep. When I did go to sleep my dreams made no sense what so ever. One moment I was getting yelled at by a bear for stepping on his cheese, next thing I knew I was getting woken up. The sun shined in my eyes. I looked over to Violet to see her put a finger to her mouth in a be quite sign.
"I swear if its the knights again I'm going to flip." I whispered quietly.
"Actually its the mob from yesterday." She whispered.
I rolled my eyes. The mob from last night, such annoying development. First the knights then the mob. Whats next dragons? Actually I wouldn't doubt that in this world. For all I know dragons could exits. Wait, if this is the future would all the animals have changed and adapted, shouldn't the language be different as well? Is this the future? I mulled this over in my head for a while.
My mind snapped into the moment again.
"The mob, where are they and what do they want?" I quietly asked.
"They want Leaves over there. Currently they are asking Moya's Parents if they saw him." She answered just as quietly.
"The only problem is that I smell Mutts." Walking in Leaves whispered. "And I think they have my scent. Which is all over the house from going inside last night."
I looked over the edge of the house carefully. "How long have they been there?" I asked as I calculated our odds.
"Not long. We woke you up when we realized it was a mob." Violet informed me.
"Can you get us out?" I directed the question at Violet.
"I don't know about it. I might be able to but I don't want to leave Moya behind to face the mobs wrath herself."She stared off into the distance. "I might be able to get us all out if I had more time." The Mutts started barking just then and a girl screamed. I stood up not caring about the mob below us anymore.
"Get Moya now and meet us at the grove we waited at yesterday." I commanded. I looked out to where the grove was to make sure I knew where Leaves and I were going. "Leaves and I will get there on our own."
"You cant they will be after you." She tried to usher me down.
"Trust me. I am agile for an old man." I turned to Walking in Leaves. "We are going to get the mobs attention and get them away from the house and shop. Any questions?"
"Just one, how?" He questioned.
"Follow my lead." I took a running start and leaped off the side off the roof. As I landed I transferred all the motion into a roll again and came up standing. "Hey insecure butt munches." Look alright I enjoy odd insults. It pleases me to no end to see the one getting insulted act confused when I insult them.
"The Demi-human your looking for in right here." I shouted. Walking in leaves landed softly next to me and stood up. "Tada." I waved my hands in a like somebody waves there hands at a magician that just appeared out of nowhere. "Here he is." Sadly Walking in Leaves didn't play along with my little show.
"Can we get out of here now?" He asked me nervously.
"Not yet." i whispered back.
"Look there's the freak from yesterday!" Someone from the mob shouted.
"Bring the Mutts! I want to see him bleed!" Another one yelled.
"Now we run." I told Walking in Leaves. With that we took off running. I glanced back at the shop to see Violet blink out from on top of the roof. Then I saw the huge Mob running after us. "Don't look back." I shouted to Walking in Leaves. "It slows you down!"
The Mutts started howling at us. The howls didn't quite sound like a dogs howl. Thinking back real quick the barks they gave didn't sound like a dogs either. I debated real quick to look back to get a look at them then decided against it.
"We need to lose the Mutts fast. the only problem is they can catch our scent easily." Walking in Leaves panted next to me.
"Water! We need to find some kind of water. Any ideas?" I panted back.
"There's a river that way." He pointed to the left. "And there is a giant bridge we can jump off into the river near by too."
"If we split up it will be harder to find us. The only problem is I have no idea where to go for that or the layout of this town."
"I can help with that we just need to find someplace to stop for a moment."
"There!" I pointed to a ally way that led to a dead end. "Follow me and do as I do." Looking down the ally way there was a brick wall about the height of a house. You may be thinking that I am slightly insane for purposefully trapping myself but then again, I am insane. We sprinted down the ally way and I added a little more speed to my run. The way to the wall had a lot of trash cans and wooden boxes in the way so I used those to my advantage.
The closest garbage can to the wall was maybe a few feet from the wall. This gave me extra height for climbing up the wall like how I got onto the roof. Walking in Leaves must have known what I was doing because he took off in front of me and leaped from the ground to half way up a side wall. From that point he quickly jumped and landed on the wall. I was in the middle of my run up the wall when he landed.
I had to pull myself up the wall the last bit. As I sat on the wall Walking in Leaves turned to me. "Here is good." He turned to me. "Don't freak out on me alright just trust me." He placed his hand on my head and whispered to himself. "Share." I heard him mutter.
My vision went dark. I saw the town we where in from a birds eye view. It wasn't really a town though, more like a small city. The streets weaved like a snake though buildings. A red line appeared from one street and weaved itself through to a river cutting through the middle of this map. The map imprinted itself in my mind. Then something else happened. A feeling of weakness came over me. Not the "I'm tired" kind of weakness but more of a "I can't save them" weakness. A image of a woman with dog ears stood before me with her back facing me, her arms spread out like she was protecting me.. Light shown through the door of a wooden house making her a silhouette. Another Silhouette came in and brought an axe down to her neck.
I Jerked my head back away from Walking in Leaves. "Sorry, I'm still learning that trick." He explained. A voice shouted from the other end of the ally.
"There they are!"
