The Rescue

Her green eyes glowed in the shadows. Her once silky fiery locks were matted down with blood and mud. Chained down to the peeling wallpaper, she was forced to sit in indescribable liquids and smelling objects on the floor. The uncomfortable surroundings and smell made her want to throw up her last meal, which tasted of rotten and moldy meat, from the gut wrenching scent and fear. Squirming with her chains proved pointless as it only cut into her fragile skin. Sighing in defeat she pressed her back against the wall. Instantly regretting it as the cold wall had her shivering and new disgusting material stuck to her.

Huffing in annoyance she listened to the creaking and the moaning past the darkness. A door flew open and with it light. It was enough so she could see the blacked out figure of a man. He was tall and clearly muscled. No longer caring about the slim among the walls she pressed herself firmly to it as the stranger approached. He ripped apart the bars, that didn't seem sturdy enough anyways. Ripping the chains off the wall, the man proceeded in picking up the damsel in distress. Carrying her bridal style he made his way out into a hallway. He tightened his grip on the now struggling woman.

Voices were heard up ahead, and they didn't seem happy. The woman continued, with more strength. Hissing he brought his growling voice to her ear, "Stop moving around." Right as his voice reached her brain she heeded his word and held perfectly still. Putting her on her feet, she wobbled and gripped his arm for support. The last couple of days were mostly spent sitting and little food was brought to her. Her lips were cracked and her voice no longer existed. The woman's throat had wrinkled in despair and all hope of hydration was lost.

The man planted a firm arm around her waist, gluing her to his side. His lips next to her ear he spoke again. "Close your eyes, don't listen to a word they say, you understand?" After seeing her confirmation on the subject, he positioned her upon his back. Her legs locked securely around his waist and her arms had a death grip on his throat.

Forcing her head into the back of his neck she took deep breathes, for a second she swore he had shivered but brushed it off as illusion. She closed her eyes and smelled in the rich scent he possessed. It smelled of fire but it seemed chilling not warm. She focused on the smell until a slight tug at her arm broke her concentration. They were now outside. The city lights were far in the distance, a small light came from the car in front of them. The man slowly eased her off of him.

Legs still wobbly she sat on the ground, attempting to gather back her strength to stand seemed useless. The shadow before her quickly picked her up and placed her into the warm interior of the car. She began to feel bad as the grim from her smeared onto the leather seat. A few seconds later they were heading off down the road. The woman looked back to see the dim outline of what seemed a warehouse. Sighing in a tiring defeat she leaned back and placed her forehead to the cool glass window. As the endless darkness passed them, it lured her to sleep for the first time in days.

Upon awaking the green eyed woman looked around the unfamiliar place. She laid upon a queen sized bed, covered in silk white sheets and a brown comforter. She noticed how pale she was. The woman frowned at how the sickly white compared to the silk sheets. Small light squeezed passed the thick brown curtains to dance lightly across the wooden floors. Moving carefully off the bed she then realized that she felt clean, no longer dirty.

Looking down she was placed in white cotton pajama pants that reached her ankles. The button up cotton shirt was also white and the sleeves extended to her fingertips. The clothing hung loosely on her slim body but she was warm and comfy. Just what I wanted to blend into my clothes. Perfect!

The floor was cold and shot chills up her spine. Moving across the floor without a squeak, she reached the door. Turning the golden handle, she swung open the door with little care. Looking left and right all she found was a expensively decorated hallway and one set of stairs going down. Moving down one end she found another staircase leading up. She gently skimmed her hand along the railing as she made her way to the next floor. Soft fingers glided effortlessly across the polished wood.

Peeking around she found a nicely organized row of book shelves. Looking more she found a desk and a small couch that had been placed in front of the fireplace. Lined with beautiful stone that went to the ceiling it slightly glowed from the fire. The desk had its back to the fireplace and couch. It was occupied. By the same man from the night before. And he was looking right at her.

His eyes were a pure pacific blue. Deep and never ending like the ocean. They seemed irritated at first, causing the young woman to gulp in nervousness. Before deciding on a course of action she noticed how the crease in his forehead and the frown by his eyebrows let up. They became kinder and welcoming. Standing he watched her cautiously, smiling as well he gestured her to come in. Silently entering she closed the door behind her respectfully. "Welcome. My apologizes I never introduced myself. I'm Jorge. I found you last night and brought you here."

Jorge looked at her warmly, waiting for her to speak. The woman tried but her voice was hoarse. Understanding her problem he had her sit down and call for water. A servant wearing a long dress of probably fleece came in. A silver shining platter with a nice glass of water. Her dress was a light gray with an old fashioned waist apron. Setting the glass in front of the guest she bowed and left, a smile playing on her lips as she took one last glance at the girl. She disappeared with a click of the wooden doors.

Hungrily, but politely she drained the glass. Jorge chuckled slightly but the playfulness never reached his eyes. They filled with concern, anger, and she detected a possible guilt hid behind the ocean. Swallowing once more she cleared her voice. Her green eyes connected to his blue as she spoke, "I'm Alex. Thank you for last night. I do have a question..." She looked down at her clothes. Jorge slightly blushed but he fought it back before she could look up. "One of the maids here cleaned you up last night and dressed you."

Her mouth formed an 'O' of understanding. Sitting down at his desk Alex moved away so he could continue his work. Unknown to her Jorge's eyes were not on his paper. He watched her out of the corner of his eye as she made her way down the rows of books. Guilt settled inside him as he now noticed the paleness of her skin. It was unnatural with her red hair. Her soft fingertips barely touching the leather cover of some books. Her eyes. The forest. Jorge now fully watching her as she stopped to look at a book, got up and stealthily went behind her.

"Mark Twain. He's interesting but some of the adventurous themes don't appeal to me too much." Alex jumped at his voice and her head peeked over her shoulder. "Agreed but I've never taken an interest in older fashioned books. Though something like Shakespeare's poems do interest me I find his plays, slightly too much." Jorge and Alex laughed lightly at the old poet. "I'm sorry you should be working." Shaking his head negatively the walked and talked about his modern and ,as Alex put it, 'old fashioned' books.

