Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I hummed in pleasure as I soared through the sky. The blue fingered my wings and back while the green stared at me in envy. My ruby red scales glistened against the sun as I titled to the left towards the mountains.

“Jellal!” I bellowed as I landed at the mount of the cave. “I brought back a sheep.” I heard a squeak and something fidgeting to the back of the cave. I sighed.

“Come out little one,” I murmured. “I won’t hurt you.”

The scrambling stopped so I lifted my head and lit a torch hanging from the roof of the cave.

“Oh Bright One.” I murmured. “What has he gone and done know?”

Huddled in the back of the cave sat a beautiful female human in a blue dress and a band of gold resting on her brow, setting the sheep to the side of the cave, I sat down and peered closely at her.

“What is your name?” I asked quietly so my voice wouldn’t hurt her hears.

“Princess Vestria of Suten.” She sobbed. “Please don’t hurt me.”

“I promise I won’t. Neither will the dragon who brought you here.”

For some reason that made the girl cry harder, almost like she thought she could escape if there was only one dragon.”

“When Jellal gets back,” I thought. “I’m going to kill him.”

Ignoring the girl, I picked the sheep back up and carried it through an opening to the left of the cave where there was a large fire pit. Using my bright yellow talons, I cut away the fur and gutted it. Once I finished eating the innards, I placed the meat in the pit and used my flames to slowly cook it. After a time I finally heard the princess’ tears stop and I carried the cooked meat back to her.

“Eat.” I said placing the sheep in front of her. “I’m sorry it’s not more presentable.”

Vestria didn’t answer, she just crawled to the meat and tore off a chunk.

“When you’re done eating there is a small pool over there.” I pointed with my tail to another opening. “Good, clean yourself up. I’ll make sure that you are not disturbed.”

“Thank you…”

“Dashi.” I put in.

“Thank you Dashi.”

I dipped my head and she rushed through the opening. A few moments later, I heard a splash and the princess yelped. Sighing heavily, I ate the rest of the sheep and curled up in front of the pool opening.

“I can’t believe he would be so pigheaded.” I thought as I drifted off to sleep. “He doesn’t need another toy.”

“Dashi! Dashi!” A voice called out, sounding loud and quiet at the same time.

Grunting, I lifted my serpentine head and looked behind me. The human princess looked back at me with sad blue eyes. Her chocolate brown hair was wet and her dress clung to her body.

“Dashi, will you please let me out?”

“Of course.” I lifted my large body and stepped to the side.

“Thank you.” She scuttled to the back of the cave and sat down.

Since I was up, I stepped out of the cave into the sun so that it’s rays would warm my scales. When the sun began to set, I started to worry about Jellal and considered looking for him when I saw him and his dark blue scales circling above me. He carried a large bundle of blankets, clothes, and other things that a human would need which he set to the side as he landed in front of me.

“Hello my jewel.” He murmured while nuzzling my neck.

I hummed and nuzzled him back. “Don’t think that will get you out of trouble.”

Jellal sighed and looked at me.

“I’m sorry.” He whispered.

“Jellal you know that I tolerate your fascination with the humans but this one is different. She is not a commoner who was beaten by her father or husband. She is human royalty. The humans will notice she is gone and will search for her. There could be a war.”

“They were going to force her into a marriage she didn’t want.” He countered.

I roared in exasperation. “They have done that since they arrived at this land. What makes her any different?”

My mate fidgeted. “She was crying.”

I roared again but it was with less anger behind it.

“One month,” I said. “She can stay for one month to recover but then you have to take her back.”

“Very well.” He bowed his head.

“I’m going to see if I can find an elk since you didn’t bring anything to eat.” I scolded as I opened my wings and took off into the sky.