"Meet at the bridge as soon as you can. Go!" I ran along the wall and onto the roof right next to it. I pulled up the mental map Walking in Leaves gave to me in my mind. Following the line as best I could I ran to the river.
"They split up!" A voice behind me screeched.
"Go after the freak! We'll get his friend!" Another screamed.
The houses were close enough to where I could jump from one to the other. Somehow the mob following got ahead of me and forced me to turn in the opposite direction that I wanted. Now what was ahead of me was a busy street. A pole stood close to my location. I ran for that and jumped. I grabbed onto the pole and swung my feet around it. I ended up wrapping my legs around it and spiraling down the pole. Feeling like a stripped I took off down the street until I saw the mob ahead of me.
"There!" A few pointed to me.
"Nope, not that way." I told myself and turned around. The mob was behind me as well. They did the same exact thing as the first half and started to rush to me. I dashed into the ally way right next to me and made a break for the other side. A man with a sword stepped into my way, He unsheathed it and threw the sheath down. He stood with it pointed at me and waited for me to turn and run. I did what he didn't expect. I ran at him.
The running at the figure in the ally entrance shocked him but in the time that it took me to reach him he was ready for me. What he wasn't ready for was a kid to jump off the wall and over him. When he spun around i had already had my elbow racing to his face. I yanked the sword out of his hands and grabbed the sheath. I re-sheathed the sword as I got back on track to the river. The mob was still chasing me after all. I was only wondering why the people were chasing me and not the mutts.
Authors note
So chapter eight is out there. Epic chase scene! The next chapter I will tell Walking in Leaves side of the flight. I am trying to improve my writing style and so far all my characters have been sassy, sarcastic and plane out awesome people so I wanted to do a more serious character to broaden my writing. Again if you see anyway for me to improve my writing style please let me know.
9: Chapter 9Chapter 9
Walking in Leaves point of view:
"I shouldn't have done that." I repeated to myself for the thirtieth time. "I should not have done that." I turned the corner at a full sprint nearly knocking over an old lady. "What was I thinking? I know that I can't completely control what comes from that power yet. Why did I bother to do it anyways? It's not like he can help me save my village."
I looked ahead of myself to find the Mutts. "Crap. They set the Mutts on me." Mutts are tamed animals from the dessert. Their long, thin snouts contain sharp teeth that can grow large enough to where they can't close their mouth properly, not that they could anyways. Their front teeth grow out quite large anyways (like a saber tooth tiger). There black eyes blend in with their dark fur and there slender bodies are built for running and pulling.
"They must have figured that because I'm more agile than them that the Mutts would be a better bet to catch me. Thankfully because I am half fox I can also understand what other animals are thinking, unfortunately these Mutts aren't thinking good thoughts.
Kill. Destroy. End. Capture. It seemed like they couldn't decide what they wanted to do. Every single Mutt had another idea from the rest. Not a good sign for me. I needed to get to a place that the Mutts couldn't get to.
"The roofs!" I exclaimed to myself. "They can't climb." I quickly spun around and took off running away from the growling pack of Mutts.
Split up and surround him! A Mutt with a white patch in the shape of a moon on his head growled to the rest of the group. That Mutt must be the alpha. If I take him out I should be able to cause enough confusion to get to the bridge, meet Kyle, and get away. I just need a way to kill the Alpha.
I ran around the corner and took off down the street towards the bridge. Somewhere along the way I heard the Mutts barking to each other. I had to get up high pretty fast. I need a way to get up now. A man walked out of a smith shop with a spear.
I reached into my pocket for something to trade him but came up empty. As I ran by the spear man I grabbed it and yanked it along with me. The man who was holding it was thrown to the ground and was unable to get up fast enough to see me turn the corner and run to a café.
The café I ran to had a roof low enough to where I could jump from the wall in the front to one of the umbrellas on the tables and onto the roof. Once on the roof I took the spear and hand and ran.
I ran along the roofs until they ran out. When that happened I jumped down to the street. The Mutts came around the corner just as I hit the ground. I ran in the opposite direction. Out came the Alpha Mutt directly in my path.
Stand down Demi. It spoke to me
"Or else what?" I growled back.
I could kill you. The Alpha barked.
"I could also kill you." The rest of the Mutts surrounded me and where ready to pounce at me.
He's mine. The alpha growled to the rest of them.
No, he is ours. So, now one of the Mutts decided now is the perfect time for a mutiny. I will make the choices now. All the other Mutts murmured in agreement. I prepared my spear just in case I needed it. I wasn't as skilled with a spear as with a sword but right now I had to use whatever was given to me.
Fine then. Take him yourself. Just know that I will take back my title at any cost. Alpha Mutt growled at the rest. I pointed my spear at the Mutt who wants the Alpha title. The only difference between this Mutt and the rest is that this one has a black coat of fur while the rest have dark greys or browns. The current Alpha stood beside me and growled at the other Mutts. I understood that this team up was a temporary thing and as soon as he got back control he was going to turn on me again.
The Challenger lunged at me but the Alpha intercepted him. A battle broke out between them leaving me to deal with the rest of the pack. I did a quick count of the rest before they started their assault. I used the spear I took and knocked the Mutts jumping at me away. They kept getting back up and trying again.
