Eternal Ashes

This city of ashes

Falls around me

Its black char walls

Crumble at my feet

It's abandoned of life

No light exists

The sun isn't shining

I just can't resist

I reach out my hand

To that empty city

I touch the ashes

It feels so empty

Drawing back my hand

My soul is coated black

The silence is deafening

But there's no turning back

I turn my eyes to the horizon

The space is void of light

This poor city of ashes

Bathed in eternal night

2: Diamond Tears
Diamond Tears

The moon sparkles down on me

As I dance through the rain.

The drops of diamonds hide

The tears I cry in pain.

But the pain vanishes

When I pour out my heart

To the Father up in heaven

Who knew me from the start.

So I'm content to stand

In the chilling rain

Because the diamond tears I cry

Are never truly in vain.

The Father puts me in his hand

And guards my heart so close.

He looks upon me with loving eyes

As if I am a rose.

So I dance in the rain

With the moon shining so bright

Because I know my Father's there

And can set all things right.

3: Candlelight Angel
Candlelight Angel

A glimmer of hope lights her eyes

As she gazes into the flame that night

She begs the flame to grow in size

So she feels the comfort it lights inside

The flame flickers and casts a shadow on the angel's face

She hears the voice of doubt and pain

Quick as a flash her hope is gone

The candle flickers and her happiness dims

The voice is yelling, screaming her name

Saying she's worthless as if it's a game

Calling her helpless, hopeless, a shame

Crying because it says she's to blame

The voice leaves the angel in her anguish and pain

She closes her eyes to forget the names

A single tear, so bitter sweet

Falls upon the angel's cheek

She opens her eyes, so deep and blue

To see the flame still glowing true

She smiles a little for her hope ignites

While she keeps her candlelight vigil throughout the night

4: A Flight To Remember
A Flight To Remember

I hand the girl my ticket

Hop on that airplane

I sit down in my isle seat

Ignoring the people around me

I hear a sniffle and turn

There's a girl with a weary face

She's sitting by the window

Staring off into outer space

I try to ignore her sniffles

I try to ignore her cries

But as the plane takes off

I begin to realize

I turn to the child

And ask her what's wrong

She looks at me and cries

'It's been so long'

I ask her what she means

And she just laughs quietly

She begins to tell me

Her sad, sad story

She came from an empty home

Where no one seemed to love her

She always felt so alone

She felt she didn't matter

Her daddy died when she was young

Her mommy never seemed to get better

Her brother left a few years back

Her friends were all fair-weathered

Her whole family seemed shattered

Her world just fell apart

So she left her family behind

And looked for a new start

She hopped on board the first flight

She cried a little but knew it was best

She didn't care to look back

She said she couldn't care less

But looking in that lost soul's eyes

I saw a girl desperate for hope

I saw a child tired of lies

I saw a woman trying to cope

I asked her for her age

She told me 'seventeen'

I remembered those years

Those days could be mean

I gave her a hug

Though stranger I may be

I told her I understood

She didn't believe me

And sitting there with that stranger

I told her my beginning

I knew she wouldn't judge

I guess it was just a feeling

She listened with an open heart

She didn't interrupt my account

Halfway through that flight

She listened to my life's amount

My life was perfect

But only from the outside

My family was loving

But only on the inside

I got tired of the pain

I had run away from home

I had jumped on a flight much like her

Only to find I didn't like being alone

She took my words to heart

And seemed to ponder what I'd said

She looked out the window deep in thought

And then shook her head

'What am I doing?' she asked

'I don't belong here.'

Then she pulled out her phone

And bought a ticket back to home

I smiled at her warmly

As the plane touched down to earth

Then left her there to find

Her way back to her hearth

You see, my listeners,

Home isn't where your family lies

Instead it's where your heart is

And that never truly dies

So argue with your mother

Have fights with your father

But remember to return home

Because that's where you belong

5: Silly Little Gossip Queen
Silly Little Gossip Queen

Silly little gossip queen,

How oblivious can you be?

See the girl over there?

She hates her body, hates her hair.

Look at her smiling wide.

She wears a mask used to hide.

See the boy dressed in black?

His family hates him, he hates them back.

See the girl wearing long sleeves?

She has scars the cuts do leave.

But you're a silly little gossip queen,

So you're oblivious as can be.