Jorge gathered the nerve to ask her to join him for dinner and she gladly accepted. The maids got her changed into comfy white leggings and a pink loose tank top. She wore black furry boots that reached a few inches before her knees. Her red locks was left alone to slightly wave out down her back and curl slightly at the ends. The maids giggled at their own secret planning. The minute she walked into the dining room Jorge glued his eyes on her. At first Alex stood awkwardly at the other end of the table. Jorge, snapping out of his trance from the unheard giggles from the other side of the door, pulled out the chair to his right for her to sit.

The golden chandelier hung in all its shimmering glory as they were served steak, green beans, and carrots. Alex smiled gleefully at her first full meal. Jorge only seemed to swim in worry as he felt guilty with not getting there sooner. The woman before him held back as she stuffed herself. The only reason she hadn't full out gone pig on him is because she didn't want to be rude. After dinner which was followed by dessert, he accompanied her back to the room she was staying in. She was on the second floor as he was up on the fifth.

The ground floor had the dining room which could be used as a ballroom, a kitchen, two powder rooms, a reception that was at the front door, and closet. The second floor had four guestrooms which connected to personal bathrooms. The third floor had contained the study. The rest of the house was fully unknown to her, except that Jorge slept on the fifth. There were two servant houses that were kept out of view with the trees. The girls and boys were separated and the staff they each had to share a room with a roommate which they declared wasn't bad. Alex smiled kindly at each one of them.

They were welcoming but they hovered with silly grins plastered onto their faces. Alex could see the wheels turning. For what reasons, were unknown to her. Jorge said goodnight and with a wave goodbye he disappeared up the stairs. Closing the door Alex searched for hidden staff members, in case they were hiding in her room, before changing and heading to the warmth of the covers.

Hope it was good and you enjoyed!

2: Stay
Stay

Alex had befriended most of the staff members there within the next morning. They were happy to assist her to anything she needed and vice versa. Jorge and her had talked a lot during her stay and they spent most time in the study. Their meals together were enjoyable and full of conversation. Alex though, felt uneasy and needed to let it off her chest so she visited Jorge in his study. Gray clouds blocked out the sun bringing a sober kind of feeling to the mansion. At first no one spoke. They walked among the garden's stone path.

The flowers in full bloom under the moist summer air. The colors mixed together to create a beautiful canvas upon the dark dirt. Alex stared in complete awe at the millions of flowers surrounded her. They all coexisted so well it was breath-taking. Jorge smiled at the sight before him. Looking up he watched the clouds darken to near black. No light shone through the cloud's large spread out mass. The promise of rain to come was soon to be fulfilled, he knew, but he'd stay out here with her as long as possible. Looking beyond the tree tops he observed the mass of clouds. The darkness must have reached past the town as well maybe to the city.

"Jorge. I don't want to be rude or disrespectful. I believe I have overstayed my welcome and should return home. I wouldn't-" Jorge spun around. All thoughts of pretty flowers and weather left. Now blocking Alex's path, her breath hitched. "Alex, of course you haven't overstayed your welcome. Please stay! I truly insist. You are no burden here." Jorge placed two strong hands on her petite shoulders to show the urgency in his rushed words. Nodding, "I like it here I do but I have no reason to stay..." Shaking his head, "Let me be your reason. Stay here with me for a little while longer. You make amazing company."

Smiling at the compliment they continued but this time a conversation had started up about the many flowers abloom. Jorge explained most type of flowers to her and some were even native to other countries such as Britain, Japan, and even all the way to a tiny island in the Philippines. They stayed out until the first drop hit their heads and they sprinted back to the house, laughing as the rain hit hard and fast. They reached the house soaked to the bone. They were led separate paths as the staff rushed to their laughing master and guest. Drying them with new clothes, warm liquids and a fire.

Alex took deep breathes as she began to breath for the first time after their fit. Letting the oxygen refresh her brain she prepared her questions that rose up from their slumber. Squirming in her seat she positioned herself comfortably. Jorge rose a questioning eyebrow as he waited for the unspoken words to be spoken. Jorge noticed in this silent moment that her skin seemed healthier, no longer white but a light brown. Like wheat bread only slightly toasted. It was a more welcoming and friendly tone to her skin that blended with into her features.

"So...I have questions." Jorge turned him-self so one foot was placed on the ground and the other tucked under him-self, he waited on her. "What happened that night?" Gulping Jorge looked into the heated blaze of her eyes. He noticed how on the surface of her irises you found a more vulnerable side, fragile. The deeper he looked he could find the slumbering determination, fearlessness, and stubbornness that rested until provoked. A fire ready to ignite with just the smallest spark. Sighing he looked towards the fire that warmed them to their core.

"Its late, Alex. Past ten to be exact. You need your rest." Standing he pulled her up and led her by her hand up the stairs to her room. Opening the door he led her to the center before spinning around. The blankets draped over their shoulders, refusing to drop to the floor. Bending down he silenced her protests with a peck to the forehead. Swiftly he walked out closing the door behind him.

Once closed Jorge stopped and fought off the urge to sink to the floor. Crap, I wasn't suppose to show affection. Not yet. Not until I know. Not until this is finished. I've only know her a day. These feelings should have never been here in the first place. Yet her heart still skipped a beat. Sighing Jorge pushed himself off the door he stumbled his way up to the fifth room. Jorge was drowning in the thoughts of scaring her off, freaking her out, pushing past her boundaries, and having a possible heartbreak. Every carefully planned step had just gone out the window. He was going to stumble in the darkness, the unknown of 'ifs' and fears.

He rested himself on the frame of his room, trying to breath under the mass of new stress. Turning tail he left the door cracked and headed down to the kitchen. Jorge reached for a blood pack from the basement before heading for a glass from a cabinet. He poured the red liquid in the cup and then down his throat. Setting down the glass he looked up to face a horrified Alex. Her green orbs now brimmed with tears and the thoughts that ran through her head showed through her eyes.

To his core Jorge felt it. To Alex she was betrayed, scared, saddened, and a slight disgust fluttered in her gaze. Turning her back to him he could feel her urge to scream for help. And most importantly, her urge to run. It brought out the predator inside him. Her fear seemed to power him and if she ran it just fuel him more. Jorge held down his predator, the animal inside him as he focused on logical ways to deal with this. But all seemed impossible. To her, he was nothing more than a monster now.

