Kai pulled her scarf farther up on her face. Only her emerald eyes were showing as they glinted in the moonlight. Her eyes zeroed in on her target: an attendant from an enemy kingdom called Fallhaven. He seemed to be having trouble walking on the thick ice that was along the streets. She smirked watching the man blunder about. However time was of the essence and she needed to act quickly. Her hand curled around the smooth surface of her dagger’s hilt as she approached her quarry from behind. Promptly closing in she unsheathed the blade, bringing it to the man’s neck and slicing his throat with one swift motion. The man took labored wheezes as he frantically tried to turn around and face his killer. His eyes flickered with fear as he tried to stem the flow of his blood with his hands. He made a few gurgling noises before collapsing on the ground dead. She wiped her blade off on his thick coat before sheathing it once again and taking off into the night, leaving the body to be buried under the heavy snowfall. With her white cloak billowing behind her, Kai ran all the way back to the castle being careful not to leave any noticeable trail. She slipped in through a secret passage next to the servants’ quarters and found her way back to her room, locking the door firmly behind her. She quickly stripped out of her assassin clothes trading them for a green gown and hiding her gear beneath the floorboard. Quickly turning to the mirror, she began to fix her hair as a knock resounded on the door.
"Princess. The ball is about to start." Her maid Maria called through the door.
Kai finished up her hair before looking around the room to make sure nothing was out of place. Smiling, she unlocked the door and strode out into the hallway.
