WIMR: Ch. I

Wherever I May Roam Ch. I

It was a dark night, filled with laughter and wonderful music. The moon shone brightly outside, though it was a mere crescent. The party indoors was drawing to an end and two friends, Ludwig led Addonia out of the room, outside of the massive building where the chill of winter was creeping upon their city.
She had been frustrated with him and his newly formed attitude over the past two weeks. This, though it was just a moment, had only made her annoyed.
"Addonia, we need to talk about a very important matter." He knew that the next words that were going to come out of his mouth were most likely going to upset her.
She caught on quick that something was wrong by the way he looked at her. Addonia looked at him real good for a second.
"Ludwig, what's going on?"
He sighed. He knew he had to do something now before his actions started to bring bigger effects than ever before, between what was in planning. And what he thought what he had already done was bad enough.. He had to give up his best friend for the sake of her safety. The one person who had stuck with him sincthe day they met. Ludwig had to give her up in order to protect her.

At least, that's what he told himself.

"Think your so smart, punk?" The teenager exclaimed, holding up a student who had only been trying to finhis way around the school and get to his class.

"Hey!" A young girl yelled from a few feet away with an overpowered voice.

"Why don't you try picking on someone your own size?"

The boy held the innocent kid against the brick wall of the school building and gave her a nasty look before throwing him to the ground. The teen stood in front of the girl in an attempt to seem menacing.

She gave him the look right back.

"Got a problem?" He growled.

"With you and your ugly face." She retorted.

"Don't you have any decency to be nice for once? To change your ways?"

"Not my style, gal." He suddenly grabbed her hand and she tried to pull away defenselessly... Or so he thought.

"Let go of me. NOW." She demanded. He tried to pull her in closer and then it went from there.

Then, she simply reacted.

The girl punched him in the nose with her free hand and he fell to the ground, losing his grip on her hand and held his bloodied nose instead. She stood over him with her arms crossed.

"I hope you know right now that I'm not done.. I'm NEVER done when it comes to people like you!" She screamed and then kicked him in the gut.

"Now get your stupid ass out of here!"

The supposedly scary looking teen started to crawl away from her in fear, eventually getting up and running away.

The young man victimized sat on the ground in shock. After witnessing what she just did, he was shake and scared that she would do what she did to him. The girl walked over to him and held out one of her bruised hands.

"Are you okay?" She asked, very worried. Surprised, he took her hand and then he balanced himself up.

"I am fine, thank you. And thank you for what you did just now." She looked at him and smiled proudly.
"No problem! So, are you new around here?"

"Yes, I moved here this week. And so far, it hasn't been the best experience." He sighed, fixing his messy hair back.
"I know what you mean. Being at this place is already hard enough." She assured him.
"My name is Addonia." She held out her hand and he shook it.

"I am Ludwig." He smiled. After a few seconds, she asked him a question.
"What class are you heading to next?"

"History. But I do not know where this room is..." Ludwig held out his paper with a reddening face.
"Hey! This looks just like my schedule! In that case, just follow me, okay?" Addonia smiled.

The two headed off to their next class and left the scene with a new-found friendship.

"Ludwig? Hey!" Addonia snapped her fingers in front of his face.
"Huh?" The thoughts and memories left his head as he came back to reality.
"As I was saying... Addonia, I don't want to have to say this but...but..." He stuttered and felt as if his heart was going to rip out of his chest. Then Ivan came up beside them.
"Does she already know?" Addonia shot a look at Ivan then back at Ludwig.
"Know what?" She stared at Ludwig with another ominous look.
"You better tell me what the hell is going on." He grabbed her shoulders.
"Addonia... I'm trading you off, to go be part of another team." She blinked, unable to comprehend the words that just came out his mouth.
"...What?" Her face turned slightly ominous. Ludwig knew right then that this would be harder than he thought.
"Addonia, all I ever want is for you to be safe and in order for that to happen, you need to go." She thought he was just being absent minded, but deep down she knew he meant it.
"What kind of bullshit is that? You can't just send me off like that!" She put up a fight like none other. Ludwig kept shaking his head.
"No, NO. You are not safe here anymore. All the people here just-..." She hugged him right then and did not intend on letting go. He meant too much to her, so did their other immediate subordinates, who remained up in the building behind them, aware of the plan. Ivan, who was still standing there, couldn't help but watch the sadness unfold before him.
"I don't want to leave you here.. You're like my family!" Addonia didn't try to hold back her voice. The hug was disbanded after another five minutes of their final time together.
"Your stuff is already at Ivan's house... I promise, you will be safer there." She looked back at him with a pain in her eyes and then avoided eye contact.
"But I-" Ludwig cut her off.
"It doesn't matter. I want you to get out of here." She still needed an answer as to why now. Why was he so determined to get her out of there?
"Ludwig... What's going on that you want me away from?" He couldn't find the courage to say the answer.
"Things that I don't want you to be involved in." She looked at him blankly and wiped her remaining tears.
"But what about you? Ludwig, I don't want you to get hurt from someone else's actions!" She exclaimed.
"Addonia, go with Ivan. Please..." He said softly.
"This is already.." Addonia interrupted her own train of thought.
"Just promise me one thing?"
Addonia looked at him and continued.
"Don't get hurt. Don't let anyone get hurt. And promise me that you will come to see me after all this is over." Ludwig was shocked. For once, she didn't have such a demanding request.
"I promise, Addonia." They both smiled at each other.
Addonia turned around and faced Ivan and attempted to speak finally as he cut her off.
"We should leave now before anyone finds us out here." Ivan said quietly. Addonia looked at him and then turned to face Ludwig.
"Goodbye."  Addonia followed Ivan to the car in the and watched the stars while she walked. She sat in the passenger seat and awaited the long ride ahead of them.