I backed away slowly to the wall behind me. Once my back was pressed against the I didn't have to worry about the Mutts jumping on my back. My spear swished back and forth warning the Mutts to keep away. The Alpha howled in pain. My eyes snapped to him to see the Challenger with his teeth around the Alphas neck. I have no idea why but I threw my spear right at the challenger.
My spear stuck the challenger right in the thigh causing it to release the Alpha. The only problem was that now I was weaponless. The Alpha jumped on the Challenger I ignored the fight and focused on my predicament.
"Oi, You need some help?" Kyles voice called from the top of the wall above me.
"Yes." I answered him.
"Wow, your no fun. No sarcastic comment or anything. We need to work on you sense of humor."
"Mutts are attacking me, help me now."
"Fine. Catch." I looked up to see Kyle drop something above me. When I caught the package dropped I felt the weight of a Messer sword. I unsheathed the sword that landed in my hand and felt the weight of the blade. I spun the blade in a eligant arc to get a feeling of how the weapon flows.
I felt a smile spread across my lips. I enjoyed the time I spend dancing with swords, the only problem with this dance is I can't kill the Mutts before me. I didn't want to put a weight of murder in my head. The Mutts were only obeying orders given to them.
While I wouldn't kill the Mutts I could harm them to keep them from hurting me. The Mutts attacked again and the sword in my hand swished through the air in elaborate arcs. Slicing into the Mutts attacking me I tried to back away from their barrage of attacks.
"Hey Leaves. Why are those dogs fighting each other?" Kyle asked. I was too busy to answer him. Kyle jumped down from the wall he was perched on. "I mean, wouldn't they have been fighting against you?" He picked up the spear I threw at the Chalanger. It had fallen out of the Chalanger during the scuffle.
I put Kyle out of my mind for a moment and focused on the Mutts before me. I slashed another Mutt's leg and posed for another attack. Kyle came into my field of vision. Kyle strut over to the remaining five Mutts. Myles foot intercepted the Mutt that just lunged for me. The kicked Mutt hit the ground and layer still. Kylie's spear spun through the air knocking the last of the Mutts down.
"Why did it take you so long to knock down the rest of them?" Kyle joked. I ignored him and walked over to the Alpha and Challenger.
"Need some help?" I asked the Alpha. I began to feel attached to the guy.
"Actually it would be appreciated." The Alpha answered.
"Welcoming help from the enemy. That proves that you are unfit to lead." The Challenger growled from a little bit away.
"I no longer care for the pack that betrayed their leader!" The Alpha howled back.
"We Betrayed the leader who was unfit to lead!" The Challenger argued.
"Ummmm, Which one do I hit? Or do I hit both of them?" Kyle asked from beside me.
"The darker coat Challenged the Alpha because he felt that the Alpha was unfit to lead. The alpha is done with the pack now and just wants the fight to end." I summarized for Kyle.
"So the Alpha is the one with the moon on his head?" Kyle questioned.
"Yes." I answered.
"I am done with this fight, Finish him so that I may leave and be done with this pointless battle." The Alpha commanded us. I relayed this to Kyle.
"I tell you what pal. I will knock this guy out but you have to..." Kyle never finished before he lunged at the Challenger widely spinning his spear. A meaty thunk sounded from the Challenger and the Mutt crumbled.
"...Watch." Kyle finished. The Alpha stood dumbfounded at how easily Kyle knocked the Challenger out. I was too.
"Alright, now then." Kyle pointed his spear at the Alpha mutt. "You can either live on the street like a stay dog or you can join our rag-tag group of outlaws."
The Alpha looked at me. "Call me Saber. There is another pack of my kind tracking you. I hope you have a plan."
"Kyle, Saber decided to join us. Now we should really go. There's another pack after us." I panted. I didn't realize how tired I was until now. Kyle was panting too and Saber was bleeding from several wounds.
"Alright its only one more block till the river. Lets get there, after that I will get us to Violet and Moya." Kyle told us. With that we took off running, again.
Authors note:
I can't believe we are already on chapter 9 of this story. I know I said that I wouldn't add more characters but I felt that it was a good addition to the group. Also I decided that I hate writing in a serious tone. I will not be doing this again except to explain something from Walking in Leaves point of view to create a better understanding of what is going on.
Again let me just say that I would love any feed back about how my writing style is and any way to improve it. I hope you enjoyed my story because I enjoy writing it.
10: Chapter 10Chapter 10
Violets point of view:
"Where are those idiots? It's been nearly an hour and I still haven't eaten!" I angrily called to the wind.
"Relax Vi." Moya called from the packs we snagged before teleporting out here. She must have gotten over the shock of the jump by now. "They will be here. Now come here and explain why you didn't tell me about your freaken magic!"
Kyles Point of View:
Running to the river was easier than expected. I was a little worried about Sabers wounds though. He was bleeding pretty bad from a gash on him. I wasn't sure where it was though. Saber was running next to Leaves, they were ahead of me but not that far ahead. We rounded the corner to the river and made a break across the street to it.
"The location is off a little bit." I muttered to myself as we prepared to jump in.
"Does it matter that much to you?" Leaves commented. I was too tired to make a witty reply so I just shook my head.
