A new world

The room was scolded with blinding light that seemed to reflect off of the long white walls. The room was over one hundred feet long and filled with beds cramped together at either side. Everything was white; the walls, the floor, the ceiling, the beds- even the girl occupying one of the beds. She was only 23 years old and yet she lay motionless on top of the crisp, white sheets, her arms firmly by her sides and her hand branded by foreign markings burned into her, greatly contrasting with her skin. She was so thin you could see all her bones prominently and count each of her individual ribs. Her skin was still young but was a ghostly shade of pale. Her auburn hair lay soft and freely over her shoulders in straight unison. Her body was dressed in a simple, black gown, one resembling a t-shirt that ended just about her knee but was still far too big for her. Her legs lay stretched out in front of her on the bed, like the rest of her skin they were frightfully slim and snow white. The only indication of life coming from the girl was the very slow, very faint rise and fall of her bony chest. The movement was so weak you couldn't possibly notice it upon first glance. She looked dead or at least close to death.

Her breathing increased rapidly and her body began to stir. Perspiration formed on her pale forehead and soon she was thrashing around on the bed in the empty room. As she did so she let out strange sounds and groans, sounding animalistic in origin. it sounded almost as if she was in pain or being tortured physically in her sleep. Her fists were clenched and her eyes tightly shut, as if to block out any unwanted light, or keep in any unwanted dreams. She finally lost her battle with her mind and sat bolt upright screaming. Her eyes were now wide open to reveal the shiny, black pool of emptiness she tried to keep hidden. Her teeth were inhuman, bright white with four fangs, two on the top and two below. As she desperately gasped for breath, trying to wipe her mind of the tortures she endured, one of her fangs scrapped against her bottom lip, piercing the delicate pink skin. Blood slowly ran down her lip to her chin in an attempt to escape her tainted body. This then dripped onto the purity of the white sheets, staining it with her DNA forever. She leapt off the bed and ran straight for the door, not fearing what might be waiting on the other side, anything would be better than the torment her dreams threw at her. As she opened the metal doors she felt a strong, stinging sensation course through her veins. Fear slashed at her heart like a knife and she soon succumbed to darkness.

Her eyes fluttered open as her limp body hit the cold and unforgiving metal floor. She felt disorientated and confused. She tried to stand but was forced down by the abrupt movement of her unknown room. She was afraid and had no idea who she was. She looked around to try to make out her new surroundings, but saw nothing but the darkness. She felt her way around and found she was in a very small and isolated metal cell, and it was on the move. Her heart thumped against her rib cage as she sat in the swirling darkness with her knees tucked up to her chin and her frail arms wrapped around them. She heard strange sounds and then she heard voices. Not familiar voices but she could still understand them never the less.

"First reject of the lot, boss says!" spoke one of the voices. " 'Avent ever had a reject before!" Reject? She thought to herself. Reject from what?

"Leave her to die! Bloody risky! Someone could find her, I mean it!" said the other "Shoot her point blank I say, save us the petrol and the effort" spoke the other voice both clearly belong to men since they were deep and croaky. 'Die'. The word circled around her head and made her blood run cold. She felt nauseous and tuned out the rest of the conversation as she rested her head against the cold metal wall. Reject. Die. I don't understand, she thought to herself. I don't even know who I am. She let out a small sigh as she realised how lost she truly was. Not just physically, but mentally as well. If she didn't know who she was, how could they? Who did know? Who could tell her and explain everything to her? She sighed again and closed her eyes.

Light flooded into her cell in a giant wave, her eyes tried to adjust to the sudden harsh light that was thrust upon her. She was in some form of vehicle, like a van made of matte white metal, and the doors had just been wrenched open. As she began putting the pieces together, her inability to stand, the men's conversations and her own situation, two sets of strong hands grabbed her by the tops of her arms and dragged her from the van. She kicked her legs, thrashed around and screamed in protest, but in vain. As her soft face made contact with the earth, she heard the sound of a revving engine and the vehicle speed away quickly leaving her alone, lost and afraid.

She lay on the ground, trying her best to piece together all the events with her fragile and shattered mind. Willing herself to move as she dragged her weak and feeble body to a standing position. Her mind felt dazed and the world spun around her. Trembling from the fear that coursed through her veins; her skinny and shaking form resembled that of a frightened deer. Weak, scared and lost. They sky was burning red with brown and grey clouds littering the view of the extraordinary crimson atmosphere. The ground was made up of dust and dirt with the occasional brick scattered around. Not a flower was in sight and the ground was bone dry, not even slightly resembling the images her mind had programmed in for the outside world to look like.

It was supposed to be beautiful, with green grass and blue skies with white fluffy clouds. Instead, she saw only the vast wasteland before her. In the distance she saw what seemed to be the ruins of an old town but that was only in view due to her severely heightened senses. She heard only the wind ruffle through her hair and could smell nothing of significant value. The girls eyes were no longer black and empty. Now they were swirling pools of blue, swimming with emotions, flashing with the fear and confusion of herself and her surroundings. She turned on the spot, searching for any indication of life. When nothing surfaced she slumped to the floor on her knees and held her aching head in her hands. She ran her slender fingers through her autumn hair and let them fall limply in her lap. As the sun resurfaced from behind the murky clouds, she raised her right hand to block out the bright light. That's when she saw it. Branded on the back of her hand, by what could only be a hot iron used to branding cattle, were foreign markings inside a rectangular box. She examined the markings branded into her skin. She used her index finger on her left hand and swept it across the marks, parts of the un-identifiable markings glowed with a turquoise light and she could then make out the number 626 on her pale skin.
