The Beginning

Two people, a male and a female walk outside their hut of a home. The other people in the village follow, all is silent in honor. They head into the forest of tall trees and out of the clearing full of village huts and shops. Leaves crunch underfoot and the grass is disturbed with careful feet. Even the animals are silent, as if they know what is happening.

The sky sits above, blue and calm as the lazy white clouds seem to hang over he area, seemingly waiting for what may come. In the front, the woman at the side of the man, is holding a bundle. In the bundle is a beautiful baby girl in a pelt of soft sheepskin. They carry her into a small clearing and most surprisingly, set her down in the grass.

The child makes a soft gurgling noise and with that, the people left towards the direction of the village. Upon entering the noise returned to the area and people split off to tend to farms, go to the market, practice battle, and other normal things. This ritual would seem cruel, but it was a necessity in the medieval world of Natorok. By morningbreak the next day, if the child was one of the few chosen, a dragon would claim it as a companion. Then the child would grow up with the creature. Some people were lucky enough to be dragon chosen.

A faint blue dragon, about the size of a large horse, landed in the clearing the child occupied. It walked over to the child, eyes cloudy, but not yet sightless. Whiskers hung from its face, showing age and wisdom. It sat near the child and folded its wings behind its back, fur tufted tail curling around the child.

The baby showed no fear of the creature and giggled, reaching a small hand to the creature. "You don't fear me. That is a good sign for you, little one. I may be able to find a taker."it spoke, voice deep and a bit cracked with age.

It reached out with a clawed paw and gently placed it on the child's head as the creature closed its eyes. It saw into the soul of the small child, seeing its future traits and potential, but not events themselves. The dragon's eyes opened quickly as it absorbed the knowledge and withdrew its paw. "You are very different, child. And your traits would be compatable with a dragon, so you're in luck."it said, a bit suprised since this child was unique in more ways than just traits.

The old dragon drew a series of symbols in the ground with a claw, ones that matched the traits and one to show the unique thing it had discovered. The symbols lit up with a blue aura of sorts. In a cave a good distance away, a dragon awoke from slumber and stood. He was the match, having been awoken by the bond that had formed. His own symbols were close to that of the child. He excitedly exited the cave and flew in the direction his instinct was leading him.

He flew as fast as his adolesant wings could carry him. He scanned the forest below anxiously until he saw the Elder Dragon and the chosen child. He circled and landed, a bit shaky from his inexperience.

He had plates of brilliant silver scales which were durable. His underbelly was also plated, but with black scales that were thicker and protruded a bit from his body. His tail ended in two black blade like points that were curved slightly inwards. Black spikes ran down his neck, all the way to his tail. The silver dragon also had two long, flowing, black horns and a crest of curved black subhorns. He also had spikes running down his chin and one on his nose in between his nostrils. The dragon's nose ended in a point of sorts and his eyes were a bright blue with cat like eyes instead of reptilian ones. Actually, his whole anatomy was more cat like than reptilian and he was currently as tall as the Elder dragon because of his age.

"Aranwen. You have been bonded with this child."The Elder dragon spoke.

The silvery dragon approached the child on careful paws, leaning his head down to her. The baby reached out with a laugh and placed a hand on Aranwen's snout in a gentle manner. Arawen's blue eyes met the child's blue eyes, and they further bonded. A low rumbling purr rose in the dragons chest and he closed his eyes with a small smile. "I see the connection has been made. I wish you both luck."the Elder Dragon said before turning and flying off.

Aranwen curled up around the child, tail supporting the side opposite which he was laying. He placed a black bat like wing over the child, making a little shelter for it, and placed his head under it as well. He looked at the child, fascinated. The baby soon fell asleep, comfortable in the dragons presence.

In the morning, the parents and townspeople returned. This time the mood was light and excited. The parents hoped their child would be bonded and the village people were excited as well. A dragon was good to have in a village. Currently only one dragon bonded resided in their village.

As they entered the clearing, there were gasps of awe and suprise. Aranwen, the beautiful adolescent dragon, lifted his head and looked at the people. He lifted his wing to reveal the baby, safe and sound. This was the mere beginning of the two creatures companionship.

2: The Discovery
The Discovery

5 years later

A young girl with light blonde hair ran through the village. A horse sized silver dragon running after. She laughed, runing barefoot on the dirt road. She nearly ran into a man carrying a crate of tomatoes. "Watch it, Lena."he warned.

