Prologue

Prologue: New Beginnings

An angel with jet black hair stood at the edge of a cliff. He looked at the moon in the sky. It shone a brilliant white, the orb in the air being completely visible. The angel flapped his wings gently; soon he would not be able to fly with them. His right wing was as black as his hair, and his left whiter than the moonlight. It's now or never… He poised himself to jump. I refuse to be stuck in heaven any longer. How ironic… Mortals spend their lives hoping for heaven, and I just want to get the hell out.

"Wait!" A pretty, feminine voice rang out. "Libra, wait! Don't do it!" Libra turned around, his wings twitching. A girl angel ran up to him. Her deep blue eyes met his dark brown ones. Shaking blonde hair out of her face, she paused to catch her breath.

"… What are you doing here?" Libra asked. His face showed no emotion, but his hands were balled into fists. How did she know I was here? The only person I told was Verum, and he wouldn't betray me. He noticed tear stains on her face, and his eyes narrowed. Like she has any real reasons to cry...

"Verum… He… He told me you were going to jump off the cliff of Rebirth. If you go, you can't return! Don't… You have to stay here!" Fear was in her eyes, and tears spilled out again.

"Shut up, Lux." Libra snarled, cutting her off before she could speak any longer. "Why would I be needed?" She recoiled slightly, cringing and biting her lip. "I was hated my entire life, for the offense of having different colored wings. You wouldn't understand, being born with two gold wings must have been absolutely lovely. I didn't do anything but get born, and that was enough for heaven to whisper behind my back, to ostracize me! My mother was an angel of light and my father an angel of shadow. Both vanished. Everyone hated me! The teachers were unfair, the elders shook their heads when I walked by, and all of the children tormented me endlessly."

"But even though my childhood was hell, I was still ready to serve the heavenly host. No matter how hard it got, I had two angels who accepted me; Verum and you. Lux. Verum… He was like my brother, but there was no way he could always look after me. So him getting a girlfriend, and growing kind of distant… It hurt, but we still hung out. We were still friends. And besides… I could handle being alone."

"But then you… You on the other, hand… I fell in love with you. And you said that you loved me too, when I confessed. For a few years, we were happy. But the instant that pretty boy Arthur showed up… You forgot me. Besides you and Verum, I trusted nobody. Because everyone hated me. But… I helplessly kept believing in you. I believed in you! I thought I could trust you. But then… I walk in on you two. … Go away, Lux. I don't want to see you." Libra turned around, and proceeded to walk to the edge of the cliff again.

"Stop!" Libra felt a familiar hand grab his own. "Libra, I… I still love you. I love you more than anything, I'm sorry… I'm so sorry… I never meant to hurt you like that." Lux looked into his eyes, pleading. The tears flowed out in a steady stream. She than hesitantly hugged him. "Stay with me… I'll never do that to you again, I swear it!" Libra shoved her off, and in that moment, her heart finally shattered.

"I don't believe that. If you really love me, why would you cheat on me? If you really love me, why would you allow all of the angels there to mock me? To insult me? You just stood there, and laughed with them. You don't love me. You just want to use me. People never change. Neither do angels. I don't believe you for a second when you say that you'll never do it again."

"Libra…" Lux began to say. Libra ignored her and kept talking.

"Well guess what?" He shook her hand away. "I'm done. I'm done trusting you. Trusting any of you. I just want a fresh start, far away from heaven. Heaven is overrated. Farewell. Good luck with pretty boy." He smirked, and Lux's heart leapt. Even when he was being spiteful, she couldn't help but find him handsome… Truth to be told, Libra wanted to believe her. But he could not afford to risk getting hurt like that again. It would be the end of him.

"Libra, no!" Lux's eyes widened as Libra jumped. He spread his wings out, allowing the air to pass through them. He spiked downwards like a cannonball, completely ignoring the horrified screams from Lux's mouth. For the first time in months, Libra truly smiled. He was free. Free from horrible chores that came from hateful superiors, odd looks from other angels, taunts from his peers, free from children pranking him, free from the whispers about him. At long last, he was free.

"Planet Earth… Here I come!"

And even if he went to hell for this… At least he finally got the chance to shape his own destiny.

Hello! Parallel Melodies here. Anyways, I’ve got an account on Fictionpress too; I’m pretty new to writing, and I wanted to try it. I apologize for slow updates in advance; my school really takes a lot out of me.