He'd give her credit. She was fast. He obviously faster. She made it out the back door and off the deck. Jorge tackled her to the ground. He had done it too roughly though as the fabric tore and the smell of blood filled his senses. This did nothing but anger him. Not at her but at himself. She had scraped both knees badly. They were large gashes since she landed right on the edge of the stone. Sliding her down the sharp edge and into the grass. She cried out in agony causing her attacker to wince in pain as well. Dirt filled her nails and her toes curled in fear.

The palm of Alex's hands were slightly scrapped but they burned as dirt seeped into them. Her attempts were to no avail. Her cries were unheard and every kick did nothing. Alex attempted to elbow him in the ribs but it only proved to bruise her. Looking up to the forest ahead Alex began to worm her way out of his death grip. This caused him to grip onto her tighter. Her once “thoughtful” escape was burned to ash. Her brave struggle decreased as the thought of betrayal suppressed itself upon her. Alex trusted him. Jorge betrayed her.

3: Stripping Away the Bloody Veil
Stripping Away the Bloody Veil

Jorge carefully pulled Alex up into a standing position. One arm around her waist kept her in place, to prove his point that she wasn't going anywhere he proceeded to slightly lift her off the ground. Her feet had not given up and kicked him in the shins, probably bruising her heels of her feet. She even swung one leg to hit him in the balls, his knee shot out to stop her leg's intended destination.

“Please let me go! I won't utter a word about you and I will never return!” Jorge froze at her words. Never return... To keep her from screaming he placed his other hand over her mouth. She attempted to bite him but that also proved to be unsuccessful.

Tears streamed down her cheeks and pooled over his hand, Jorge sighed as his heart twisted. He decide that since she knew he'd go, what he'd call, his normal speed. He was in his room with in seconds. Throwing Alex down on the floor with unnecessary roughness, Jorge slammed his door shut. With caution he bent down and crawl to where Alex sat. Curled up, Alex sat in a ball incoherent mumblings and silent sobs that filled the room. He used me. Saved me. Helped me. Befriended me all to kill me. Well, I hope he's had his fun now.

"Yes, I am a vampire. I will not hurt you, Alex." Yeah, I'm sure. "I'd rather die and I know you know that. Call me what you want, I'd never hurt you. You can leave if you want but…" Jorge stopped as she now looked up, tears stained her cheeks and her eyes weren't filled with fear as much as they were with betrayal. What shocked him was the confusion and curiosity that had her head cocking to the side as if trying to learn. Trying to understand what he is, who he is, and why he does things. He'd be tempted to say that she was looking at him like one would look at an animal in the zoo, but it was different somehow. She looked at him different like she didn't want him in that cage, wishing he wasn't in that cage. Wishing he wasn't what he actually was. In that moment, he wished that too.

"D-do y-you have..." Opening his mouth he slid his fangs out of their hiding place. As she gasped he closed it. "You don't feel cold though." It wasn't projected as a question but a statement. Her voice was still a whisper, but she had gained more confidence in speaking. "I can change my temperature to either zero or one hundred and five degrees fahrenheit. You could say its a special gift I have. Speaking of gifts I can even dream of upcoming danger." Alex seemed to relax as the conversation went on but she was tense, ready to spring into action at the moments notice.

"So you dream? Sleep?" Sighing Jorge scooted forward slightly. Now only a foot separated them. "Yes, I don't have to and the only dreams I have is because of my gift." Nodding Alex stared at the space before them. "We tend to be loners hence my reasoning for being alone. No others come to these woods or to the city, unless they are passing through." Alex stared at the floor still. Thinking carefully of the info given.

"So...facts from fiction." Quirking an eyebrow at her vague command, Alex continued, " What's fact. Like, are you burned by the sun...turn into a bat..." Laughing Jorge answered, " We do not turn into bats, silly. We are also not burned by the sun, just simply weakened by it. I'm sure you understand the other things like enhanced strength and speed. Any other questions?" An unspoken one lingered in her eyes, just on the edge of her tongue. "Yes, we do drink human blood, animal blood isn't strong enough to hold us but if wanted yes we can drink it."

"Is that why you wanted me to stay?" Jorge crossed the gap between them and slid his hand onto her cheek. "No. No. I haven't lied to you once. I want you here, you provide company, company that I enjoy," Jorge lightly wiped away tears on her cheeks, " I never drink from any one, a friend of mine supplies me from the hospital. Oh, Alex, I like you. I would never do such things to you, ever." Jorge planted kisses on her forehead and hair. "Never ever." Alex felt too weak to fight him.

Deciding it appropriate he carried her to the bathroom where he applied medicine to her scrapes. Alex hissed in pain and Jorge followed it every time with a string of soft spoken sorries. Alex tried to say sorry for the state of the clothes but Jorge brushed it off as his fault. He told her he had hoped to warm up to the touchè subject. Jorge asked her to stay put and she obeyed as he dashed off to get her new pajamas. Jorge let her have the privacy needed as she washed up and changed.

Eventually Alex nodded off to sleep. This new found knowledge had a great affect on her. Jorge knew it has rendered her tired, weak, and very much vulnerable. Setting her on the bed Jorge shuffled around the marble floor as he got ready for bed.

Alex woke up next to a warm figure. At first she snuggled in until a soft snore like sound emitted from the provider of warmth. This figure shifted against her. Fluttering open her eyes she found herself protectively wrapped in Jorge's arms. The covers were at their waists and she was molded unto his chest. The cold that touched her back was chased away by the heat that radiated off of him. With his eyes closed he seemed peaceful.

Alex wiggled an arm up so she could move a place of hair out of his face that had slid down and lightly touch his nose. The movement made him stir. Holding her breath, she felt him shift his head down into her hair. Her thoughts of a quiet escape vanished. With nothing more to do Alex let her green orbs close.

Jorge woke to the shifts caused by the small guest in his bed. He thought back to how a young maid had managed to sneak into his room and cuddled up next him. He kicked her out and fired her as soon as he saw her. The guest seemed different this time. Number one he had his arms wrapped around her and their was a familiar shape to this figure. It was when something shifted in his arms again that he snapped his eyes open. Anger flooded his senses turning his eyes blood red. Looking down he stopped in his tracks. Brushing the hair lightly back he found the sleeping beauty. Alex. Chuckling he held still as she shifted more comfortably before settling down.

