The accident

A/N So been having a crappy night not really gonna say why, personal matters. Anyway decided to redo this story and put it a different way.

Jason had gotten himself in sticky situations before not all of them on his account, but out of all of them this one had to be the worst hes ever been in. Driving home from his job at the bar but not before drinking a couple of cold ones his employees had regarded to let him know that it was sleeting raining outside. And having already traveled a ways he had reluctantly decided on going through the slippery road anyway. Things had spiraled down ever since his ex wife Emily left him for his best friend, it was hard to believe it had only been a week or so since he had been left at the altar.

Having had forgotten exactly where this way leads Jason had forgotten about the bridge coming up on the way right, and as he turned his wheel trying to stop himself from sending his car into the plummet freezing water bellow. Jason realized one thing.

He was screwed.

A loud crash was heard his already beaten up car skitting across the ledge until it stilled the car having came halfway off the bridge, tilting as if it was a seesaw. After a few seconds of playing make sure this car doesn't fall off the edge, the 28 year old realized he was in a heap of trouble. And if he wanted to get out of this alive, he'd better move.

Tearing off his seat belt Jason quickly pushed the door open, unfortunately he failed to notice the strap which caught onto his leg. So as the car plummeted towards the water which luckily wasn't frozen over, Jason went right along with it.

The icy water hit him like a stab of knifes a feeling of shock to the system, sending a large kick up towards the surface Jason's teeth chattered uncontrollably his body struggling to regain its moment. There were a crowd gathering at the top of the bridge, and to Jason's relief a few seconds later there was a siren along with flashing cop car lights.

He had always gotten nervous around cops not that he had a record or anything, there authority though always made him nervous. He saw a couple of cops who had came to the scene, and a larger male which he recognized as the chief of Police. He didn't know the man but he was very well known around here, after all he was the chief.

"Hang on!" one cop yelled down to him, "were going to get you help".

Jason barley having enough energy to move his head splashed the water very lightly, in hopes that they would understand. One of the cops called for a ambulance while 3 others carefully headed down the deep slop down the hill heading towns the lake. Jason forced his tired cold body to slowly turn towards the way the Cops were coming, The exhaustion apparently was clearly visible on his face since the Police were rushing to help him, one being to his surprise the Chief of Police.

Before Jason could stop himself a soft whimper escaped his mouth, he could barley feel his body by now. And even he knew if he wasn't  out of the water soon, there could be trouble.

With the Officers help they were able to get a rowboat which was pushed into the water, the Chief of Police himself got into the boat. His hands grasping the ores before he slowly rowed towards the exhausted Jason, stopping the boat right next to Jason the male dropped the ores before leaning over the boats edge leaning down.

"Come on son easy now" the Chief stated softly, he grunted quietly his arms helping to haul the young man up and out of the water.

Jason was surprised at the mans strength but didn't question it, as he was freezing cold and all he wanted to do was get out of the water. Teeth gritting in discomfort Jason's body trembled the cool air blowing around him prompting the man to gain even more coolness, he had never been this cold before in his life.

Wordlessly the Chief grasped a blanket which he had put in the boat, he gently wrapped it around the males shaking form. Becoming more and more concern as Jason's features started to turn blue, he knew how dangerous Hypothermia was and given this young mans presence he was close to catching it. With another heave Davis pulled the shiver body up against him, taking off his black jacket the chief gently wrapped it around Jason's frame.

Jason's gaze lands upwards, the male looks to be around the age of 40. At least ten or so years before him, although he had no hair on his head Jason wouldn't deny hes an attractive older man. The wrinkles slightly around his eyes show a weariness, one that could only come on by stress. And the clothes he's wearing his Police uniform is old and wrinkled, yet still fits perfectly around the older male. Within seconds the chief felt the male staring at him, his gaze landing downward.

Two eyes meet, one pair which is scared an cold the gaze of almost like a child, the other is concerned.

Grasping the ores the Chief slowly started to row back to shore, Jason pulled the blanket closer against his cold body. Shivers now and then trembling down his spine, he can't help but lean his head against the older mans chest. Whether it be because hes cold or needing the comfort he didn't know, somehow he feels an instant connection with this man. Maybe its just his imagination, maybe its because hes a Police officer.

It took only a matter of moments before the boat hit shore, quietly placing the ores back into the boat. Davis slowly helped Jason get out grasping the young man as his numbing feet almost made him take a nosedive into the ground.

"I gottcha kid".

Jason's cheeks burned in humiliation he could just see the headline news tomorrow, Chief of Police saves dumbass man from drowning. Boy that's one way to get onto front page news, he suddenly felt much older then he really was. His body feeling weary, exhaustion hit as his frame swayed slightly only to be kept upright by his hero.

"Thanks" Jason rasped tiredly, he sniffled a couple of times. No doubt he would catch a cold from this, perfect just perfect.

"Anytime kid".

