Chapter 1: Beginnings

My Name is Mac Fearson, I am fourteen years old.

It was an ordinary day in Ballwood city my classmates and I were attending a field trip at a science facility.

Our teacher thought that our trip would set a good example for our future generation. I was a little unsure about what to do with my life.

The head scientist decided to give us a tour guide around the facility.

"Feel free to take notes if you like." He said.

We went through different areas in the facility while observing various creations. We then entered a lab and saw two lab assistants working on a solar generator.

"What are they building?" I asked.

The head scientist turned to me.

"They are working on a solar powered generator that provides heat and electricity."

While we were watching the lab assistants work, the machine made a buzzing sound causing us to flinch.

One of the lab assistants tried to turn the generator off but to no avail.

"What's going on?" asked the head scientist.

"I don't know, the generator's not working." One of the lab assistants said.

The buzzing noise grew louder forcing us to cover our ears. Blue smoke began rising out of the generator causing us to take a few steps back.

Upon seeing the smoke, the head scientist quickly ran over to an intercom.

"Code red, I repeat code red! Everyone evacuate the building immediately!"

We all ran through the building along with more people. As I kept running I suddenly fell to the floor.

Everyone ran past me as I got up and saw that my shoe laces were untied.

"You've got to be kidding me." I groaned as I quickly tied my shoe laces and kept running.

I saw the others run through an emergency exit door I tried to open it but for some reason it was stuck.

"Come on, open." I said as I pushed harder.

The blue smoke got closer as I started panicking.

"Help, I'm stuck!" I yelled as I pounded on the door.

The smoke surrounded me as I started coughing until I fell to the floor and passed out.

Two hours later:

I woke up to the sound of a heart monitor and looked around.

"What...what happened? Where am I?" I asked to no one in particular.

I heard the sound of a door opening and saw Dr. Kurtzmen come in.

"I'm glad to see that you're awake, Mac." He said.

"How did I get here?" I asked as I sat up in bed.

"I was told that you were found lying unconscious in the facility filled with blue smoke. Apparently, your body seems to be fine despite the fact that you inhaled the smoke." Kurtzmen explained.

"So I have strange smoke inside me and I'm okay, weird." I said inside my head.

"I've also heard that another student was found unconscious in a different area in the facility." Kurtzmen said.

"Who was it? I asked.

"Your teacher, Dr. Hare told me that his name was Ryan Miller. He got checked into this hospital before you came here." Kurtuzmen explained.

The telephone rang as Kurtuzmen answered it.

"Hello this is Dr. Kurtzmen speaking. Yes Mac and Ryan are okay. Alright, they'll meet you outside." He said as he hung up.

"Dr. Hare is waiting for you outside, go get Ryan in room nine and head for the bus." Kurtzmen said.

"Alright, thanks for the help." I said with a smile.

"No problem." Kurtzmen said as I walked out the door.

Room nine:

I walked into Room nine and saw Ryan sitting on the bed.

"Hi." I said as he looked at me.

"Hey, who are you?" He asked as he stood up.

"My name's Mac, I was told that your name was Ryan. Dr. Hare is wants us to meet her outside so we can leave." I said.

"Alright, let's go." Ryan said as we left Room nine.

A short while later: Hospital parking lot

We sat on the bus chatting with each other as the bus rode through traffic.

"So how did you end up in the hospital?" I asked.

"While I was following the tour, I saw a blocked off lab room. I got curious and went inside. The room had a large plasma ray in it. Before I could look any further I heard someone coming. I panicked and accidentally turned on the plasma ray causing it to zap me. I fell unconscious and ended up in the hospital." Ryan explained.

"Dude, why would you go into a room that says off limits?" I asked with my eyelids half closed.

"I was curious, okay!" Ryan protested.

I smirked.

"You do know that curiosity kills the cat."

"Alright, wise guy you tell me how you ended up at the doctor's." Ryan said with a smirk.

"An experiment went wrong causing blue smoke to spread all over the facility. I tried to escape, but I passed out after inhaling the smoke." I explained.

"Weird. Do you think that something might happen to us?" Ryan asked with slight worry.

"I hope not. You know what let's just forget about what happened and move on." I said.

"Good idea." Ryan said.

Later at Brookyslye High/main hallway

Ryan and I were standing in the hallway talking.

"So what do you want to do after school?" asked Ryan.