Alex eyes fluttered open a second time that morning. Her pillow was comfy but it moved. And pillows don't move up and down. Looking up she found Jorge staring at the ceiling. Alex had her head right on his chest, Jorge had one arm around her slim form keeping her by his side. Alex contemplated whether to fake sleep or let her awakeness be known. It was decided for her as Jorge looked down. He looked quite flustered.

"My apologizes, Jorge. I don't mean to-" He silenced her with words of his own. "I'm sorry. If you'd like to leave you can now." Alex sat halfly up. She propped herself on her elbow, causing her hair to fall down past her right shoulder. Innocent forest orbs looked into his and he would have found himself blushing if he could. He knew he couldn't but he still felt the heat flood his cheeks at her innocent position.

"J-Jorge...I guess, I understand. I mean I'll leave and all but I'm not mad or scared now..." Sighing,  Jorge's voice was strained, "Disappointed? Disgusted?" Shaking her head she smiled sweetly. She was in fact unafraid now, no longer hurt, Alex saw his side, saw his own fear and understood.

"You were going to tell me soon right? After all you insisted I stay for days now. I think I have the right to know, right? You were scared of my reaction, I get that." Nodding with more enthusiasm Jorge asked her to stay for breakfast and with a wave goodbye she slipped out the door and down to her room. Jorge laid there still flustered at the akward moment. At least she took it well.

What was that look in his eyes?

4: Back To School
Back To School

Alex POV

I had met Jorge down stairs in the dining room where breakfast had already been laid out. I sat in my usual seat next to him but he never looked at me. We ate in complete silence. I felt like I was drowning. A big vast ocean. Of...nothingness. I tried to catch his eye but I never could hold his gaze. I shoved a large piece of bacon down my throat in an attempt to distract myself. It worked. But not the way I wanted it to. My throat closed on me and I was left coughing and spitting all over the place in an attempt to get rid of the bacon. I hadn’t noticed but Jorge had stood up and began to pat my back roughly. A few minutes later the large bacon piece flew out and landed back on my plate. He handed my napkin to wipe my face with.

“S-sorry.” Jorge smiled but said nothing. He sat back in his seat and continued to eat. I didn’t move. I sat there with the napkin still up to my face. I didn’t even try to eat the rest of my food. That caught his attention. Jorge sighed as he stood up. I watched him walk around and squat down by my chair. “Alex, you need to eat your food. If you're not feeling well we can get you gentler food,” his hand reached up and moved a strand of hair out of my eyes. I denied his offer with a shake of my head. “Alex, please. Please eat. You’ve barely touched your food. Is it me? Are you sick? What is it?” I cleared my throat and removed  the napkin preparing to speak.

“I’m not feeling well I guess. That bacon kind of did it to me. Excuse me.” I stood quickly and headed out into the hallways. I could tell he followed me. I could feel his presence behind me. I left my door open and crawled under the covers and curled into a ball. I heard the door click and saw as the bed dipped down under his weight. His hand rested on my head. “Alex, I’m sorry. I-” I sat up pulling the covers down so I could look at him. It wasn’t his fault. “It wasn’t your fault. I shouldn’t have stuffed a big piece in my mouth.” Chuckling he mumbled something under his breath and pulled me into a hug. I snuggled into his mysterious warmth, I felt oddly safe, but I didn’t feel like I should say it was odd. I just don’t know how to describe it. Weird? No. Odd? Strange? No...Right. This feels right.

I don’t remember falling asleep but when I woke the sky was high in the sky and I was alone in the room. I stood from the bed and made my way downstairs. The staff was out and about some back at the servant quarters, others in town, some working in the garden. I headed to where I saw some in the garden. “Miss Alex will you please grab the hose?” A blonde servant asked. She was at least twenty-five with a bob cut. Her brown eyes were kind and understanding. I nodded and she gently smiled at me before going back to weeding. I made my way towards the shed a couple of meters away. The hose was on the side so I began to unwind it and prepared to bring it back to the lady.

I handed it over and saw Jorge waiting for me at the steps. I followed him in and he led me to a car. I slid into the back. Before Jorge shut the door he left me with final words. “If you need anything you know where to find me. I’m sorry that this had happened to you, Alex,” he kissed my forehead and closed the door. Some of the servants stood on the porch waving goodbye as Jorge entered the home without a glance back.

The driver, whose name I have yet to know, drove me into the city and with my help found my apartment complex. I thanked him before sliding out of the car and heading up to my apartment. It was just as I left it. The fight that had taken place left almost everything thrown out of place and broken.

I got to work right away and began to clean up the glass. By sundown the place looked half decent. I checked my messages and found none. Nobody even knew I was gone for almost a week. How comforting. I slipped under my covers and let my mind drift to random topics until slowly but surely my lids closed.

The morning light drifted in telling me to get up. I knew something was up the minute I stepped into my living room. Everything had been replaced. The lamps no longer broken, the carpet cleaned to perfection, and the fact that an omelette sat freshly cooked on the counter. Jorge.

I laughed softly and got ready for the day. The omelette was the best dish I had ever encountered. The sun seemed to shine more brightly and everything was just amazing. That was until I entered my classroom and had to face my professors. That was miserable.

I was lectured until my ears could bleed not only on the lesson that day but missing a week of school. I apologized and made no excuse. What was I suppose to say? I got kidnapped by vampires and caught up in some feud. I don’t think so.

I sat in the library trying to study for a big test coming up in my chemistry class. Sadly there was a couple enjoying themselves a couple tables away. It was disgusting but my apartment isn't a library and at the moment I needed books. I quietly banged my head onto the table. That didn’t do anything but give me headache.

Groaning in frustration I was ready to slam my book shut and go home. That was until a strange presence filled the air. Someone had walked through the door. I knew that cause I heard footsteps coming closer and the door had just slammed shut. I watched as the figure moved through the aisles and came to rest in front of my desk.

