I

The sun rose in the east, as per usual over the lush land of Britannica. In the small hut in the woods, Insomnia, the Witch of Tricks, woke from her nightly slumber. She rubbed the grogginess from her red eyes as she stretched her arms up and climbed from her bed. She let out a yawn as she started the fire beneath her cast-iron cauldron. Insomnia was known to say nothing, so aside from the occasional noise, no one has heard her true voice and lived to describe it. Not that she killed them, she's just never had to the need to speak with anyone. Most likely the reason being she might accidentally say an incantation or curse someone. Curious, right? She fears the thought of accidentally cursing or killing someone accidentally, which is also why she lived alone in her hut in the middle of a wooded lowland swamp. While the water in the cauldron began to boil, she wandered over to her bookshelf and began to browse through her favourite anthology, stories of women and young ladies with extraordinary talents. She often wondered if she was the only one like her, or if there were other girls out there with abilities and powers. Tales of great witches, they were known, from foreign lands as Versailles, the Holy Empire, and even faraway lands such as Serabia and Edo.

The water finally boiled in the cauldron and Insomnia set her book down as she began to gather supplies from her shelves and chests and she began to concoct a spellbinding mixture. As she added herbal spices and animal parts there were puffs and boils and colour changes to the potion. In between items thrown in, she wrote down on a piece of parchment what she was doing. She stirred and stirred as the potion began to take on a purple hue and when she was sure the spices had fully dissolved and the animal parts were done breaking down from the acidity, she let it simmer for about 10 minutes as she continued her book. Once her hut was filled with an aroma that was a spicy-sweet, she took a tool that held her glass vials and dipped them into the cauldron to fill them up. By the time she finished, she had about 40 vials of this new potion that she placed into a chest with all of her other potions, but she kept one to see what it would do. She thought for a moment, then grabbed a couple more vials and stuck them in a leather pouch she kept tied around her waist. Grabbing her enchanted broom, she sat down to the side, so as to not have the broom handle between her legs, as it was uncomfortable for her, and she began to fly westward.