"I don't know, hang out I guess?" I said with a shrug.

"Then it's settled, we meet up after school." Ryan said.

Afterwards the bell rang which was our cue to get to class.

"I'm heading off." I said.

"Alright, see you later." Ryan said as I walked away.

Once I was out of sight, Ryan began walking on his way to class. While he was walking a male student bumped into him and snatched his wallet.

"Hey, come back here!" Ryan yelled as he ran after the thief.

Ryan ran through the hallways while trying not to lose track of the wallet snatcher. The thief ran around the corner to the right with Ryan following him. During the chase Ryan suddenly felt himself move faster and started catching up to the thief. The thief turned his head and saw that Ryan had stopped running. Thinking that he was in the clear the thief turned his head back only to slip on a wet floor.

The thief slowly got up as Ryan approached him.

"Give me back my wallet and there won't be any trouble."

"What are you going to do about it, chump?" The thief asked.

Ryan clenched his fist as he slammed it into the thief's face sending him flying across the hallway.

"How did that happen? I didn't hit him that hard." Ryan thought before looking at his hand to see it glowing green.

"I don't what this is but I like it." Ryan thought before taking his wallet back from the unconscious thief.

Meanwhile in gym class

We were playing kickball with against the other team. I was sitting down waiting for my turn. After a short minute of waiting I got up to kick the ball.

The pitcher rolled the ball towards me. I kicked it hard causing a mixture of fire and electricity to appear on it, the ball flew past everyone and smashed through a wall.

The whole gym was shocked including the coach.

They all stared at me in disbelief.

I couldn't help but feel embarrassed.

"Sorry." I said awkwardly.

Later: Brookslye Cafeteria

I walked through the cafeteria trying to find a place to sit. I saw Ryan sitting at a table by himself and decided to join him.

"Hey Ryan, what's going on?" I greeted.

"Oh nothing much, except for the fact that the weirdest thing happened to me." Ryan said."

"You're not the only one." I stated.

"Wow, things are getting weirder by the minute. Anyway what happened with you?" Ryan asked.

"I somehow created a mixture of fire and electricity during a game of kickball causing everyone to stare at me. God that was embarrassing." I said.

"If you think your story's weird wait till you hear mine." Ryan said.

"Lay it on me." I said.

"After you left for class, some thief stole my wallet. I chased him in the hallway until he slipped on a wet floor, then I punched his lights out and saw that my hand glowed green." Ryan explained.

"Jesus, this day just keeps getting weirder and weirder." I stated.

Ryan though for a moment until something hit him.

"Wait, so all these weird things started happening after we came back from the facility. Do you think that maybe we've gained supernatural abilities?" Ryan asked.

"I'm not sure, how bout we meet up at the gym tonight and find out." I suggested.

"Sounds like a plan." Ryan said.

Meanwhile in an isolated mountain far away

A man in his early 40's activated a program on a large computer monitor. The man had brown eyes, tanned skin and black hair. He wore a black jumpsuit, black boots and silver gloves

A teenage girl entered the lab.

"Are the generators ready?" The man asked without looking at her.

"Yes, master Nitro, all 25 generators have been installed all over Ballwood." The girl answered.

"Good. I'll need time for the generators to start functioning. I need you to make sure that no one gets near them." Nitro instructed.

"Yes, master." The girl said as she left the room.

Nitro sat down in a chair while staring at the monitor.

"Everything is falling into place. Once the generators have been activated, I'll be able to collect Ballwood's main forms of technology and use it to put my real plan into action." Nitro said with a devious grin.

Brookslye High/Gymnasium

Ryan and I walked through the doors wearing our tracksuit outfits.

"So how are we going to do this without causing damage?" asked Ryan.

"Don't worry I can use this device to create a holographic version of this area." I said while setting the device on the ground.

"Where did you get that?" asked Ryan.

"My uncle gave me this hologram machine to help me practice self-defense." I explained.

"Cool." Ryan said as I finished setting up the device.

"Alright, let's get started." I said as the gym transformed into a holographic environment.

We looked around as we saw two holographic humans appear and got into a fighting position.

"I forgot to mention that humanoid holograms are used as training dummies." I explained.

"Your uncle really hooked you up." Ryan stated.

We separated as charged at the dummies.