“Hi, your Caitlynn right?” I opened my mouth to speak but he must have taken my surprised look as a yes for some odd reason. “They said you’d be here,” he handed me cash and my eyes widened at the realization. “So how do you prefer to do this?” I slammed my book shut before stuffing the cash back in his hands. “My name is Alex and the person you want is probably a couple tables behind me. Screw you.” I grabbed my stuff and stormed out into the evening air.

I took a deep breath before walking to the complex which was not far from campus. Fumbling with my keys frustrated me to no end and finally I slammed my door open. I threw my stuff on the floor by the table before kicking the door shut. Grabbing sweet tea from the fridge I pour myself a glass and sit down in an attempt to calm myself. After doing so I look in my full length mirror. I tug lightly at my clothes before looking back in the mirror. My clothes didn’t seem to scream slut. I don’t look like one either. I poked at my face some. I don’t wear excessive make up, my clothes are modest, and my hair is decent enough to be out in public. So what part of me screams slut?

Slowly I sat on my couch, clearly still upset over the whole ordeal even when I tell myself its no big deal. I open my books once again and began where I left off.

5: Bonding Visit
Bonding Visit

Alex awoke with her head on her coffee table and half her body stretched out on her plush creme carpet. Alex slowly moved her head already feeling the mistakes of her sleeping position. With her body dead sore and her eyes still drooping from sleep she wandered into her kitchen. Steadily she created herself a meal that could pass off as breakfast.

Getting ready for the day Alex took a quick shower and got dressed as fast as possible. With her hair still wet she packed up her things and ignored the pain that constantly shot through her neck. With the clouds blocking out the sun and the humidity so thick it was hard to breath. Alex shot across the road and over into the university.

Not really caring as wet strands of hair stuck to her and soaked into her shirt she made her way with few weird glances in her direction and made it to her first class in time to get a good seat. Fluffing her hair in an attempt to make it look better was in vain as more hair stuck to her.

Alex spent the rest of the day attempting to listen to the lesson and dodge people in the hallways. With a last sigh Alex sprinted out her class's door and to the exit. The sky let go earlier that day and hasn't let up. Alex sucked in a deep breath, made sure all books were covered in her waterproof bag and began to sprint. Her feet splashed in puddles, effectively soaking her shoes and the bottom of her jeans.

When she reached the road she was ready to cross until a loud horn had her jumping back. A red sports car pulled up, blocking her way to the road. "Alex, get in."

Bending down to look into the window she saw Jorge lightly smiling. Without question she jumped in. "You alright, you're soaked to the bone Alex!" Jorge laughed at her 'no duh' expression. Slowly he joined back into traffic and approached her apartment in no time.

"Thanks, Jorge. What are you doing in town?" Jorge looked at her before stepping out. Alex stepped out and met him at the front of the car. "To see you of course. Mind if I walk you up?" Alex nodded and they headed up. Jorge had wrapped his arm around her keep her warm.

"So Jorge I haven't got to know you to well." Jorge slightly tensed at the request but otherwise smiled. "What would you like to know?" They reached her floor and walked to her door. Alex opened it and gestured him in. "Sorry for the mess, mind if I change?" Jorge motioned for her to go. He walked around remembering the last he was here. The place had been a wreck. It was clear she put up one heck of a fight.

The plates were piled in the sink, books scattered across her coffee table. The place was a typical college student's apartment. "Sorry for the mess, I would have cleaned up and all if I had known." Jorge sat on the couch and he joined her. Ignoring her previous statement because honestly he didn't care if it was clean or not. "So what would you like to know?" Alex pondered a bit and asked about his life as a human.

Jorge explained he was born on October twentieth, 1739. It was twenty five years later that he was turned. How he was turned he couldn't remember. He was enlisted in the army, fighting for the colonists. Sadly he didn't live too long. They were fighting and had to retreat. Moving through the woods in hopes for cover they made a quick retreat. However the loyalists had been using cannon fire and he was caught up in the blast. Next thing he knew he awoke in a cave.

"I could tell I was different. I felt different, my senses tingled, and the burn. It was so powerful. I found the first thing I could sink my fangs in and drank. Later I realized what I had become and began to control it. It was difficult at first but I managed. After I was turned I left west to hid. Didn't last long until the colonists made their way west as well."

Alex sat next to him, her chin rested on her hand as she was listening. "So did you meet George, Jorge?" Jorge laughed and shook his head. "Afraid not. It would have been cool to do so but I didn't." Alex nodded. "So enough about my upcoming what about yours?"

Alex's expression shocked him. She straightened up in her seat and her face slightly paled. "My parents divorced when I was young but instead I was brought up under the care of my aunt. My parents didn't want me so they gave me off. I have had a few friends through school. I don't keep in contact with them though. I have met a nice girl named Sophia and her boyfriend Jack. Thats about it. Uneventful unlike yours." Jorge chuckled and wrapped an arm around her.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." She shrugged off his apology. Gasping at the time, which was seven o'clock, Alex shot up from her seat. "Oh man, you probably had things to do and I kept you here way too long. I'm so-"

"Its fine. I said it before, I came here to see you." Alex looked down at his calm, reassuring smile. Her face changed instantly from confusion to sudden realization. "You fixed my apartment." The statement made Jorge frown. He began to worry at her reaction which was just a blank face at the moment. "Well, yes it was my fault for the damage."

"You made me breakfast." She pointed an accusing finger in his direction. "Well...yes." Alex stood shocked. He had broke into her apartment, fixed everything, and made her breakfast. "What kind of robber are you?"

Jorge raised an eyebrow, confusion clearly written across his features. Alex continued, "You break in, fix everything instead of steal and then you made me breakfast. So I ask again what kind of robber are you?"

Jorge smiled and stood up, towering over her petite frame as usual. "Its late, Alex. You should continue your studies. Whenever you like please stop by the mansion. My staff and I would love to have you as a guest. My doors are opened to you whenever you are in need of them. Don't ever forget that." Nodding Alex hugged a very stunned Jorge.

"Thank you, Jorge. For being honest and kind to me.”

6: Weekend
Weekend

I laughed lightly at Jake’s inappropriate joke that had Sophia blushing crazily. Waving a quick goodbye I headed off to my apartment. I had an english and a history essay to do. I still had no idea what topic I was doing in my history one and I didn’t understand a thing in my stupid english book. With a frustrated sigh I threw my things by the couch.