"Alright just swim over to the other side of the bank and wait for the others." I told them. I looked at Saber. "Will you be able to make it?"
Walking in Leaves translated for me. "I was able to swim this at a pup." I stopped being baffled by the abilities of people in this world and just accepted them now.
"Alright." I jumped into the river and swam across. When I reached the other bank I pulled myself out and placed my spear down. When Leaves made it across I took the sword he handed me and placed that down too.
"Can he get over the edge?" I asked Leaves while looking at the two foot tall ledge on the edge of the river.
"I don't know. Lets be ready to help him just in case." Walking in Leaves answered.
Saber swam up to shore and was able to jump up part of the way. I grabbed him and help the Mutt up the rest. "Hey before we tack off let me see that wound." I told Saber.
"It's nothing. I have gotten worse playing with my pack." Walking in leaves Relayed for me.
"You may have gotten worse but I can close it up to that it heals faster." I told him.
"You have magic too?" Leaves asked me. His voice wasn't in a different tone like when he translates for Saber.
"No, I don't have magic but I do know a lot of things. Just let me see it." I answered. "Hey go run up to that pub and take one of those bottles from that passed out guy. Be sly about it. We don't want any more trouble."
Walking in leaves slipped away to fetch the bottle. I talked to Saber. "Alright so just let me look at it. I don't want you to bleed out." Saber shook his shoulders. I wasn't sure what that meant. "Yeah I don't speak Mutt. I'm strictly human, no magic or anything like that." Another motion that I think is some kind of attempt at communication. "Nope nothing. Just let me see it." Saber finally gave in and showed me the gash. He probably did get worse messing around but it was still bleeding pretty bad. Leaves came back with a bottle and handed it to me. I took a sniff of it to see how strong it was. I don't think I have any nose hairs left because of that whiff.
"Alright this is going to hurt, a lot." I told Saber. I splashed the alcohol on the gash. Saber yipped in pain and backed away. "Sorry about that. I needed to clean the wound so that it wouldn't get infected. Now I just need to close it to start the healing process." I explain to him. I started twisting Sabers fur together on either side of the wound. "This is just closing the wound. I don't have any thread to use but this works just the same."
"Where did you learn this?" Walking in Leaves asked me.
"Remember last night when I said that I watch a lot of moving pictures?" I questioned him while still twisting fur.
"Yes." He answered.
"Well this came from a show on TV. It's what we called the frame that held all the different moving pictures." I answered the question before he could ask it. "Alright your done. Hopefully it holds long enough to start closing up. Now lets get going. The grove we are to meet up Violet at is..." I was rudely interrupted by a voice on the bridge next to us.
"There they are!" A mob member yelled from the bridge. "And they got Jerry's Mutt!"
The mob member who supposedly named Jerry yelled at Saber. "Get 'em you stupid Mutt!"
"I see another reason why you chose us." I commented. "Now then, Another thing of running. So much for the river to throw off the scent." With that hanging in the air we all took off running. We found a place to get back on the street and we turned a corner into yet another ally. I found some kind of coin on the street ahead of us and scooped it up as we ran by. Another one was just ahead of us but this one looked gold instead of silver.
"Hey what's this?" I asked Leaves as we ran.
"It's this really the right time to be asking about coins?" He exclaimed.
"Can we buy a hat and some fruit with this? I have an idea."
"Yes I think we can."
"Alright." I stopped at a fruit stand and picked up two apples. "Is this enough?" I asked showing the owner a silver coin. "And would it be possible to buy that hat as well?" the store owner nodded his head and handed me the hat. It looked like he was about to give me a coin back but I stopped him.
"Keep the change." I handed the hat to Leaves as we started running again. "Put that on and hide your ears." I commanded. "Turn right now." We turned right and I stopped our little group.
"Alright. Stick these down your shirt." I handed Walking in leaves the apples. Confused he complied. They didn't stay like I wanted them too so I solved that problem with a scarf that was hanging down from a clothing line. I tied the apples to his chest and grabbed Leaves' hand.
"Act shy." I told Leaves. "Hide." I pointed at Saber, saber hid behind a trashcan. I lead Leaves to the exit that we just came from right as the mob ran into it.
"Did you see a Demi-Human and a kid about your age run by here?" One of them asked brandishing a pitchfork, yes a pitchfork.
"Yeah I did. The jerks nearly knocked over my girlfriend here. They ran that way." I pointed to the other end of the alley. "When you catch them punch them for me a few times." I called as they took off. I waited a bit before turning to Leaves.
"Alright you can take out the apples but leave the hat on for now. Saber your good to come out." I called. Walking in Leaves took off the scarf and I hung it back up on the line. "Alright lets head on down to the grove. Lets do a slight amount of shopping too. I kind of hungry. What can I buy with this gold piece?"
author's note:
This chapter I finished quite fast, which amazed me. Something has been bugging me though when writing this story. If Someone was to time travel into time wouldn't they have no immunity against any germs or viruses. And wouldn't the language be different. The 1800's had different words than we do now.
Well I don't think I will put that into the story. Again if you see a way for me to improve my writing style please tell me.
