The Dark Side of the Moon

The Dark Side of the Moon

Wally was a small boy who lived in a very dark place, and he was all alone. He didn't know how he had gotten there or when or why. All Wally knew was that, wherever he was, it was very dark, and rocky, and cold. So very, very cold. Every night before he went to sleep, he would look at the lights in the sky, not quite knowing what they where, but loving them as his only source of light in a very dark place. One day, when Wally had been fed up with looking at the boring, cold rocks that surrounded him, he started to walk across his home to see how far he could go. There were a lot of rocks around where Wally lived, so it was hard, but he kept on walking. All at once though, the sky around him seemed to get lighter, as if illuminated by a great fire. Wally kept walking until he came across a large mound of rock. He walked halfway around the rock and was immediately was mystified. On the other side of the rock was a large blue and green spherical object misted with white. It was beautiful. But what was even more beautiful was the gigantic ball of fire on the other side. Wally made the mistake of looking at it, and when he ran to the other side of the rock he noticed that his entire body was alive with pain. He looked down at his arms and legs and saw that they were completely red, as if they were on fire. He ran all the way back home. Wally thought about the light and thought about how nice it would be to live there. But deep down he knew that he would never be able to look upon the light or the floating green and blue orb again, let alone live in it. He lived in the dark, he was born in the dark, it was all he knew. He also knew the light would surely kill him. And he cried. He cried for the loss of the light. He cried because it wasn't fair. He almost wished he hadn't seen it. And he cried because he wanted to tell someone besides the stars about its beauty, hoping that, expressing it might make the pain less intense. But Wally knew that he would find no one to tell about what he had seen that day and he cried. He cried because it's very lonely on the dark side of the moon.