I sat down with my face in my hands ready to cry. I hadn't even done my math and I was passed failing by now. May was fastly approaching and needed to pass my courses. I stood up and inwardly cursed as I hit the table. Plopping back down I held my knee close and kissed it a couple of times.

After my little incident I dug around my bag for my phone. I pulled it out and looked at the black screen. Pressing the button I looked at my butterfly background. Sighing I found myself in the contacts. I felt like I shouldn't since its been a week but I found myself pressing his number and putting the phone to my ear. The ringing kept going until finally a hello was heard. I held my breath feeling absolutely pathetic.

"Its Alex..." A long pause was heard and the ruffle of paper. "Alex?! What do you need? You alright?" I was shocked to say the least. He seemed so worried and I only said two words.

"Oh I'm fine I was just wondering if you could help me with some of my college courses. If your busy I totally get it, you are after all-"

"Alex do us all a favor, shut up and get over here. No wait just wait outside your complex," at this point I heard faint noises of doors being opened and shut," I'm coming to you so just wait." Without response the line went dead. Pulling the phone from my ear I looked at it in disbelief. It was only minutes before a knock was heard on my door. Opening it I looked at him. I blinked at him before stepping aside. He seemed as confused as I was.

"Let me get this straight. I say two words and you freak out asking if I'm okay. Tell me to shut up then hang up on me and now you're here...So tell me Jorge how do you think I feel?" He seemed to really think about it before answering.

"Yes I did do those things and I guess you're angry but do you want help or not?" I crossed my arms before grabbing my bag and following him out, huffing as I did so. I took in his slightly messy appearance. If he was human he'd be sure to have bags under his eyes. Being a gentleman he was he took my bag and even opened the doors for me. Once we got to his mansion we set to work on finding topics for my essays. English didn't seem so hard when he explained it.

History wasn't bad, he helped me with the historical battle of my choosing(of course it was from the Revolutionary War) and helped me start of with a good introduction. Math however was a very different story.

"No! No! No! Listen Alex you subtract that then multiply." Whining I erased my previous work and following his instructions, I re-did it. Sighing I finished the last problem still not understanding a thing. Jorge rubbed my back in comfort when I buried my head in my hands.

"Gosh I feel so pathetic, I'm going to cry. I needed help with my history and english essays and I don't even get the math problems and people at school think I'm a slut-" I straightened up as soon as the words left me. My eyes wide and I slammed a hand over my mouth.

You know, now that I'm thinking about it, slamming your hand over your mouth never helps but maybe people do it, myself included, to stop more stupid things from spilling out. Back at hand I took the chance to look at Jorge. And may I say that even Jake never has and never will match the anger that spread across Jorge's face.

His hand on my back fisted my shirt and he tried to take controlled breathes but it all seemed in vain. I looked around with my eyes in hope to find something or get an idea of what I should do to calm him down. So I did. I pretended to gasp in pain and whimpered in fear. This snapped him out of his seeing red phase.

"I'm so sorry Alex its just," he tucked a red strand of hair behind my ear before continuing, "How did they mistake you?" I shrugged and looked away. "Jorge do I, like, wear excessive make up?" I met his gaze and he shook his head. "Do I wear showy clothes that show off-" I was pulled into a hug by Jorge.

"Don't let it get to you Alex. You are a modest woman. Never doubt that." I nodded half heartedly. Snuggling into his warmth I closed my eyes enjoying the comfort that always seemed to come with Jorge. I felt his chin on my head and I heard a big intake of breath.

"If you're smelling me I have to say...please don't eat me." I heard his quiet laughter. Jorge held me closer. Fisting his shirt in my hand I let myself drift off. "Stay here Alex if just for one night or possibly the weekend?"

Without thought I nodded. "Weekend."

7: My Warmth
My Warmth

Alex awoke in a room not her own. The room itself seemed familiar but no memory came. She was still in yesterday's clothes. Her head rested lightly on someone' shoulder and their arm securely holding her by the waist.

Slowly a smile crept onto her face as she inhaled his addicting yet similar smell deeply. With her hand on his chest fisted in his shirt she buried herself in his shoulder.  Alex felt his head shift towards her exposed ear. His breath sent shivers down her spine and what happened next made her freeze in embarrassment.

"If you're smelling me I have to say...please don't eat me," the amusement in his voice was clear and enough to have Alex's face flare red. With a huff she hit his chest playfully and closed her eyes.

She could feel him shift so that they were face to face. Jorge exhaled causing her to shiver again at the odd warmth provided. When a chuckle filled the air she turned out of his grasp with her eyes still closed and ignored how his mouth rested on her clothed shoulder.

"Don't be mad I'm just teasing you but you didn't deny smelling me so I guess you like my smell huh? Which is okay too because I love your smell. Mmmh I just love your yummy smell." To prove his point he lightly licked her exposed skin.

Alex jumped out of the bed and grabbed the lamp. "No! No! No! I do not do licking people. This...um...friendship is over. You have crossed the line and I am now leaving!" Jorge grinned widely before spreading himself horizontally on the bed. With his head hanging off the edge he looked up at her.

"So we are in a relationship now?" The deeper the blush the bigger the grin. "N-no! You weirdo! I am leaving." Setting down the lamp she turned and sprinted to the door. His laughter sounded behind her as she reached the kitchen to find it empty.

"Vacation." Alex turned to face Jorge with mouth agape and eyes wide. He was still grinning as he stalked toward her. "No need to worry dear I will stop harassing you. Breakfast?" She looked at him before nodding. Keeping the island between them they stayed silent as Jorge cooked.

It wasn't long until the eggs and bacon were laid before her. With his piercing eyes on her she took a bite. "It's not poisoned or drugged for Pete's sake, Alex! I'm not a horrible person and I'm sorry I had licked you. I was only teasing you...then again I thought a heard a moan escape-"

"Shut up!" With a huff she stuffed eggs into her mouth and glared at him while chewing. Jorge smiled innocently as he continued, "You have denied nothing my dear." This time a bacon strip hit his forehead. He threw it away and waited for her to finish before escorting her up.