11: Chapter 11Chapter 11
Kyle's point of view:
The shopping did help out a lot. Turns out a gold coin is about the equivalent of a hundred dollar bill. I was able to buy a lot of food items with some money left over. The mob did pass by as we where shopping, they never give up do they. I led the small group to the grove with the food. Moya ran out to use to make sure we were okay.
"What is that!" Moya screamed looking at Saber.
"It's a squirrel." I joked.
"This is Saber. His pack betrayed him so he joined us." Walking in leaves explained.
"Your no fun." I wined. "You didn't let me joke around about it."
"Nice hat." Violet commented to Leaves. "And as long as Saber doesn't bite me I'm okay with it."
"Well I'm not. This thing snarled at me in my room. Am I just to forgive that?" Moya asked angrily.
"No your suppose to hold a grudge for the rest of your life for a dog obeying it's masters orders." I said sarcastically.
"Saber says that he's sorry for growling at you." Walking in leaves told Moya.
"He's sorry? Are you just making this up to save time?" She exclaimed.
"Did you bring any food?" Violet questioned me. "I'm starving."
I ignored the argument breaking out between Moya, Walking in Leaves and Saber, who was speaking through Walking in Leaves. "Yeah I brought some food. Found some money on the ground and used that."
"Great, what did you get?"
"Essentially food to travel with. Some jerky, bread, nuts, oh and two apples. I wouldn't eat them though."
"Why not?"
"I disguised Leaves as a girl." She looked confused for a moment before it dawned on her.
"Oh. Yeah wash those first."
"Or we could feed them to the arguing couple. How long do you think it will be before they kiss?"
"Two weeks."
"I think three before Walking in Leaves pulls any kind of move."
"Moya is very good at getting a boy to like her."
"Lets make a bet."
"Whats to bet?" I stood there for a moment thinking. After not being able to come up with anything I shrugged my shoulders.
"We'll think of something later." Saber had given up on the argument and sat down next to use. "Yeah hungry Saber?"
Saber nodded his head. It kind of shocked me to see him nod his head. I have never seen a dog do that. "Alright then I got some meat in here of you want some of that." Saber looked at me and nodded again. I fed him some of the jerky.
"Crap!" I exclaimed suddenly. Saber was startled by my outburst, Violet was too.
"What?" She asked.
"Our bags were left at the house."
"Actually they are over there." Violet pointed to a nearby tree.
"Oh. That's good. I'm so glad that I didn't need to worry about the bag on my back as we ran."
"How was that by the way?" Violet seemed curious.
"Actually it was fun. I managed to take a sword from a mob member and Leaves got a spear."
"Now we wont be completely vulnerable."
"Yeah. It is only like what? Noon?"
"About, Moya's parents should have read the note by now."
"Did you leave a way to contact your father?"
"No." Violet seemed disappointed about that. I tried to comfort her but she was having none of that.
"This is all your fault!" Moya screamed at Walking in Leaves.
"My Fault! You didn't have to let me into your stupid store!" He yelled back.
"I didn't!" Moya countered.
"Alright enough!" I interrupted both of them. "I convinced you to let him in Moya! And Leaves, you better be glad that I did! Now if you both could just forget it and come eat that would be great. We have to get moving to go help Leaves town!"
They came over and sat down glaring at each other. "Do not make you two kiss." Violet smiled devilishly. "I will do it."
Saber puffed and rolled his eyes.
"I do not like her!" Leaves yelled at the Dog. Saber looked at me and Violet. We both smiled back to him.
"Hey don't get mad at the dog for calling you out." I put my hands up as I spoke.
"It's a Mutt." Violet told me. "Dog's are what we call the wild ones." I took that in. I would have thought it would be the opposite. I thought to myself. I handed the apples to Moya and Leaves.
"Eat on the road we got a lot of walking to do." I told them. I walked over to the packs. Separating the rest of the food into four different piles I put the separated food in each pack. I tossed a pack to Violet then tossed the other two to Moya and Walking in Leaves. A voice sounded in the distance.
"Dad?" Violet questioned.
"Violet are you here?" Herald called.
"Yes dad, I'm over here!" Violet called from outside the grove of trees. I stood beside her and waved. Herald ran over to use.
"Oh thank the gods I found you." Herald said as he hugged her. "Your mother was so worried when you didn't come home." Herald turned to me. "If you hurt her in anyway I will kill you."
"I didn't hurt her sir." I tried to appease him.
"Did he hurt you?" Herald questioned Violet.
"No dad. He helped out when I was in a bad spot and save other people as well." Violet responded.
"Like who?" Herald insisted.
"Moya and a Demi-human named Walking in Leaves." Violet told him.
"Hey, can I ask a question?" I threw out there. When nobody told me I couldn't I asked the question on my mind. "How did you know about Violets magic?" Violet looked at her father and nodded in agreement to my question.
"I guess you should know." He began. I stopped him before he could continue.
"I think we should move away from that city. I don't want another incident."
Herald looked at me amazed.
"Glad you're taking charge." He commented. "I didn't think you would."
"If I didn't who will?" I responded. "Moya, Leaves, Saber! Come on we are leaving."
"Alright." Moya called. The rest of the group came out of the grove and we started walking in the direction Walking in Leaves pointed to.
