Memory Lapse

In one hotel in the center of London, a young girl was looking out over the balcony and down towards Hyde Park.

The sun was shining down on her, highlighting her dark hair and making it appear lighter.

The air around her was still, which is exactly why, at that moment, the girl stood in one of her summer dresses; a short light blue dress that came just above her knees. There was hardly any breeze at all, but her summer dress billowed about her legs in a silent dance.

She breathed in deeply, leaning against the railing and slowly grazed up at the crystal blue sky above her.

The next minute she felt someone slide an arm around her stomach and a body press up against her from behind.

This made her jump slightly, until she felt the person breath over her ear. "I'm sorry I have to do this" he whispered to her; which made her stiffen up a little. "They are watching my love" the man continued to say.

She slowly lifted her leg, situating it between his two, and kicked up and this made him loosened his grip, keeling down and holding himself in pain. She took the opportunity to pull his arms behind his back. "Run while you can," he said to her,

"And why would I do that?" she breathed into his ear, but before she knew what was happening next; she felt a sharp pain shoot through her skull, and everything went black.

When she started coming back around she shot up quickly and at the same time she felt like she was being pushed back down, she was so determined to fight this.

That was until she heard a voice say "Calm down everything is going to be alright" she realised that it wasn't the same voice as she had heard earlier.

She slowly opened her eyes and saw she was in a room with bright white walls and very limited furniture, which seemed to only consist of a bed that she was now sitting on.

She turned her head to face the person that spoke to her and instantly knew that he was a doctor, by the white lab coat he was wearing, so this meant she was in the hospital.

"You're in the hospital" the doctor confirmed. "I'm Dr. Lane and who might I be speaking to?"

She opened her mouth to answer him, but for some reason she started grazing off as if to continue her search of the room, she only found an empty bedside cabinet beside her.

She tried to search into the back of her mind, but all she came in contact with was a force field that bounced her away and for some reason wasn't letting her through, she tried pushing herself through this force field, but all it was doing was hurting head.

"I don't remember" She confirmed to the doctor.

"I thought as much; you have quite a large lump on your head" and before the doctor finishing saying that, she was already reaching her hand up to her head. When she reached the lump; she flinched in pain, and realised just how big it was; nearly the size a child's fist. "It's going to be really tender for a few days or so" the doctor told her. "Is there anything you can remember" The doctor continued to ask her.

Once again she tried to search her mind and she just came up against that force field again; she couldn't remember anything except that dream she just had, could that be a memory or just a nightmare.

"No worries I'm sure it will all come back to you in time" the doctor said as if he had read her mind.

She wondered if the doctor knew why she was brought here. "Can you tell me what happened? I must of have been brought here for a reason, besides my memory lapse that is" she asked the doctor.

The doctor's face quickly turned quite serious and she knew he was afraid to tell her. "Someone attacked you and barely left you alive" the doctor answered her.

She stared in shock; of all the things, he could of said, she didn't expect to hear that, she was thinking why someone was trying to kill her, was she a bad person...?

No, she didn't feel like she was bad girl, but what would she know about herself; that damn wall was stopping her from getting that information.

"How did you find me?" She asked the doctor, after she realised he was the only one who could help her fill in the blanks, even if it was just about how he find her. There might be something there that could trigger her memory and finally break down that wall at the back of her mind.

"It wasn't me who found you it was some young guy named Scott Stone. Does that name ring any bells for you?" the doctor asked her.

She tried her best to search her mind, but she just came across the same thing; which was really started to make her feel light headed and knew she couldn't sit up anymore, so she lower herself back on the bed and felt a little relief as she relaxed her head back against the pillow.

"Maybe I should let you rest, we can continue this another time" the doctor said as he started to turn around.

She knew this wasn't going to help get her memory back, so she quickly reached out and grabbed a hold of his arm. The Doctor turned back around to face her and she slowly let go of his arm.

"That is quite a grip you have there" the doctor said

She responded straight back with "Sorry, but please continue to tell me what you know".

"Very well... I will" the doctor answered her.

"Well this Mr Stone doesn't seem to know you. He mentioned that he works at the hotel where he found you..." Now that did ring a bell for her, was she started to remember again, but no her mind was still blocking her, then she remembered the dream she just had.