When they reached the guest room that had become hers she blocked the doorway with her head bowed. Jorge waited anxiously for what she had to say. She mumbled something but not able to catch it he waited for her to repeat it.(*wink wink*)

"No more sexual harassment... I don't like it." Her face was burning hot and she kept her eyes to the floor. With a smile he kissed her scalp. "Of course...I was just teasing you, but I am serious you smell and taste just so-"

Slamming the door in his face she shouted from behind it, "You are unbelievable!!!" Jorge laughed and headed for his own room to change for a day with Alex.

They spent most of the day in the study. They were somewhat productive. Alex insisted in making a book house in which she hid during 'harassment time'. It was hard sneaking around without getting caught especially when she finished a book and needed another.

To keep Jorge away from the book house Alex sprinkled salt around it and even though it did nothing it was fun to pretend. Jorge being the big bad monster...this feels like red riding hood. Which in fact they did, after finding a red table cloth they played a role playing tag game which ended with Alex threatening to use pepper spray she found in a kitchen drawer.

Eventually in the evening they found themselves outside walking amongst the flowers. They strolled in comfortable silence before Alex suggested a hike in the woods. Tugging on his arm she dragged him to the edge before heading on before him.

"Alex slow down will you?" Jorge stayed two paces behind her as she jogged around the trees. They found a small creek where Alex found tadpoles. Laughing at her as she failed at catching one while he effortlessly scooped one up in his hand.

Alex's face lit up at the sight of the little thing. Setting down back in the water Jorge laughed, "You like frogs?" Pouting she stuck her tongue out before looking back at the small critters.

"I like nature." She barely breathed the words as she was caught up in a passing rabbit. Jorge licked his lips at the creature in front of him. "Don't eat him!!" Alex moved in front of him and Jorge growled playfully as he kept his eye purposely on the furry creature. Alex threw a stick near it and it took off in fright ruining Jorge's fun.

"Aw come on Alex it would have been harmless fun. No need to be worked up on it." Alex's back was rigid as she didn't turn around. Shoving her hands in her pockets she walked off back towards the house.

"Yeah harmless fun cause you just toy with lives...you don't eat animals anyway..." Alex hugged herself as she walked away. Jorge caught up quickly and turned her around. Tears were welled up in her green orbs and she lightly sniffled.

"Sometimes its hard to remember what you are. You act so normal and so kind and then it all comes back at once what you are. You seem like a carefree kind business man but in reality-" Jorge hugged her tightly.

"I'm sorry Alex I was just joking I never meant to...I didn't know you felt that way. I would have never asked you to stay or keeping popping up like I do I just wanted you… I thought it be okay to have somebody beyond my staff. Don't get me wrong I love them like family but-" Alex clung to him in understanding.

"Gosh I am so pathetic I mean I get worked up on the smallest things and I don't know I just don't like gory violent things like that." She pulled away slightly to smile up at him. Jorge smiled too before leading her back to the house.

"We are a total mess are we not? I mean come on we get worked up on everything and I guess you picked the wrong friend to have, my kind is the breed for gore and violence and just everything like that. We are the shadows in the world."

Laughing Alex held his hand as they left the woods and entered the yard. Walking up to the double doors Alex added, "Yeah, you're my warmth in the shadows."

Jorge smirked. Alex had no idea how his heart fluttered but he heard her's miss a beat.

8: Unknown Intentions
Unknown Intentions

Jorge POV

I grumpily drove Alex home and left her to her own devices. She had school Monday and she needed Sunday to prepare for her upcoming classes. That night would be the first of many sleepless nights.

As soon as I hit the pillow the dreams bombarded me instantly. They were going for her again. I had no clue where they were but they headed through the shadows and ducking through alleyways. They left bodies as they went from time to time.

Her apartment came into a hazy view and the shadows rested, unmoving. They must have been mobilizing or tracking. They already know where she lives so what's the problem. What are they really looking for?

Soon enough two college students entered my vision. Alex had described them to me. Sophia and Jack. Panic surged through me. Brought back to my dark room I wasted no time in moving. They weren't hard to find anyway. The movie theater was packed at this hour and from my perch in a nearby roof I watched them enter.

I waited and waited and then I saw it. The shadows began to move at high speeds. Almost unnoticeable to the human eye. They went still again. Dancing across the streets and keeping from the lights they waited as well.

When they stilled again I knew they knew I was here. Whoever was running this scheme knew what to do. Knew me. Knew my strength and sadly my new weakness. This person knew Alex's friends, where she lived, school, work, everything. My fingers curled into fists as a low snarl ripped out into the open air.

The vampires below moved fast as if wondering what to do. As if a signal was called out they stilled. Slowly retracted further into the city's walls, they left. They knew they were no match for me. Just that simple arrogant thought made my lips curl in a smirk.

Then the more rational side whispered that just maybe they had a new target or they will try again. As soon as the young couple exited I ran with the car, as slow as it was, and gladly made sure no shadows followed.

Calmer than before I made my way to Alex's apartment. It was midnight, only half the moon was out tonight. The clouds continued to streak across the sky without worry or even a thought of hesitation.

No light came from her windows and the steady rhythm of her heart beat told me she was sleeping. I sat for a while on her roof just listening to everything around me but mostly focusing on her heart.

Instead of running I walked back to my secluded home. Elisa, an elderly woman who worked in my kitchen, was there to greet me. Opening the door she welcomed me back with a smile.

I sat at my table and Elisa brought out a glass of blood. "What's the matter, Boo?" I smiled at the old nickname but the thoughts of tonight came flooding back and the smile dropped.

"I don't know who they are, what they want with me, what they want with Alex...I mean I never knew her before all this. I just knew that this group took some human girl and I needed to get her back. She has nothing to do with this and now....now she does." I hung my head low as my thoughts twirled.

My head shot up when I felt the thinned skin hand touch my cheek. "Oh my poor Boo, do not fret. Don't you think that maybe they took her randomly. Like it was a failed trap. Or maybe they wanted you to feel something for a later trap. But I like my former idea better," she smiled and walked away back to the headquarters for my staff.

I drank the glass dry before having a second and then the blood in my cup changed to Brandy as I drowned each glass. I never could get drunk no matter how badly I wanted to which probably is why I drink all night long in the first place.

