The Third Law...First of many new ideas

How's everyone doing, I'm new writer here on SpakaTale, currently I am writing two stories, both on here and FictionPress. But as for many people on here I assume, I have literally hundreds of ideas for stories that are constantly running through my head. I am mainly a sci-fi guy, and both of my stories on this sight are explicitly science fiction. But latley I find myself being inspired to write in other genres. One of my of my most notable is an idea for a crime thriller I've named The Third Law. I was directly inspired by two things, the Saw movies(as I am also somewhat of a horror affectionado) and a little known episode of the second revival of the Twilight Zone with Forrest Whitaker, entitled "The Many Executions Of Grady Finch". The latter deals with an accused killer who survives two executions and an assassination attempt. He is exonerated of the crime by a jury. Thinking he is immortal, the man winds being killed at the end of the episode by being crushed to death when a statue of Nemesis, the Goddess of Vengeance, falls right on top of him. This idea intrigued me as I have always been fascinated by the theme of revenge in stories and the many forms it can take. So as normal for a writer, a plot started to form in my head. I decided to combine many aspects of both Saw and this Twilight Zone episode. This is the basic premise of the Third Law...After a man's wife and unborn child are brutally slain by a notorious serial killer, he sets out on a mission of vengeance to find the murderer, to which he succeeds. However, just short of killing the man and fulfilling his need for revenge, he is stopped cold by a police sniper's bullet that tears through his shoulder, allowing the murderer to escape. The man is sent to prison for obstruction of justice and attempted murder. While incarcerated he is devastated to learn that his family's killer has already been killed in a standoff with police. This prompts him to fashion a twisted philosophy revolving around the Three Physical Laws of Motion introduced by Issac Newton. In particular the Third Law captivates him..."For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." Seeing this as some kind universal truth pertaining to every facet of life, he justifies his need for vengeance as simply the Third Law playing out. He decides that his vengeance must be satisfied and that universe demands it. So he escapes from prison and becomes a serial killer in his own right, vowing to hunt down the relatives of the original serial killer in order for the universe to be set back into balance, all the while using Issac Newton's Third Law as his Modus Operandi . Would like some feed back on this idea if anyone would be interested...

  • Well, so far, I love the idea, how someone inevitably ends up being a killer himself, the one thing he used to despise himself. If you just want critique for the idea, well, for me, it sounds like an original idea. As long as you can do it, go for it. And it's a great idea to break out of a comfortable genre and into others. All I can say is good luck. ^^

  • Thanks, yea I've been mulling around to try and get this idea down on paper, but so far I just haven't gotten around to it.
