Peaceful Souls

She sat in a hospital bed. Her left eye covered by bandages as well as bandages all over the rest of her body. She was hooked up to a heartbeat monitor which beeped steadily. She held a stuffed doll in her arms tightly. It was colored blue and white with a somewhat creepy grin sewed on it’s face. She stared blankly to the other side of the room, only looking away for a moment when someone walked into the room.

“You’re vitals seem fine Bonnie.” The Doctor said.

“I can’t move my legs.” Bonnie replied.

“Well…” The doctor walked out of the room. She could hear his words slightly from the other side. “How do I tell a Nine year old girl that she’s never going to walk again?”

“Do you remember?” A somewhat nasally voice said.

She looked down to her stuffed doll which was now looking up at her.

“No… I can’t remember anything.”

“If you can’t remember, you can’t have peace.”

“I’m trying.”

The doctor walked in.

“Bonnie, who are you talking to?”

“Mr. BB.” She replied.

“Come on Bonnie. You know just as well as I do that BB is not real.”

“Shut up!” She screamed. “Mr. BB is my best friend!”

“BB is a stuffed Toy.”

“SHUT UP!” She screamed at the top of her lungs.

The doctor took a deep breath and walked out of the room.

“Don’t let him get to you.” BB said. “He’s not important right now anyways. Right now you just have to remember what happened.”

“What if I don’t want to remember?” Bonnie asked.

“If you don’t then you won’t find your peace… Please Bonnie, Let me help you.”

She paused. “Okay.”

“Good. Now where do we start?”

Bonnie hung her head low and her eyes darkened.

………

“Bonnie…” A woman’s voice called out.

Bonnie opened her eyes lying in her bed. She smiled and sat up.
“Happy birthday sweetie.” The woman said leaning over her bed. She was in her room.

“Thanks Mommy.” Bonnie said with a smile.

Bonnie hopped out of the bed and began to run off to the living room. Her mother caught her before she could go any further.
“Come on, Let’s get you dressed first.”

Bonnie got dressed and afterward her mother brought her out of her room. Her father sat in the living room along with her baby brother, Berry.

“Good Morning sweetheart.” Her father said with a smile. “Happy Ninth Birthday.”

“Thanks Daddy.” She said as she hugged him. “When do I get to open my present?”

“Be patient. Kevin isn’t even here yet.”

Bonnie jumped. “Kevin’s coming!?”

“Yes, Kevin is coming.” Her father nodded.

She jumped up, cheering.

About an hour passed with Bonnie watching cartoons out in the living room. After that hour passed, there was a knock on their front door.

The mother opened the door and on the other side was a small boy, the same age as Bonnie, with a fat man standing behind him.

“Hey Nick. Come on in.” Bonnie’s father said. He looked at the young by. “Kevin, Bonnie’s over on the sofa there.”

Kevin nodded and ran over to Bonnie and sat next to her.
“Hi Bunny.” Kevin said.

“Hi Kevin!” Bonnie hugged him. “Can I open my present now?” She looked to her parents.

Her mother smirked and went to her room, She returned soon after carrying a box that was wrapped up.

She placed the box on Bonnie’s lap.

Bonnie smiled as she opened the box. She pulled out a medium sized Plush toy. It was colored blue and white with button eyes that weren’t the same size as one another, as well as a creepy smile.

The mother took a step back upon seeing it. She quickly grabbed the father and pulled him outside.

“What the hell is that thing!?” She asked.
“I don’t know, That’s not what I bought.” He scratched his head. “I bought her a stuffed rabbit, not… Whatever that thing is.”

Bonnie ran outside the them and hugged them both tightly. “Thank you! I love Him.”

The mother looked at the father. “Well… She likes it.” She said.

“His name is Mr. BB.”

“Mr. BB?” Her father said. “That… An interesting name. What made you think of that?”

“He told me it.” Bonnie said.

The father and mother exchanged looks. “Kids and their imaginations…” The mother said. “Why don’t… You and Mr. BB go play with Kevin?”

“Okay.” She nodded. With a smile she ran off back into the house to Kevin.

“Kevin, let’s go play outside!” She shouted.

“Sure.” Kevin said. “Then I can show you the present me and my dad got you.”

She smiled and dragged him out to their back yard.

The parents came back into the house.

“So what was that thing you got Bonnie?” Nick asked.

“I don’t know.” The father said. “It’s not what I bought her.”
“Well, she seems to love it either way.” Nick looked toward the back door where Bonnie and Kevin had both ran outside.