The first dummy charged and threw a punch at me. I quickly dodged it and slugged the dummy a few times before sticking my hand out to shoot a flame bolt. The flame bolt struck the dummy causing it to fly backwards to the ground. The dummy got up as it shot towards me.

Meanwhile Ryan was having trouble hitting the second dummy as it kept dodging or blocking. Ryan managed to kick the dummy in the leg causing it to fall down. Ryan grabbed dummy and started spinning it around until he let go sending the dummy crashing against the walls.

The dummy got up as Ryan stuck his hand out and shot a plasma beam, the beam hit the dummy causing it to explode into pieces.

"That's what I'm talking about!" Ryan cheered.

I was grappling with the first dummy as it pinned me to the ground and tried to punch me. I caught the punch and kicked the dummy off me, before it could do anything I shot a flame bolt at the dummy causing it to explode.

"I could get used to this." I said as I walked over to the device and turned it off.

All of a sudden both of our track suits started glowing.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"I don't know." Ryan said.

After a few seconds the glowing faded away.

We both looked at each other and saw that our outfits had changed along with our appearances.

I had tanned skin, dark blue eyes and white hair. My track suit had been changed to a mixture of black and blue with an electric fire symbol on my chest. My high tops had been changed to gold. I also now wore Black fingerless gloves.

Ryan had light skin, green eyes and black hair. His track suit had been changed to a mixture of black and green with an atom symbol colored bright green on his chest. Ryan's tennis shoes had been changed to white and green. He also wears white fingerless gloves.

"Holy crap, dude this is awesome!" Ryan said with excitement.

"Yeah, I kind of like the new threads." I said.

"Dude, do you know what this means?" Ryan asked.

"No." I answered.

"We could become an unstoppable crime fighting duo called the Undertakers!" Ryan said.

"I'm not so sure about that." I said.

"Come on, I even came up with some awesome names for us. Want to hear them?" Ryan asked.

"Fire away." I said.

"Your name can be Solar and my name can be Plasmo. Awesome, right?" Ryan asked.

I took a moment to absorb the names and smiled at the thought.

"I like it." I answered.

"Awesome!" Plasmo beamed as he gave me a high five.

All of a sudden an earthquake shook the gym causing us to fall on the floor.

The gym kept shaking until the power went out.

"What just happened?" I asked.

"I don't know, let's go check outside." Plasmo said.

Ballwood Streets

We looked around and saw that the whole city was pitch black. The only source of light came from the full moon.

Okay, I'm officially freaked out now." I stated.

"That earthquake caused a blackout." Plasmo said.

"We should try to find out what caused it." I said.

Plasmo nodded as we walked through the dark streets. We kept walking until we approached a manhole in an alleyway.

"Do you think that maybe we could find something in the sewers?" asked Plasmo.

"Let's find out." I answered as we both climbed down the hole while closing the lid.

We walked through the tunnels despite the shallow waters. We then came to large center that had two directions.

"I'm guessing this is the part where we split up, right?" Plasmo asked.

"Uh-huh." I answered with my eyelids half closed.

Plasmo went to the left while I went to the right. As I walking a mysterious figure was watching me from the shadows. I walked further into the tunnel until I saw an opening.

I reached the opening and saw that I was in a large open area of the sewers.

"I've never went this far since I lost my boomerang down here." I said to myself.

I walked around the center of the sewers and saw something glowing behind a large pipe. I got closer and saw a round shaped generator with purple energy floating above it.

Before I could do anything a hand grabbed me and tossed me backwards. I quickly recovered and landed on my feet in the center.

"Who's there?" I said out loud.

I got no answer as a purple energy beam shot towards me. I quickly jumped out of the way as the beam hit the floor.

"I know you're here, come out so I can see you!" I demanded.

The figure landed in front of me so that I could see her clearly.

The figure was a teenage girl who looked like she was 15. She had glowing red eyes, black hair that was slightly long and pale skin. She wore a black battle suit and black boots with red energy lines on them.

"Well you're no fun at all." She said with a devious grin.

I gave her a slight glare. "I'm not here to play games, why did you attack me?"

"I can't let you near that generator otherwise you'll ruin the surprise." The girl said.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

The girl grinned. "That's my little secret."

"I'm destroying that generator one way or another." I said.

"You'll have to deal with me first." The girl said as red energy began to form in her hands.

Upon seeing that I took a few steps back.