"Dad, explain how you know about my magic." Violet told her dad.
"Alright, just let me apologize about not confronting you about it, and for treating people with magic badly. I felt that if I made it seem like they were completely evil you would use your magic and hid it much better than if I confronted you.
"My sister has magic like yours. I didn't find out until I was about your age. Knights came to our house in the morning and took her like they tried to do with you. They executed her in front of our town. When your were born I sensed that something was different about you. I had no idea what was different until you were eight.
"When you were eight I saw you teleporting around in the backyard. I knew that if you were to continue like how you were starting out you would be caught within a year. This is when I needed a way to get you to stop showing off. That's when I decided to tell you that all magic is evil. I thought that if you believed that nobody would accept your magic you would hid it better than if you know some would accept it. It was a poor parenting decision but it was the one I thought was best." As Herald talked his voice cracked a lot and tears formed in his eyes.
"It's okay daddy." Violet told him. I let them be and walked a little farther with Walking in Leaves, Moya, and Saber. We stopped and waited for them to have a family hug fest.
"Hey dad. What are you going to tell mom?" Violet asked concerned.
"I will tell her the truth." Herald answered.
"Will she be okay with it?"
"Your her daughter Violet. She will be okay with anything you do."
"Then I will continue to travel with this rag tag group. I want to see the world and help out those like me who need it."
"I will tell your mother. Kyle, you had better take care of my little girl." He called to me.
"I promise I will Sir." I called back
"You better take care of everybody here." Herald told me.
"If somebody were to die I don't think I could forgive myself." I answered him.
"Good. Send us letters if you can and keep us updated on your adventures Violet." He redirected his attention to his daughter. They embraced again and herald left to go back home.
I'm still wondering about what I saw during Leaves sharing thing but I don't know if he's willing to share what happened just yet. I thought to myself. He will talk to me when its time to.
Authors note:
This chapter was the hardest to write so far. I had eight different ways the conversation between Herald and Violet went and I liked this one the best. Granted, Heralds way of getting his daughter to keep her magic a secret wasn't my favorite way to teach your kid but I don't really have a game plan for this story. I'm just letting the words flow and letting it take a life of its own. In the beginning Violets family wasn't going to know anything about her magic but as I was writing chapter 5 I felt that Kyle needed some kind of guidance. Anyway if I continue to go on I might just start explaining how I want this story to progress and end. So ill end it with my usual "If you see something that needs improving feel free to tell me" Thing and end the chapter story. See you next chapter!
Alpha Walking Out!
12: Chapter 12Chapter 12
Kyles point of View:
It was about midday when we stopped and rested for a bit. It hasn't really been long sense we have gotten up and yet so much has happened today, we were all tired. Violet was much happier than before now that she has talked to her dad. Who concerned me the most was Moya, she was thrown into this group unknowingly. She had no idea what we were and what was going on when she was forced to join. Violet knew that the knights were after her when the group started with me and her. Leaves joined up because of his flight from the mob and figured out that Violet has magic by what I am guessing was his sense of smell. Saber knew that We were wanted because he was chasing us. Moya was the only one who had no idea about anything.
"Hey Moya, how you holding up?" I asked.
"I've been better." She admitted. "I still can't believe that Violet has Magic."
"And believing that I'm from the past is easier?" I joked. She laughed a little.
"Actually yes it is. There is a religion out there that believe that a child from the past will come and save the world. It's not a very large religion but its still out there. My brother converted to it."
"People will believe anything as long as they think it could help them out. For example: in my time there's a religion were they believe a Flying Spaghetti Monster created everything. It started out as a joke but was viewed as a actual religion by the time I left."
"Wow." Violet added. "Your time is weird."
"Yes it is." I agreed. "We should start moving again. Leaves you still around?" Walking in Leaves dropped down from a tree near by.
"Yeah I'm here. Are we leaving?" He answered me.
"Yes, we are Leaf-ing." I punned. Violet smiled and Moya giggled . Even Saber who had come out of the woods snickered at my pun. "I have been waiting for the last hour to say that." I chirped.
"I don't get it." Walking in Leaves stood confused. That made us laugh even more. The more that I looked at Leaves standing there looking confused the more I couldn't help but to laugh harder. Soon I was on the ground laughing.
"What?" Leaves looked at me. "Whats so funny?"
"Don't... Worry... About... It." I managed to studier between laughs. I got up from the ground. "Alright lets go."
We walked in the direction of Leaves' village. "How far is your village exactly?" Moya clucked.
"About a three days journey from here." Walking in leaves answered.
"So with our luck we will get there in about a week." I grumbled.
"Most likely." Leaves said honestly.
"Are there any towns on the way there? I think we should equip ourselves better than a spear and sword between the four people who need them." I remarked.
"I'm good with a bow." Moya chimed. "My dad took me hunting a lot and taught me how to use it." I nodded to Moya and turned to Violet.
"You have any preferences?" I inquired of her.
"I was never taught to use a weapon." She blushed slightly. "I have no idea how to hold one much less use it." I turned to Walking in Leaves.
"Short sword or knifes?" I asked.
Walking in Leaves answered me after some thought. "Maybe both. I could teach her how to use the sword but I have no idea about the knifes."