"The Hilton, overlooking Hyde Park" she said to the doctor, who was now raising his eyebrows at her.

"You're starting to remember" the doctor said.

She realised she would have to tell him about her dream, even if it had felt more like a nightmare to her. "It was a nightmare I had" she confirmed to the doctor.

The doctor's answer wasn't what she expected "You had a dream... It could be possible that your memory is returning through your dreams. Memories can do that, when you build a brick wall around them'.

Was the doctor right? had she built this wall at the back of her mind? If that was the case, it might be that whatever did happen to her she was determined not to remember it ever again.

"God, was my life really that bad?" she mumbled to herself

2: Dream Revealing
Dream Revealing

"Please tell me about your dream; maybe we can piece together what happened to you?" The doctor said to her.

She couldn't remember much of her dream, except what she felt, and that had been pretty strong. "All I can remember is a guy was trying to attack me" she confirmed to the doctor

He replied back straight away with "A guy! Are you certain it was a guy?"

She definitely knew he was male for when she kicked him between the legs and that must have been the only way she had managed to turn the situation around. "Yes, we had a bit of a fight... well I wouldn't quite call it a fight, we both kind of struggled for the upper hand..."

"You managed to get the upper end?" the doctor interpreted her with a shocked look on his face.

She realised what the doctor meant and how he had said it, so that meant she knew how to fight or at least how to defend herself.

"There's one skill about yourself" the doctor confirmed for her.

She could defend herself, just not well enough it seems. "Not very well it would seem, or I wouldn't be here right now". She confined to him.

"This guy could have been a professional" the doctor suggested to her.

If this guy had been a professional, she wondered what sort of pro he have been, a killer...? If he was he hadn't done a very good job. Maybe she was a hit target for him... God, she wished she could kick this wall down at the back of her mind, but maybe some thoughts were leaking through... or maybe not, her head was really starting to pound now, like someone was playing the drums inside her head.

The bright walls of the room were really starting to get to her, they were making her vision blurry and slowly making her head worse, she slowly laid back down on the bed closing her eyes and hoped that would ease her head slightly.

"I think we should continue this another time, you really need to rest some more" the doctor stated

She couldn't argue with him on that one, she didn't think she could manger that anyway, or she could manage was a slow nod of her head.

"Try to relax your mind..." the doctor gently placed his hand on her arm. "... You are safe in here and I'll get you something, to try and help you sleep" The doctor continued to say as he removed his hand and she could sense he was walking away from her.

As she continued to lay there she tried to do as the doctor said and tried to clear her mind or at least try to stop thinking, but it was easier said than done.

She wondered if the person who had tried to kill her, if he would come back to finish the job? She just couldn't understand why he would want to kill her in the first place? What had she done that was so wrong? All this was starting to make her head worse, she wish the doctor with hurry up with those painkillers.

Just then she heard soft footsteps getting closer, she was glad the doctor was back, he had taken long enough, but something wasn't right, well severely things weren't quite right; whoever it was that had walked into the room, hadn't approached the bed yet, she could tell this by how fewer footsteps they had took and the one thing that really confirmed it wasn't the same doctor, was the aftershave she could smell; it was very strong, not the same smell that had come from Dr. Lane.

Did she recognise that aftershave smell, it seemed to smell formally to her, but no matter how much she was sure of it, no thoughts were coming to her, all it made her feel was this strange feeling in her stomach, that made her feel like she was going to throw up.

All these things were really starting to freak her out, as whoever came in still hadn't approached or had even spoken to her. Her first thought was, had the guy come back to finish the job. She tried to match the aftershave to the person in her dreams, but she didn't seem to remember any smells or was she just too scared to even remember.

She felt to scared to even open her eyes that was for sure, but she knew she should see who it was, it might just be another doctor, but deep down she was sure he wasn't another doctor, she didn't know why she knew that, she just did. One thing she knew for certain was that this person was male, unless there were females out there that wore aftershave.

Just then the footsteps started getting closer, oh no, what was she to do, she had to open her eyes and at least see what was going on and why she felt so much fear in her stomach; which she was such she was going to throw up any minute now.