No amount of alcohol could keep my problems away nor Elisa's words. Was it really a failed trap or have I been snared to a much more dangerous and hidden one?

9: Meu Amor
Meu Amor

The week flew by for Jorge. He sat every night on her roof, waiting, watching, listening for anything to give away that they had returned. Sadly not much had happened. The only thing that really happened were the endless questions that seemed to build up.

Dawn was coming and he headed off for home. Jorge then realized his foolishness. Very few times as he ever seen a vision while awake and with eyes open but he did. Pushing himself to the max he found his doors open. Rushing in he found his staff sprawled across the place. Some lay unconscious in the kitchen, some out in the yard, most were in the middle of their regular routine of cleaning.

A familiar smell his his nose and it all came back. That one scent answered most if not all of his questions. He was back. He wanted revenge. Though Jorge was practically innocent in this drama he knew that he didn't think that way.

Carrying each staff member to their rooms he laid them to rest before inspecting the rest of the place. It looked like he came in and then left because Jorge wasn't there. Sighing he made himself a glass of blood before heading for bed.

Jorge laid there restless to his core. Tossing and turning he moved off for a small walk in the woods. Catching the man's scent Jorge saw red and followed. There he was on the other side of the creek. The same creek that Alex and him had visited. He was hunched over the water holding a tadpole in his grasp. To anybody it seemed like a small peaceful encounter with the rays of morning sunshine glistening onto the water. This, however, was simply the tense calm before the raging storm.

Sensing a new presence he let it go. Straightening himself he smiled slightly. "Jorge, my dearest friend, you like Alex huh? She's quite the bea-" Jorge flung himself across the creek ramming the man into the nearby tree.

"Shut up Jack! What do you want with her?!" The man, named Jack, grinned. Slightly pushing Jorge off him he dusted himself. "Please Jorge...Do you find it interesting that her best friend's boyfriend's name is Jack. Plus who said I wanted her? Maybe I do, maybe I don't. However you seem so territorial over her. Interesting turn of events huh?"

Jorge stilled before growling. He had no time for games. He would end this today. Jack hurt Alex, stalked her friends, and hurt his staff members. History will not repeat. Lunging again they slammed into trees. Wrestling through the forest they tore up anything in their path. Growls and the snapping of teeth echoed through the forest.

Jorge grabbed a hold of his arm and pulled on it hard. Popping out his shoulder Jorge twisted it until he heard a snap. Jack's howl of pain wasn't unheard and it only fueled our now red eyed vampire. The fight continued onward in a never ending struggled. Jorge had the upper hand with raw strength and adrenaline. Jack laid helpless like a sheep in the wolf's den.

Jack finally escaped his grasp at last and sped off into the cover of the woods. Jorge's chest puffed out with every deep inhale he took. Back straight like a prideful lion he growled once before returning home. As he passed the creek Jorge stopped. Smiling slightly he could see Alex crouched down by the creek and then disappeared into the breeze.

Alex was currently listening to Sophia gush over the movie date with Jack. Alex attentively listened to every detail. Other than smiling and laughing at appropriate times she mostly stayed quite. The mall was packed with people and the food court, even more crowded.

It was hard to hear but she got the important parts like how he held her hand and how close they sat next to each other. Even giving the details of the passionate kiss on the porch. Once they finished eating and Sophia took a breather. After Alex showed her the time, both women grabbed their bags and raced to the car. Sophia dropped off Alex around nine at night before heading home herself.

Setting down the bags, the red head grabbed the broom and headed to her window. Opening it up Alex stuck her head out. Finding the same feet there again she took the broom and hit his foot. She smiled as she ducked back in. He followed suit and they stood face to face.

"Why are you on my roof every night, Jorge?" He smiled sheepishly before laying down on her bed. With broom in hand she mischievously poked his ribs and a couple times his cheek. "You were not invited to take a nap! Come on why are you here?"

Sitting up his face was rigid. "Alex, its nothing really." He tried to smile but she saw through it just like always.

"Are they back? The same people who got me the first time?" Patting the spot beside him Alex took the invitation. Slinging an arm around her shoulder Jorge hugged her to his side comfortingly. "They won't get you a second time. I swear."

Alex nodded, believing everything he said. "I thought it best to watch out for you until this is done." Alex sighed, "So the reason you wanted me to stay..." Jorge shook his head and tucked her head under his chin.

"I need to protect you, Alex. It was my fault to think this won't come back to bite. You are a wonderful person so do not worry. You do make amazing company after all you smell so-" Alex jumped from her spot. Grabbing the groom she wielded it like an expert. After a few rounds of beating the man she took off to the kitchen.

Jorge followed cautiously. Peeking around the corner he found the place empty. Alex's smell lingered and grew stronger as he sneaked his way towards the couch. Passing the furniture he found himself in front of a closet. Her heart beat was quite fast. As fast as possible he ripped open the door and stole the broom.

With Alex defenseless he proceeded to grab the laughing girl. Flung over his broad shoulder like a potato sack, Jorge made his way to her room. Alex was ungracefully dumped onto the bed. The covers flung over her form and hid her from view. Sitting on the edge Jorge looked down at the lump.

"Goodbye, Alex." The covers moved and green eyes peered at him, totally confused. Patting her head he got up before stopping at looking down at her. Alex's eyes stared directly at him, unwavering. A petite hand pushed out of the covers. With the palm open, inviting him to stay, she beckoned him back to his spot.

Once he sat and took engulfed her hand with his she spoke. "I believe in you, Jorge. I know this is not your fault. I realize that. I'll keep believing that you'll protect me and everyone you care deeply for. We all believe in you. Especially me." With parting words she let go of his hand, releasing him to go.

Perching himself on the window sill he turned to her still form in the dark. Smiling lightly he waited for her eyes to land on him. Once he had her attention Jorge waited for the green to disappear in the dark. Knowing she was asleep and safe within her protective walls of the apartment he whispered sweet words.

"I won't let you down, Alex. Stay safe, meu amor."

Aww he said she was his love how sweet! Can't wait for the nightmares, kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder to begin ;D JK...maybe I am...maybe I am not!
