Chapter 1

Hoofs clattering and the whistling of wind were the only sounds the Navarro twins could hear as they raced to the top of a hill a mile away from where there home was. Their black-brown hair whipped around like a cape while their heartbeats were in sync with their horses.

A tall hill with a narra tree came into view as they urged their horses to go faster. The sister on the pure black thoroughbred got the lead and reached the narra tree first. Her horse neighed in victory and stomped its front hooves as the rider turned to her sister.

Kamaria turned to her sister as she dismounted from her black horse, Itim. Her sister, Sethunya, just sighed as she dismounted as well and let her white thoroughbred, Puti, to graze with her brother.

“You two are so merciless when it comes to competition,” Sethunya said as she and her sister sat down in the grass. “Give me and Puti a break, Kama.”

Kamaria, or Kama, shrugged. “It won’t be fun if we hold back, Seth. If you want to win, try harder.”

“Oh, whatever,” Seth said in annoyance, though a smile was on her face. Then she looked over to the horses and frowned.

Kama, immediately seeing the frown, sighed. “Don’t worry, Seth. They won’t arrive at the same time but they will be in Stoicheo a few days after we get settled in.”

Seth looked at her. “That’s not what I’m worried about. It’s the mission. We’re suddenly leaving Psych for Geo. Who knows how long we’ll be there and what we’ll face. It’s driving me nuts!”

Seth fell on her back, her arms on either side of her head and her lips in a small pout. Kama shook her head at her expression.

“That, I understand but you shouldn’t be craving for more answers when it’s probably best to not know them until the time comes. At least we know what kind of mission this is so we have to be careful.”

Kama shifted her view, metallic silver orbs clashed with bronze specks now staring at the horizon.

Seth followed her gaze and smiled. Her golden eyes, dotted with grass green specks, softened into relaxation. “I might as well enjoy this view while we’re still here.”

Her short-haired, tomboyish sister just hummed and closed her eyes, a faint smile creeping up in her lips. She knew as well as her sister that everything is going to fall apart into chaos.

And there is nothing they can do to stop it unless they finish their mission.