"I can do the knifes. I wasn't that good but I do have some experience."
Moya spoke out too. "Wouldn't a long sword be better because it has more reach?"
"Yes it would be better, but while you have to look at the weapons benefits you also have to look at the disadvantages. For example: a bow is great for long range battle but not close range. My spear has more reach than Leaves sword but it doesn't do as much damage due to the fact that the only blade on it is the tip." I answered her.
Walking in leaves also pitched something out there too. "And you also have to look at the person using the weapon."
"Exactly, I can use a bow because my aiming sucks. We wouldn't give you a huge mace to swing around because you couldn't use it properly."
"Okay I understand that." Violet announced. "But why a short sword or a knife? Why not a axe or something like that? What made you decide on those weapons in particular?"
"Well your lean and fast. Along with your teleporting I thought that something small and fast would be best." I answered Violet before turning to Leaves. "I think some knifes with long blades." I turned to everybody this time. "I only have twelve copper coins. What does everybody else have?" They all checked their pockets and came up empty.
"With twelve demar we could get more food, not weapons." Moya told me.
"Alright so how many demar in a silver coin and what's that called?" I asked her.
"It's twenty-five demar to a kemar." She answered
"And to a gold coin?" I questioned again.
"Thirty-two kemar to a zoin." She answered yet again.
Doing some quick math I got 800 demar to a zoin. "Wow." I muttered. "How are we going to get the money for this stuff? Wait... That jerk ripped me off!"
"what do you mean Kyle?" Violet asked.
"I should have gotten a kemar instead of twelve demar!" I yelled outraged. "Oh that two-sided-son-of-a-half-troll had better watch his back!"
"Wait you got ripped off?" Walking in Leaves translated for Saber.
"Yes I got ripped off! Stupid jerk played on my ignorance." I grumbled. "How much is it for weapons?" Wiping my hand down my face.
"Depends on the quality. Bows can be anywhere from three kemar to five zoin. The best price range would be about thirty kemar to a zoin. Best price range for knifes would be about two kemar for each." Violet answered. I turned to look at her. "My dad's a weapon smith. While my mother hated me training with weapons my dad did talk about them in case I needed to get some."
"Alright then." I commented. "Anybody know a quick way to make some coin?"
"There is robbery." Walking in Leaves suggested.
"Lets try not to become even more of criminals than we already are." I cautioned.
"Alright well theirs bounty hunting, escorting, or we might be able to become some idiots bodyguards." Moya said.
"Escorting might be the best for us." I said. "Plus it could be helpful to have some people vouch for us. How do we sign up?"
"Usually there is a guide you join and sign a contract for an amount of time before you can leave and join another. We can't do that being on the run and all that." Moya informed me. "We could try looking for someone going on a trip and confronting them."
"HELP ME!" Someone shouted from the distance.
"Or we could run to the screaming voice and see what happens." I sarcastically stated before taking off towards the voice. It took some time before I got close enough to see what was happening. A older man was up in the tree with a bunch of dog barking up the tree. Around the tree was a camp site that looked like it had been ransacked.
"PLEASE HELP ME." The old man wailed. I laughed at the situation. It was just like the Fates set this all up just for us.
"Yeah we will help you out." I called to the man in the tree. I ran at the dogs screaming bloody murder and swung the bottom of my spear at them to scare them off. A few dogs did get startled and ran off but the rest didn't they chose to turn their attention to me. This dog didn't have Sabers huge front teeth but other than that they looked a lot alike. I had to hit the other dogs before they ran off.
The old man climbed down from the tree and shook my hand thankfully. "Thank you so much. I don't think I could ever repay you." He stammered out.
"It's nothing. I'm glad to help out anyone in trouble." I told him
"Oh I know." He let go of my hand and rummaged around his now broken camp. He dumped a bag of money into my hands and smiled. "Here its the least I can do for you." He smiled cheerfully. I looked into the bag to find it full of demar, kemar and zoin.
"This is too much. I can't take all of this." I told him.
"No please take it all. Its the least I can do. Please."
"I tell you what. Let us take you to the next town and then we will call it even." I compromised.
"Us? There are more of you?" He asked cheerfully.
"Yes there are." I turned to were I thought my group was. "Come one out!" My group came out of the tree on the other side of the clearing. I must have gotten turned around while swinging my spear.
I pointed to each in turn. "This is Violet, Moya Walking in Leaves and Saber." I introduced. "Everybody this is..." I trailed off because I realized that I had no idea what his name was.
"My name is Paul." He said and shook everybody's hand, including Sabers paw. "I'm please to meet you all." He cheerfully added. Paul had salt and pepper hair that was high on his head due to his receding hairline and wrinkles around his eyes from smiling. He had a cheery face and wore expensive clothing. He did look extremely helpless.
"So if I may. Why are you out here alone?" Walking in Leaves asked Paul.
"Oh that. I was trying to get to the next town over to see my granddaughter. She's turning six." He bragged.
"How long have you been in that tree?" I questioned.
"Well I'm not entirely sure how long because I woke up in the tree a while ago." He answered happily. "I woke up in the middle of the night and climbed the tree to get a better look a the moon."