Everything all of a sudden went very quite, which was very unusual... all she could hear was her own breathing, which was quite heavy.

Then a dark shadow appeared over her and in that instantly it made her open her eyes right there and then, and the first thing she saw was an intense pair of bright blue eyes staring down at her.

3: First Visitor
First Visitor

The person with the bright blue eyes stared as she stared right back.

Those eyes were as bright as the sky and for some reason making her feel peaceful; All her fears had just vanished as if this person was enchanting her into a calm state. Did she know this person? These eyes somehow did seem familiar to her, but she couldn't place them.

The person continued to stare at her for a moment or two before a wide smile appeared on their face; the corners of their mouth nearly reached up to their eyes. She continued to search his face more to see if any feature would spark a memory in her mind, one thing she knew, the person was definitely male.

"I told you to wait outside." Now that voice did belong to the doctor that had gone to get her some pain relief.

The person that had been leaning over her, now straightened back up. "Sorry, I was just concerned with how she was," he said to the doctor.

She took this moment to take the rest of him in, realising he was a young lad; she guessed he would be in his late twenties or maybe early thirties, he was wearing a light blue top, which blended in with his eyes and black jeans to complete his attire... She had to admit, he was quite good looking, expressly with those eyes; Eyes that seemed really familiar to her, but once again her mind was stopping her from receiving any information.

"I don't think she up to receiving any visitors just yet, Mr. Stone," the doctor continued to say.

So this was the person that found her; saved her life! She guessed there was at least one thing to say to him, "Thank you!"

The guy took that moment to turn his head back to her. knowing she should say more, but what can you say to the person that saved your life? Especially if you have no memory of them, which she didn't have at this moment?

"No need to thank me!"

She could tell he wasn't quite finished with what he was going to say, but for some reason had gone quiet, it looked like he was trying to find the words as he looked off to the side of the room and then straight back again.

"I just wish I had found you sooner," he finally said.

Found her sooner! If he had, he might be a patient himself instead of being the visitor.

One thing she knew was, he didn't seem to know her. "I'm grateful you did find me in time, but can you tell me if I knew you before you found me?"

For a moment there he froze in shock, but it only lasted for second, before he smiled once again. That moment had been so brief, she may have been wrong... no, was sure she had. Great, now was questioning herself and this certainly wasn't helping her head.

"Can't you remember anything? He gently asked her.

She just shook her head, couldn't bring herself to speak.

"Do I look familiar to you?" He continued to ask.

Wasn't sure if she would be able to answer him; her head was really pounding away, making her feel so light headed, but knew she had to try and speak to him, had to know everything, if she ever wanted to get her memory back. "Your eyes," she manages to say.

There it was again; where he froze in shock, but once again it only lasted for a brief moment. Was she seeing things? Wouldn't put it past her mind to play tricks on her; what with the nails sticking in her head, well that was how it felt anyway.

He soon smiled at her once again with that wide grin, "When I found you, I stayed with you until the ambulance arrived; you did slip in and out of conscious, so that must be how you remember my eyes. We have never met before, I'd certainly remember meeting a girl as lovely as you,' he answered her.

This was just what she had thought, that he didn't know her, or maybe he did, she wasn't sure how to take this guy; his face expressions changed all the time, even if only for a belief moment, but that could be her mind playing tricks, wasn't sure of much at this moment, really needed to rest her mind and hopefully when she woke her memory will have returned, but doubted it.

"O.K that's enough for now, she really needs to rest," the doctor confirmed for her.

She closed her eyes, hoping that would ease the pain, well it did a little, but not enough as she would have liked, so she kept her eyes closed and hoped the doctor would escort him out, couldn't bring herself to talk to him anymore.

"Certainly, I'll let you rest. I have to go back to work, I'm only on my lunch break, but I'd like to come back and see you later if I may?' He was asking her.

"Yes!" Was all she could bring herself to say. She heard him walk away as someone walked to her, which she knew was the doctor.

"Here, try and take this; it will help to ease your head a little."

She took whatever liquid it was; it tasted bad, but most medicines always did.

"Sleep now, I'll check on you later," the doctor said as she heard him walk away.

It didn't take her long to feel into a deep sleep and back to her dream world.
