FReEdOM New Character help?

Okay so if you check my account, you can find a story I am working on entitled 'FReEdOM' (don't mind the fancy capitalization, that's just me and my strange ways) Well, I'm wanting to introduce a new character. The problem is, I don't know my mythology as well as I hoped. If anyone can suggest a spirit/ghoul from their background? Preferrably of Asian origin, but from anywhere is fine (I really like Scandinavian mythology, if that helps anyone) As for details, this character must be male, and bear a notable item. For example, if the mythological character is a prince or king (eg, Raja Bersiung from my Malaysian heritage) they then have a crown. If the character has a story, which they probably do, that'd be fantastic too if you could enclose it in! :) So please, if anyone is willing to share their mythological stories (or create new ones, I really don't mind at all!) it'd be absolutely fantastic if you could share it with me. Thank you!

  • How about a kitsune from Japanese mythology? They each have a hoshi-no-tama (aka: star ball) which is essentially their soul in a small glass orb. They keep it close to them because if someone has their hoshi-no-tama then the kitsune has to follow the orders of the keeper of their hoshi-no-tama.
Kitsune are basically fox demons that are tricksters. They also have the ability to use fox fire which is basically magic fire. They can shapeshift but their faces remain fox like and they trick people by disguising themselves as humans. That's all I can remember from the top of my head right now and I may have gotten some things wrong. I'm not Japanese but I've had a fascination with Japanese mythology and demons and stuff so I did a bunch of research a while ago. You might want to double check some of my claims, sorry.
If you want to, you can get a bit more information from this site (remove spaces and parenthesis): asianart (.) com (/) articles (/) rubin (/), or just do your own research (google is your best friend).
    Hope that helped a bit.

  • Thanks for the help, a Kitsune was actually something I had thought of for the new character but I didn't know much about it, so your help is greatly appreciated! :)

  • An oni from Japan. They are an Eastern version of what we consider ogres, only in my opinion they are much worse. They are large hulking beasts, who are usually described as wearing tiger skin loincloths, but I've also read of them wearing traditional robes that people would wear as well. It is most notably known for carrying a giant kanobo(spiked wooden cudgel type weapon) or large sword, able to easily wield these weapons in one hand. They can have a wide range of skin colors such as red, blue, brown, or black. Also usually depicted with two horns jutting from its head, and a large mouth filled with sharp teeth. They are usually evil but have occasionally been show to be neutral. Associated were the northeast. Also these descriptions are not set in stone. Oni have been shown with one normal arm, the other a claw, or another set of eyes, and extra toes or fingers. Hope this helps somehow!

  • Let's see.... Kappas are turtle pond spirits from Japan. Mischievous. I don't know if they have any items. We also have the Centaur, with the torso of a man and the body of a horse, which is from...either Scandinavian or Greek I think. Notable item is a hunting horn I think. Of course we have dragons from Chinese mythology, with their famous fire-breathing. We also have the Faun (I 'think' it's Greek) like from Lion Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Notable item is a fiddle, and they have a human appearance other than their furry legs, cloven hooves and horns on their head. Hope this helps.