"Ah. Shall we pack up your camp and take you to the next village." I suggested.
"Please, that would be wonderful." He said sweeping an arm to his camp. I turned to everyone and shrugged. We broke down the camp in no time at all. Because it was ransacked there were flying items here and there. We tossed the items to each other to get them together. The camp ended up being able to fit into a few bags.
"How did you carry this all yourself?" I asked Paul.
"Well I did have some workers as well but they all left before I woke up to the barking dogs. They must have gotten scared and ran home. It's okay though. I don't blame them. Those dogs scared me too." He answered merrily.
"Alright. Lets start heading out." I told the group. Paul grabbed one of the bags and started whistling as we walked.
Authors note:
Here's another long chapter here and gone. It's amazing how everything just falls into our heroes and heroines laps, right. Anyway this is a kind of short Authors Note and Imma leave saying please tell me if you see a way to improve my writing or if you have any comments questions or concerns about my story.
Alpha Walking out.
13: Chapter 13Kyles grandfathers point of View.
Please wake up. kyle had been in a coma for five days now. I want him to wake up.
Its not my fault. It was the drunk driver. I kept telling myself but it never stuck in my mind.
Meanwhile in Kyles Mind:
Paul had a knife in my stomach. "I think you need to remember now." He told me. Violet had teleported my spear away and stuck that in my arm.
"You need to face the truth." She said in a trance like state.
Walking in Leaves stuck his sword into my other arm. "Its not my village in trouble. You are."
Saber latched onto my leg with his teeth and growled between them. "You need to realize and remember hat happened."
"Fight. Fight to continue to live." Moya whispered behind me. "Fight them." And fight them I did.
Meanwhile in the real world.
"NURSE! NURSE! HE'S SEIZING!" I screamed on top of my lungs. The nurse ran inside the room and began protocol as I gave her room.
Again in Kyles mind.
I had managed to get my spear back and was spinning it wildly around me. Walking in Leaves was long gone and Paul Disappeared some time ago as well. I slashed through Saber and watched as he faded into darkness. Violet was teleporting everywhere slashing me with Leaves sword. She wouldn't stop shouting at me.
"Remember! Remember the crash!" I slashed at her.
"There was no crash!" I shouted back. "The only one was getting cleaned up already!"
"No! It wasn't!"
"It was!" I slashed and stabbed continuing this fight.
"That's what you saw after being Care flighted out!" I felt tears in my eyes.
"It's not!" Violet teleported in front of me and I managed to spear her. She grabbed the spear and with blood coming out of her mouth she whispered in my grandfathers Voice.
"Please wake up." Violet faded into black. I fell onto my knees in despair and yelled into the heavens. Moya began to comfort me.
"It was a drunk driver Kyle. Please wake up. Your grandfather is worried."
"What about Leave's village?" I sobbed. "I was going to save it."
"It matters not. Just wake up." Moya told me before fading into darkness.
Third person point of view:
Kyle woke up with tears in his eyes. "Grandfather." He said reaching for his hand. His grandfather took it eagerly. "How long have I been in a coma?"
Herald smiled at Kyle softly. "Three weeks. I am going to go get your mother now. She's worried sick." Kyle nodded softly and let his Grandfathers hand go.
Two days later Kyle is walking down the hallway carefully. He passes by a room with the girl who looks like Violet. Her hair is gone from the chemotherapy for her terminal cancer. She wanted to see all the places she hasn't been able to.
Another room held a boy who looked like Walking in Leaves. He had come in with a broken arm and a dead dog. He was from an abusive family that wanted nothing to do with him. He brought home a stray puppy and was beat for it.
The last room he went by held Moya. Her name was actually Moya. She had ran away from home to go to her boyfriends side when she was hit by a car. Internally bleeding she tried to heal.
Paul had died yesterday from old age. Kyle continued his walk and headed out the door to the front room. He was being taken out by his mother. He was healed enough to go home. And home he went. Throughout his life he thought back to the dream he had during his coma and wished he had been able to help out a lot more than he did. But he still lived his life.
Authors note.
I know. My two followers at this time are freaken mad at me. But I can explain. Okay so in my authors notes I said that this was just a practice story right? Well I thought of a plot line that I liked and wanted to run with it but realized that the story so far was poorly made and couldn't roll well with it so decided to scrap it and try again. I will change a lot of things Like Moya's and Walking in leave's names for example. And it will be much more well written but to do this i must,
Firstly, I'm going into incognito for a while to rewrite the entire story so far.
Secondly, once I am done not only with the chapters be significantly longer but also it will be in more detail and have the plot line that I want.
Thirdly, I am going to overwrite the chapters I have posted and while everything will be somewhat the same a lot of things will be different.
And lastly, I will start updating it regularly instead of whenever I finish the chapter.
PS: I will also draw out a cover for the book as well and all chapters will have individual titles.
I will love to see you all read the better version. Also this was how I was going to end the story in the first place.
Again I am so sorry to do this to you and I really hope that you wont quit on me. and to anybody else who is reading this please come back and check it out. If you send me a message telling me how messed up this was I will send you a message back as soon as I have the chapters updated.
One more time. I'm really sorry.
