It had been eight months. She had moved on, finally. She had accepted it. She stopped looking toward the door. The nagging feeling inside her had finally faded. Her entire focus was always on the work. She had never thought that she would actually be an event planer but life had always played games with her. There was always something bigger planned for her, and yet she never wanted anything else but a little home with a small garden for her small family. Two kids, she imagined often. However, there was always one part of her that believed that it would never be anything but a dream, and sometime it was a comfort for her. The world could tumble down and change into all the shapes it wanted but she could always rely on her dream. It was always with her. Whether she was a waitress in a small diner or the secretary in one of the biggest architecture companies in America, the dream remained. Even when Jack Nicholson hired her for the Raj Sings project, she stubbornly held on to her dream. Four months later, she had her own office and a list of events which needed to be planned. It was a job she had never thought of and yet she was good at it.
‘You understand them. You understand their needs and dreams! You are like a mind reader with ... very bad taste in shoes.’ Jack Nicholson often said with his British accent and a weird tendency to emphasize words like ‘needs’ and ‘dreams’. It always made her look down on her shoes and then smirk to Jack. ‘I prefer flat shoes so I can actually walk and talk at the same time without having to make weird faces because of the pain.’
‘But darling, you are already too small to be wearing flat shoes.’ Jack’s were widened as if he was in horror.
‘Sorry darling, you will just have to live with the fact that there are some people which are less than six foot tall.’
Jack shook his head in disappointment but knew that the battle was already lost.
Jack was an unusual man. He was a tall and slim man who was always well dressed. Beauty was important to him, and he would always criticize others for their lack of good taste, and yet he was kind and caring for everyone. He did not mind going to places which were much below his fancy wealth. His boyfriend, Liam Mitchell, knew absolutely nothing about fashion. He was professor in supernatural elements and founding. It was amusing to see them together, and she always enjoyed eating dinner with them even if they would always try to figure out why she was single. She would just ignore the question with a smile and wink as she took a sip of her water.
Eventually, Jack and Liam decided that she suffered from low self-esteem, which was not entirely wrong. Despite her elegant and simple clothing, she never described herself as beautiful or charming. She did not believe it herself. She did not think that she was ugly but she did not believe that there was anything beautiful about her. She had brown skin and brown eyes which suited her dark hair, which was mostly tied into ponytail. Her face was not round but her cheeks could sometimes make it look so. There was nothing unique about her but she also did not mind. She just believed that appearance was not her most attractive feature. On the other hand, she did believe that she could be quite mysterious which attracted people around her. Most people enjoyed this feature about her but Jack was rather annoyed. After eight months, he would certainly like to know more about her past but she never told him anything of great importance. She spoke about her jobs and that she had left them because she was unhappy with them but nothing deeper.
‘I might have to call the police to be sure that you are not someone dangerous’, He said one day. She merely laughed and replied, ‘Bring it on’. After eight month it was only natural that Jack would finally give up but instead he found motivation when James Wright walked into his office and almost demanded that Angie Noam would plan his sister’s engagement party. James had blue eyes and brown, untidy hair, which was quite charming with his black shirt and grey trousers. For a moment, Jack stared at James blankly but then quickly smiled, ‘she is very good.’
‘I hear she is the best.’ James smiled. He was from England, which was apparent from his accent, which was stronger than Jack’s.
‘I am afraid that she is not here today. She has the day off.’
‘I must meet her today. Is there no chance at all?’ The words showed desperation but James expressions were quite calm. He smiled as if he knew that there was a chance.
‘I will try to call her and convince her to come.’
‘That would be very kind of you.’ James smiled again.
Jack slowly turned around in his chair to pick up the phone and dial the number. There was an unusual smile on his face; some sort of satisfaction. James Wright was the head of one the biggest architecture company in the county, and he was specifically asking for Angie Noam. Jack was not a believer of coincidences. The sounded three times and then a voice spoke, ‘Noam speaking’. It was a tired voice. She was still sleeping. Jack smiled broader, ‘good morning, Angie. I am sorry to wake you but I must trouble you with some business.’
There was a moment of silence and then the voice spoke again in a confused tone, ‘Jack? Why are you talking like that?’
‘We have a customer who has specifically asked for Angie Noam.’
‘Angie?’
‘Yes, and he would really like to meet you today. He is really insisting, and I think that you should come by for a short meeting.’
‘How does he know first name? I don’t use on the company card. I haven’t told it to any clients either.’
‘So, will you be here?’
‘Who is he?’
‘You must come and see for yourself.’ Jack whispered.
‘It is my day off.’ She yearned.
‘He is really insisting, and of course we would like to give him the best service.’
‘Alright, alright; I will be there in thirty minutes.’
James hung up and smiled to James, ‘she will be here soon.’