Meanwhile…

Plasmo kept walking until he reached an opening that had a drain pipe in it.

"Well there's nothing here but nasty sewer water. I wonder if Solar had any luck."

Plasmo heard a vibrating sound and reached into his pocket to pull out his phone.

"Uh, Plasmo I think I found the problem!" I said.

"What is it?" asked Plasmo

"No time to explain, get over here now!" I yelled before hanging up.

Plasmo began running through the tunnel.

Meanwhile I was dodging deadly energy beams as I made my way towards the generator. Before I could hit it the girl stretched her arm and grabbed me.

She then tossed me to the ground as I got up.

The girl approached me and raised her foot to stomp on me. I quickly rolled out of the way as she missed. I shot a flame bolt at her but she used a purple shield to block it.

I then threw punches as she kept blocking until I kicked her in the face causing to fall to the ground. I then started running towards the generator.

The girl growled before stretched her arm and grabbed my leg causing me to fall down. She then threw me backwards as I crashed against a wall.

The girl got up and looked at me.

"You'll never get near that generator as long as I'm still standing."

I smirked. "You might be able to take on one opponent, but can you take on two?"

"What?" The girl asked before she turned around and saw Plasmo standing a few feet away from her.

"Leave Solar alone or you're going to answer to me." He said.

The girl looked at me and saw that I was standing a few feet away from her.

"Are you ready to give up yet?" I asked.

"Not a chance!" The girl growled.

We both charged and threw a punch at her only to accidentally hit ourselves in the face. We rubbed our cheeks as we looked up and saw the girl come down from the ceiling.

We quickly jumped out of the way as Plasmo dodged a few of her punches and caught her arm. He then whacked the girl in the face with a head butt, causing her to stumble back a bit. As she held her face, Plasmo used his fist to jab her in the jaw, knocking her to the ground.

The girl got up as we were running away from her and threw a small device on the generator creating a barrier around it.

Plasmo and I stopped running and glared at her.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Name's Volt, surrender now or I'll have both of your heads as trophies!" Volt said darkly.

"Not until that thing is destroyed!" Plasmo said.

Plasmo's fists glowed green as he shot plasma beams at Volt. As they were about to hit her, Volt used her energy shields to cover herself. The beams then smashed against her shields.

I jumped in the air with a huge flame bolt in my hands. As I came down, Volt used another shield to stop my attack and pushed me back with great force. Plasmo managed to catch me before I fell.

"Any ideas?" asked Plasmo.

"We use our powers to hit her at the same time." I said.

Plasmo nodded as we shot both flame bolts and plasma beams towards Volt. She kept dodging the blasts until she got slow and one of them smashed in her chest; causing her to fly backwards and hit the ground.

Volt picked herself up and dashed towards us. Plasmo charged his fist back as it glowed green. When Volt got close, Plasmo brought his fist forward and punched her hard in the face as she flew backwards; crashing into the generator.

"Yes, we did it!" Plasmo cheered as he gave me a fist bump.

We heard the sound of groaning as Volt slowly got and saw that the generator was destroyed.

"No, it's destroyed!"

"Looks like you've underestimated our teamwork." I said confidently.

Volt glared as she jumped into the tunnel entrance.

"I'll admit defeat for now but next time your heads will be my trophies!" With that, Volt ran off.

"Now that the generator's gone, the power should be back on right?" I asked.

"I'm not sure, let's go check." Plasmo said as we went through the tunnel.

Ballwood streets

Ryan and I reverted back to our human forms as we climbed out of the manhole and saw that the city's power was back on.

"Well that did the trick." I said.

"Good, let's go home before our parents find out we're gone." Ryan said.

"Good call." I said as we started running.

Nitro's Lair

Volt stood before Nitro as he glared at her.

"This is unacceptable." he said.

"I tried to stop them, master but they managed to outsmart me." Volt explained.

"Do you have any idea how much trouble this could cause for my plans?!" Nitro yelled in frustration.

"I'm sorry, master Nitro, it won't happen again." Volt said with fear.

"Pray that it doesn't happen again, child. Because if it does you know what will happen." Nitro said darkly.

Volt nodded as she walked away.

Nitro walked over to check on the monitor.

"Those so called vigilantes may have destroyed one generator but they won't be so lucky with finding the rest of them, I'll make sure of that." Nitro said with a devious smile.

End.