The evening air was cold and crisp prompting Jason to pull his jacket even closer, humiliation filled his expression as two officers along with the Chief helped him up the dirt slop which with his soggy sneakers seemed impossible to climb. Not only was he gonna be in the news but he was going to be arrested as well, he had at least a beer over what the normal amount would be for driving. He was screwed.

"We want to test him for Alcohol" one officer stated to the Chief, "we think Alcohol might have been involved with this".

Davis felt the young man stiffen indicating it indeed had been the main reason, he silently swore. After all the crap the young man had been through that night, to put him in jail when he could've almost died. Davis made a choice which he knew if anyone found out could get him into a heap of trouble.

"The young man is in shock I will not have him undergo a DUI test" Davis stated firmly, authority in his tone, "ill take the kid home with me make sure he's no injured he could've died tonight".

The Officer opened his mouth to protest.

"You will NOT give him a test do i make myself clear?" Davis snapped his eyes narrowing with irritation.

The Officer quickly snapped his mouth shut nodding wordlessly, receiving a nod the Officer took a couple of the Officers aside whispering something to them who then glanced at there boss nodding.

Huffing in irritation Davis gently steered Jason towards the car, the two men's eyes briefly met before Jason looked away in shame.

"You'll be staying with me tonight" Davis stated gruffly, "and do not argue with me because I'm really not in the mood, i could get myself in big trouble for doing this so be grateful".

Jason slowly went to protest.

"Just get in the damn car kid" Davis snapped, "before i change my mind". Smirking slightly as Jason wordlessly got into the front seat of his Police car, Davis gave a slight look to one of the Officers who nodded knowingly before getting into the front seat.

Starting the car the man drove by the bridge keeping an eye out on what work he would have to call in tomorrow to be done to fix it, after a moment he moved slightly faster as the dirt kicked up behind him.

The truth

"Hey, Hey Kid wake up".

"Hmm?" Jason blinked a couple of times, grumbling quietly as he stretched his back popping at the movement.

Davis noticed Jason's features upturn into a grimace of pain, he didn't miss the weary look in his eyes, or the way his body trembled against his drenched clothes.

"Cm'on" the Cop gestured for Jason to follow him, "lets get you inside before you", Jason sneezed "catch cold" David finished wincing in sympathy.

"To late" Jason chuckled getting on unsteady legs, grasping the door frame he slowly fought back a wave of dizziness as he reached for his backpack.

Following Davis Jason breathed a sigh of relief as a blast of warm air washed over him as they entered the building, rubbing his eyes wearily he followed the cop up two flights of stairs before they reached a door that read 202.

"Come on kid" Davis grasped Jason's shoulder pushing him forward, "go sit down before you fall down".

Forcing back the wave of dizziness Jason stumbled over to the couch, before flopping down onto it. After a few moments Davis came back with a small bundle, he handed it to Jason.

"They might be a bit big, but you can sleep in these tonight" Davis gave Jason a throe look, "based on the bag you have i assume you don't have any Night clothes".

Jason shook his head a small smile crossing his features.

"Thanks" he rasped clearing his throat before trying again, "thanks, I really appreciate all this".

Davis just nodded his lips slightly upturning into a small smile.

"Anytime kid but" Davis gave the man a small glare, "we need to have a talk about what happened tonight".

Jason flinched slightly before nodding he expected that, he should've known better to think that he would get away with running into a bridge and dunking his car into the lake. But that would mean he would have to be honest about Emily and that was a touchy subject as it was, swallowing thickly Jason numbly went to change into dry clothes suddenly not feeling the coolness on his skin.

Watching after Jason an unreadable expression on his face Davis went to the fridge to get a beer pondering the latest events, settling down on the couch he turned the game on before taking a sip of Beer. It was only ten minutes later when Jason emerged from the bathroom dressed in his PJ's, and Davis had been right the clothes were to big way to big it was a humorous site. Davis just snorted hiding a small smile behind his beer, when Jason settled in the car on the far side of the room Davis gazed at him with an raised eyebrow.

"You know you can sit over here I'm off the clock, I'm not gonna be as big of an asshole as i would be at work".

Jason just grinned sheepishly before awkwardly sitting on the couch, on the other side of it sitting as far away from Davis as he could.

With his brow still raised Davis didn't say a word his gaze turning back to the game, during the commercial he turned the TV to mute before turning towards Jason. Jason didn't like the serious look on the mans face.

"We really need to talk about what happened last night" Davis stated putting his beer down on the coffee table with a soft clink, "even though you didn't get into trouble this can't go unpunished, you understand that right? I could lose my job for this?".

"Yes sir" Jason whispered quietly.

"Call me Davis"

"Huh?". Jason glanced up.

"Where not on the clock son, call me Davis".

Yes Davis". Jason whispered his gaze landing on his feet.

"Jason" Davis sighed "you seem like a good kid, you don't seem the type to get into trouble, so why this Jason? What happened tonight?".

Jason's features were scrunched up in pain, his eyes averting from looking at the older man.

