Arriving

"I apologize for dragging you across yet another bloody country, princess." The tall silver haired man murmured as he glanced at the girl in the passenger seat. The girl smiled at him, reaching over to briefly lay her delicate hand against his much larger one. "It's fine uncle, I'm used to the moving around. And I told you, please call me Lyra. I'm not a princess." She said, her smile turning sad. Saren frowned and shook his head. "you will always be a princess to me, no matter your bloodline." He said, giving her hand a brief squeeze. "I like it here, its very green." She commented as she glanced out the window. Very green was an understatement; the was no brown to be seen. But Lyra didn't mind; she liked nature and with cities popping up all over the place, forests and such grew less and less.

"With the amount of forests and mountains here, would it be alright if I flew more?" She asked, glancing over at Saren. He frowned for a moment before nodding. "As long as you take Salem with you." Lyra looked down at the black cat dozing in her lap and poked him gently. "What about it Salem, want to go flying with me?" She asked him, smiling in excitement and hope. The cat raised his head and gazed at her with bright green and gold eyes for a moment before he sighed. "I suppose. Even if I say no, I'm sure you'll find someway to convince me anyway." The girl let out a happy little squeal and hugged the cat to her chest. "Thank you!"

The cat grumbled to himself as he was released and settled back down in the girls lap and closed his eyes once more. Saren smirked at the cat as he continued to drive. Soon they reached a small, cozy house and Lyra gazed at the house before something caught her eye. She blinked and looked over at her uncle, who was smiling when he realized what had caught her attention. "Saren, did you buy me a car?" Surprise colored her voice and Saren chuckled. "An Acura TL but yes, I suppose you could just call it a car." He laughed again. Lyra sighed and rolled her eyes as she opened her door. Salem just from lap and trotted up to the door, waiting for them grab their luggage. Soon they were stepping inside. The house was already furnished with modern furniture. The walls were a pale yellow in the living room and a cream color in the kitchen. It was two-stories with a single bathroom, two bedrooms, a dining room and a living room. Lyra loved it. She skipped up the stairs.

She quickly found the room she wanted, completed with light purple walls with blue accents and a balcony that overlooked the forest behind their house. It was also facing the east and so she could watch the sunrise in the morning. The room also had a walk-in closet, a desk, dresser, nightstand and bed. She smiled and set her stuff down and flopped down on the bare bed. "We'll have to go to the store and buy curtains and a bed set." Saren's voice spoke up from the doorway and Lyra smiled at him as she sat up. "I love it!" She exclaimed, gesturing at her room. The male chuckled. "I had a hunch you would. Anyway, I'm off to the store to buy food for the house and other things we need. I'll also pick up your school supplies you'll need tomorrow." Lyra nodded, feeling a nervous feeling settle in her stomach. School. No matter how many times they moved around, being the new girl was never any easier. Saren smiled at her, knowing what had brought her mood down suddenly and walked over, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "It will be fine." He said softly. "Now I shouldn't be gone long. Why don't you fly around and see the town? But don't stay out too late; I don't want you to be tired tomorrow."

Lyra nodded at her uncle and he left the room. Soon she heard his car start and drive away. She sat there for a few minutes before she went to look for Salem. She found him in the living room laying on the window seat by the the window next to the couch and she knew that that was going to be his favorite sunning spot. She coaxed him to go flying with her and he did grudgingly, muttering to himself as she picked him up, locked the door behind her then headed into the woods behind the house. She walked for a few minutes until she came to a clearing big enough for her to extend her wings and take off. She rolled her shoulders and slowly her white and gold wings unfurled through the slits in her shirt.

The feathers were slightly rumpled from being underneath her shirt. She flapped her wings a few times before taking to the sky, Salem held firmly in her arms. They drifted among the clouds as Lyra gazed down at the town spread out before her. It was small but quint. She just hoped they could stay here for longer than a few months. Lyra closed her eyes, her hair blowing behind as a small smile spread across her face. She loved flying; it always quieted her mind and eased her fears. There was just something serene about drifting above the world, it was like up here nothing could hurt her. Nothing could touch her. The girl looked at the horizon, the sunset painting the world in hues of gold, and red. She knew she should get home soon but she just couldn't bring herself to leave her safe haven. After an hour or two of flying the girl wheeled around flew back towards her house. She landed in the same spot she took off in and folded her wings back before she started walking back towards the house. Salem had fallen asleep on the flight home and so Lyra gently laid him on her bed before joining her uncle for dinner. Soon, Lyra got ready for bed and crawled under the blankets. Salem crawled under with her and curled up next to her. As Lyra waited for sleep to claim her, she gazed at the moonlight filtering in through her glass doors and silently wished for a chance to make this place her home.
