But We Know Better

What are you doing? Are you on that stupid site again? Talking to all your 'friends'?

They're not your friends. They don't exist - you haven't even seen them before! They don't like you, thy just want to use you!

Idiot!

Your life is a waste! All you've got to show for yourself is a few faulty 'friends' you don't even know. You have no real friends.

That's not true.

These people are my friends. They care for me. I can talk to them. They are there for me!

My family, my peers, my teachers, they all sneer at me. They sneer at the poor kid who has to resort to the internet to have a life.

The poor kid who has no friends. The poor kid who will probably have no real future.

The poor kid who is now being bullied.

The poor kid who now has depression.

The poor kid who wears long sleeved T-shirts to hide the scars criss-crossing down her arms, who ducks her head in public, hiding.

The poor kid who throws herself into her studies, into her art, trying to be something.

Then she uploads them onto the internet.

Other internet users love her work.

Ur amazing! So talented!

This picture means so much to me. I can't thank you enough for this.

Then, the poor kid grows more confident in herself. Uploads more works.

Gets ridiculed in real life for spending so much time on the internet. "Your drawing stinks! You call yourself an artist?! How do you live with yourself? You should just stop trying."

And so she does. Sinking deeper into depression, her life becomes dark.

She pleads online, to the people she has come to know and love, asking for help, for anything.

Her friends respond.

They help. They offer support, they give her comfort.

They help through the darkness.

So now, she knows that they are her friends, not just some names on a screen, faceless people trying to use her.

In time, as she grows more confident, she returns the deeds - she helps other people. She talks with people, offers advice, feedback, expands herself. Together, they all laugh, they all cry, they all become closer.

She feels loved, and she makes others feel loved.

She's part of a family, with a bond so strong that their love burns brighter with every mile that they're apart.

Thank you, she types. thank you so much.