"My life" Jason stated slowly, "has started going to shit, a few weeks ago my Fiance someone who I had been dating for 5 years left me at the Altar for my best friend*.

Davis slowly let out a hitched breath, understanding in his eyes.

"I've tried dealing with my pain the best I can". Jason pulled at his socks, "its just it's so hard, I loved her so much, and for my best friend to do this to me, I just I got off work, I work at a Bar and I drank 3 beers, my head was hazy when I drove I guess part of me didn't care if it was dangerous or not, of course I cared about others safety, but really...not my own".

"Kid" Davis breathed out, he was quiet for a second concern and worry shining in his eyes. When Jason wouldn't meet his gaze Davis gently turned the TV off, before moving next to Jason. Settling himself against the arm of the couch he gestured the man over to him,

"C'mere kid" he whispered.

Meeting the Officers eyes Jason felt himself willingly moving towards the older man, he was sick and tired of dealing with all of this by himself. It was starting be become to much to deal on his own, all he wanted was to be comforted, held, told it would be alright. Settling himself in between the mans legs Jason leaned back against the warm chest, the stress of the past weeks events slowly ebbing away in a matter of seconds.

Strong arms wound themselves around Jason making the young man feel safe for the first time in along time, turning on his side he rested his head against Davis's chest his eyes going half lidded. Before he could stop himself a soft yawn emerged from the mans mouth, evening a quiet chuckle from Davis.

Grabbing the blue and black blanket of which had fallen onto the floor, Davis gently wrapped it around Jason. The young man needed as much heat as he could get, he had after all fallen in a icy lake.

"Just relax" Davis soothed his lager fingers limberly working its way through Jason's hair, "believe me kid, love isn't that great, take it from an old man whose been divorced, you will find that special person, hell you seem like a great kid, don't give up hope".

"I just loved her so much" Jason breathed a tear running down his cheek, "I just can't understand why she'd do that to me".

"People can be fucked up kid unfortunately shitty things happen to good people, believe me in the area of my job no one knows that more then me" Davis gave a weary smile, "you wouldn't believe some of the fucked up stuff i've seen".

Jason shifted himself until he was laying on his back, his gaze landed towards Davis.

"How do you do it? everyday, helping so many people?".

"Believe me kid it ain't easy, i've had more then enough times where I thought of giving up the job, I just love helping people, I can't stop doing what I love".

The hand that was running through his hair Jason grasped it lightly, a look of surprise crossed the Chiefs features yet he didn't show any attempt to pull away. Jason offered an encouraging smile his thumb lightly touching the top of his hand, his hand squeezing his in a caring gesture before he dropped it a large yawn escaping his mouth.

"You always were my favorite Chief" Jason mumbled over a yawn, "always looked up to you, this town has never had a Chief like you".

Warmth filled Davis's heart his gaze landing down at Jason who was barley awake, his large hand cupped Jason's cheek his warm hand touching the cool skin. The pads of his thumb moved in a circular motion rubbing the outer layer of his cheek, the cheek pressed
further into the touch craving the warm contact.

"Mmm" Jason leaned further into the touch, the feel so soothing yet exciting at the same time, it was hard to believe he just met the man. It felt like he had known him forever.

Davis glanced at his watch it was nearing midnight and although he had off tomorrow the kid needed sleep, this kid had been through an emotional ordeal and the best thing for him right now was rest. Against his better judgement he couldn't let Jason sleep on the
couch but to sleep in the bed with him, Davis bite his lip slightly could lead Jason on to more. Not that he wouldn't be willing to have..no he mustent think like that, the kid was only 28. He was 45 years old, shaking his head Davis wearily sighed.

"Its nearing midnight" Davis whispered his fingers lightly playing with Jason's hair, "and since you're sick i don't want you sleeping on the couch, you can take my bed, this body has seen its couch days I'm pretty used to it".

"No no" Jason stated quickly "i don't want the put you out in you're own home, the couch is fine" he bit his tongue not wanting to admit he had been having nightmares this past week.

Davis just eyed the male for a moment his Police senses were going off, there was just something about this that wasn't right. He recognized the far off gaze in the mans eyes, it's something of which happened to him way back when. Back when he started to..., realization hit Davis. The kid had nightmares.

Despite his better judgment Davis knew what he had to do.

"The bed is big enough" Davis stated slowly, "for two people...since we both don't want the other to sleep on the couch, we could" he drawled off unsure.

"Share?" Jason finished.

Davis nodded.

"Yeah that's fine" Jason offered a small smile, the two gazed each other for a moment before each glancing away. Unaware of each other blushing.

"Anyway" Davis cleared his throat, "its getting late I have off tomorrow but you're sick and need rest and don't argue with me" Davis stated glaring at Jason who was about to protest.

"I'm not sick!" just as Jason said this he let out 2 sneezes.

"You were saying?". Davis smirked.

"Alright alright you win" Jason mumbled standing up, ignoring the grinning smirk from the Chief he headed towards the bedroom Davis right behind him.