“Yeah, I’m surprised that didn’t scare her.” The mother said.

Bonnie and Kevin were now outside, running around. Bonnie held onto Mr. BB closely as they all played together.

A man walked out of the house next to Bonnie’s house. His name was Jacob Hurt, Bonnie’s neighbour.

He looked over to see them playing.

“Hello Bonnie, Kevin.”

“Hi Mr. Hurt!” Bonnie said.

Bonnie and Kevin ran over to him.

“Happy Birthday Bonnie.” Jacob said with a smile.

“Do you have a present for me too!?” Bonnie jumped a bit.

“Why, sure. Come on in, I’ll give it to you.”

Bonnie and Kevin followed Jacob into his house.

He poured some lemonade.

“Here, I’ll go get your present. Have some Lemonade until I come back.”

“Thanks, Mr. Hurt.”

Bonnie drank the lemonade and gave some to Kevin.

She waited for three minutes until she started to feel sleepy. Her eyes were heavy and she yawned. Kevin was doing the same. In no time at all, They both fell over, asleep.

………

“Do you remember now?” BB asked.

“Some of it.” Bonnie lifted her head.

The door to the hospital room opened slowly, and her father came in.

“Bonnie… Are you okay?” He said.

“I can’t feel my legs.” Bonnie replied.

He looked away with tears in his eyes.

“Honey, You’re…” He took a deep breath. “You’re never going to walk again?”

“Why?”

“Because…” He shook his head as more tears fell in his eyes. As his tears fell down his face, he ran out of the room.

“Why does everyone say I won’t walk anymore? It’s easy, I just have to get up.”

She moved her body, but her legs wouldn’t move.

“I guess you still don’t remember then?” BB asked.

“No, I don’t. Not all of it.”

“Then, let’s remember some more together. Okay?”

“Okay.” She nodded and tilted her head down once more.

………

Bonnie woke up in a dark room. She looked around with tears in her eyes.

“Where am I?” She asked. “I can’t see anything.”

She moved to find that her wrist was cuffed to something.

“Kevin? Mr. BB?” She called out.

“I’m here Bonnie.” A nasally sounding voice said.

“Mr. BB?” She said.

“Yes, It’s me. You need to be quiet.”

“Okay…” She said with a lowered voice.

“Now, you won’t be able to see. But you can lift the other side of the handcuffs, off of the bed frame.”

Bonnie felt around until she got to the other cuff. She lifted it and it came off of the frame of the bed she was on.

“Where’s Kevin?” She asked.

“Last I saw of him, Jacob was taking him to another room.”

“Where is Mr. Hurt?”

“Somewhere in the house. I heard him talking on the phone with someone. He was talking about children and prices.”

They heard a knock on the front door of the house.

“Change of plans, put the cuff back on the bed frame and pretend to still be asleep.”

Tears flowed in her eyes as she put the cuff back on the bed frame. She took heavy breaths and laid down, pretending to still be knocked out.

The door to the room she was in opened and two men walked inside.

“Here you go.” Jacob said. “She’s right there. Now that’ll be five thousand bucks like you promised.”

“Wait.” The other man said as he walked into the room.

His eyes fell on BB.

“This thing…” He narrowed his eyes. “What is it?”

Jacob walked in further. “I… don’t know. She was holding it earlier, but I thought I left it in the kitchen.”

“Doesn’t matter. I’ll be taking the girl, you can throw the doll in the trash for all I care.”

They heard a knocking at the front door.

“I’ll go see who that is.” Jacob said.

Jacob left the room and went to the door. Bonnie’s parents stood on the other side.

“Jacob, have you seen Bonnie and Kevin anywhere?” The mother asked.

“I’m sorry, I can’t say I have.” Jacob said.

“They probably just wandered off on their own.” The father said.

“I hope you’re right… This is why we should have gotten her a phone.” The mother said as she walked off.

“Thank you for your time.” The father said as he walked with her.

Jacob returned to the room to see the man putting the cuff on the bed frame on her other hand.

“I’d like that money first.”

“Of course.” The man gave Jacob an envelope. He picked up Bonnie.

Bonnie opened her eyes and went to bit the man on the jaw.

He shouted in pain and dropped Bonnie.

“Little bitch!” The man stomped on her stomach.

Bonnie grunted in pain and cried.

He opened her mouth and forced a pill down her throat, causing her to swallow it.

She grew tired once again and eventually passed out.