She looked over her shoulder to apoligize before continuing to run. He dragon ran after her, tail knocking he tomato crate over. "Aranwen!"the man cried out.

"Sorry, Mr. Smith!"the dragon spoke as it pursued the girl.

People dodged the oncoming dragon and the little girl. Stern voices called "Lena," (pronounced Lee-na) and "Aranwen," as the two barreled through the village.

Lena was not like most kids her age, she was faster, stronger, even more aware of the world. And she had yet to know of her differences.

Alanwen chased the girl into the market. People moved to avoid him and the small girl. A few crates were knocked over in their wake, until finally they reached the forest.

A few kids were rough housing on the edge of the forest. Lena ran to them as Alanwen slowed to a stop. Lena's white tunic that was a bit too big for her, billowed a bit as she ran. She reached the children, barely out of breath. "Made your runs around town?"A little dusty boy asked as he stood.

"Yep."Little Lena replied with a nod, blowing a stray strand of long light blonde hair out of her face.

"And you aren't out of breath?"he asked.

"Nope, not at all, Andy."she said, almost triumphantly,

The other kids looked suprised as well. "Oh well, let's play!"Andy said, tackling Lena.

The girl laughed and tussled with the little boy as Alanwen watched over. The dragon had taken a seat near another dragon. Andy was the only other boy who had been chosen by a dragon. It was an adolescent dragon as well, with smooth green scales.

They tussled like normal until Lena's nails sharpened to claws. "Ow, easy with your nails, Lena."Andy said, pulling away and seeing her nails.

He sat up, eyes wider as he took her hand in one of his. The other kids gathered to look. There were black claws where her nails should have been. They gaped at her, some taking a small step back as the girl sat up. The dragons looked on, intrigued. "I don't know why that has happened..."Lena said, brown eyes now looking yellow.

"Your eyes, Lena...they're yellow....and your teeth are.."Andy said, eyes very wide.

"M..my teeth are what? "Lena said shakily, raising a clawed hand to her teeth. A bead of blood blossumed on her finger as a now sharpened canine pierced it. All four canine teeth were longer and sharper, and her other teeth were a bit sharper as well. She clutched her stomach in pain, causing Alanwen to sit up and move to her side.

She writhed in pain as her mouth elongated into what looked like a snout, nose different as well. Her ears became pointed and soon white fur began to grow. The kids backed away, one even running away. Alanwen remained near, not very fazed since he knew of what she had become.

She yelped in pain as her legs bent a different way with a painful crack. Her feet became padded and clawed and a tail began to sprout from her trousers. Soon a small white pelted wolf stood in her place.

The remaining kids screamed and ran, but Andy and the dragons stayed. Soon Lenas parents and the village elder came running and saw her. "A wolf?"Her dad asked.

"No. That is your daughter."the village elder spoke and walked to the frightened wolf pup. The elder leaned dpwn and touched her forehead. Lena slowly became human again. "Alanwen, take her home. Now."the elder said in a calm voice.

Alanwen nodded and scooped the girl onto her back. Shaking, she gripped the dragon's neck as he walked to the hut they lived in. Alanwen lay down behind the hut and Lena hesitantly climbed off and laid down against him. Alanwen provided shelter with a black wing and held her close. "Alanwen....what's wrong with me?"she asked in a small voice, peeking at the dragon from under his wing.

         "Nothing, Lena. You're fine."Alanwen reassured.

        "I'm different, aren't I?"she asked, curious.

"Yes. But different isn't bad."Alanwen said, blue eyes serious.

The village elder and her parents entered the hut, talking loudly. "You mean to tell me she's a wolfborn?!" The dad said, rather loudly.

"Yes. A girl with half of her spirit being that of a wolf. She can become a wolf, and is partially one. She will learn to control it and it will hurt less."the elder said.

"This is awful. Why is our child cursed?"the mother said, nervously running a hand through her hair.

"She isn't cursed. She is blessed with these abilities. "The elder simply said.

"A blessing? But now she'll be an outcast!"the father said.

"There is a school for kids like her. A ways a way. When she is of age, she will go. When she is 15."the elder said.

"But that's ten years from now."the mother said.

"Just keep her under control and lock her up on a full moons night. The full moon's rage will overcome her."the elder explained as he began to leave.

        "Wait! Why?"the father called after.

"You'll see. Just listen to me."the elder said as he left.

Lena had listened to the whole thing and felt frightened, but slightly excited. She felt a feeling inside her, a need that she would feel basically on and off through he rest of her life. She felt the need for adventure.