………

Bonnie lifted her head once again. Her eyes in tears.

“I don’t want to remember more…” She said.

“You HAVE to!” BB said. “I want you to be happy, and if you don’t remember, you won’t be happy, trust me Bonnie, I know what I’m talking about.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure.”

“Okay…” She wiped the tears from her eyes.

A man walked into the room, This man being Nick, Kevin’s father.

“Bonnie… I heard everything.” He said.

“Where’s Kevin?” She asked.

“We… don’t know.” He said.
“Maybe he should check Mr. Hurt’s house.” BB said.

“Why?” Bonnie asked BB.

“I don’t know why.” Nick said, thinking she spoke to him.

“Think Bonnie.” BB said.

“Oh… Yeah…” She looked up at Nick. “You should check Mr. Hurt’s house.”

“Why there?”

“Just do it.” SHe looked down.

Nick looked to the side to think for a moment. He nodded his head and left the room.

“So Bonnie, Should we resume.” BB asked.

“Sure.” She said as she lowered her head.

………

Bonnie was stuffed inside of a small cage. She had little to no light, but she could hear a few voices talking.

“Have you put her collar on yet?” A voice said.

“No, not yet. I haven’t had the chance.” Another voice said.

“Well you have until tomorrow, that’s when her match is.”

“Who am I going up against?”

“Andrew, but don’t worry, he never actually wins a match.” The man laughed.

“Where’s Mr. BB?” She asked herself quietly.

She could hear footsteps leaving the room.

“Hello?” She called out. “Where am I?”

She looked out the cracks of the cage to see someone’s legs appear. The man in front of her bent down and showed himself to be an old man.

“Hi little girl. I’m Drew, and I’m going to get you out of here.” He said.

“Hello Drew… Where am I?”

“You’re at a Dark Arena, You’re scheduled to fight tomorrow, but I’m not about to let a little girl fight to the death.”

“Thank you…” She said.

Drew unlocked the door to the cage and let her out.

“You’re on the top floor right now, you’ll have to go down. This building only has two stories. Do you understand?”

“Yes.” She nodded.

“Okay, then go, And don’t get caught.”

She ran off without saying a word. She came to a stairwell, with one flight of stairs going down and another going up. She went to go down but heard footsteps coming her way. She took the stairs up and was brought to the roof of the building.

She ran to the edge of the roof which looked over the small town where she lived.

The door to the roof opened quickly and two men ran through. “I heard something come up here.” one of them said.

“Over there!” The other man shouted.

“How’d you get out of your cage!?”

She gasped and stood on the railing. “Get away!” Bonnie screamed.

“Shit, she’s going to jump.” One of the men said.

“Get down from there you little bitch!” The man jumped at her.

He Grabbed her trying to get her down.

“Let go of me!” She screamed and squirmed.

She managed to loosen his grip. She fell on her side against the railing and over the side. She began falling down the side of the building. Time seemed to slow around her. Tears fell from her eyes as she fell. She closed her eyes and soon enough, her back hit the ground below.

………

Bonnie opened her eyes. She laid back with tears in her eyes. “I remember…”

“Good. You’ll be able to rest peacefully with having the closure of knowing what happened. Which will make the Jump all the easier. Technically, I could still make the jump without you remembering this… But if you know what brought you to your death in the first place… It’ll be so much easier.”

“What Jump?” Bonnie said with her eyes getting heavy. The beeps on the heart monitor were getting further and further apart.”

The door opened again. Her Father and Mother came in. “Bonnie, they found Kevin…” Her father said. “Well… They found his body.”

“Kevin is dead…” Bonnie said.

Her mother jumped.

“When did she learn about Mortality?” She asked.

“I’ll be dead soon too.”

“Bonnie, don’t say that.” Her mother said.

Bonnie closed her eyes and flatlined.

The mother put her hand to her mouth and teared up.

“No… No not my baby! No…” She fell to her knees and broke down into tears.

“Good, the jump can be made now.” BB said.

The blue and white doll that BB was faded away into a stuffed rabbit, turning the doll into a wisp.

The wisp entered Bonnie through her mouth.

The heart monitor started to beep once again and BB opened the eyes of his new body.

“I’m okay Mom.” He said in Bonnie’s voice.

The mother jumped. “Oh my god… Bonnie! ”She rushed over and Hugged BB. “I’m so happy you’re okay.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be around for a long time.” He hugged her back as a wicked smile formed on his new face.
