Where to begin, all about me!

April 6th, 2014

I don't know where to begin.  I guess I should start with an introduction. My name is Avangeline Rose Sinclair. But all my friends call me Ava or they would if I had any friends.

I move...a lot. So, I rarely have the opportunity to settle into a place and start putting down roots, you know? But I think this place will be different. I just moved to small town, so small Google Maps can hardly find it.

It has two stop lights that are about fifty feet from each other, and that is really it. There is a small grocery store just on the edge of town and a post office. They have a barber and a few gas stations, but no malls or outlet centers.  No eat-in restaurants or shops. In fact, it is a half hour drive to the nearest WALMART.

There is a high school, but I won't be attending. I graduated from high school. I am a University student now. Not that it really matters. I attend online so it isn't like I will make any friends through it. And I am going to be an immortal, so a degree won't be good forever when I still look like I am in my twenties but it is from eighty years in the past.

Oh yeah! I'm a witch. That is probably an important bit of information for you. I'm pretty basic level at the moment. I can make things fly, can make plants grow, and can stay up all-night without any side effects. I am getting stronger every day. Which means my ceremony will be coming soon.

The ceremony has a really fancy, old name but it is kind of hard to spell and really, what does it matter what it is called? The point is that it is coming up.

You see, witches don't get their powers until they "come of age". So if puberty wasn't a complicated enough time for people, they have to deal with other more magical changes as well. Like eye color. My eyes are now the color of a plum, a deep purple. Nah! I'm just kidding.

They're blue, like they always were. But that would be kind of cool, right?

There are changes, though. Like it becomes increasingly difficult to get a hair cut. Witches heal and "regenerate" so quickly that if you don't get your hair cut the proper, witchy way then it will just grow out again the next day. Same with coloring your hair, it has to be down the right way or you might as well save the $10 - $20 you were going to spend on the dye.

Anyway, I heal pretty quickly. But it isn't really more than just a really fast healing human. As I get older and stronger, it becomes more and more outside the norm.

Not that there is anyone who would notice. I live alone. That is what happens when you turn 16 in witch world. You get kicked out and have to go find your own way. Some of the customs that we practice are outdated. When this. First became a custom it was normal for young kids and pre-teens to live a lone. Heck! Some were married by the time they were 16.

But now it just seems kind of weird.

I guess, reading back, I still haven't said very much about myself, have I?

I mean, you know my name and that I'm a witch, but not much else. I also have barely talked about the ceremony thing. The whole witch-issue will take a lot of time to cover, so for now I will just go back to talking about all that is ME.

I am Avangeline Sinclair, as I said. I am a witch, you know this as well. I am 20 years old and, as you may have guessed, a young woman. I am a University student at an online school where I am majoring in English...or History. I feel both would be some what useful if I am going to live forever, because math and science is always changing as we learn more, but the past pretty much stays the same. It has already happened it can't be changed....

Well...it can, but that takes a pretty powerful witch and I doubt they're going to go back to change Shakespeare.

Let me think...is there anything else? I like cats. And dogs.

Oh, I move a lot because I want to find a place that I can settle down for a few hundred years. Small towns, I thought, would be harder for this. However, the city was not easy either. I mean, I thought it would be. With some many people rushing around it seemed like I could easily just be one face in a crowd.  But, that also meant that I wouldn't know anyone at all. It was too anonymous.

I think a small town will be better. After all, from what I have gathered, a lot of the kids and teenagers leave when they grow up and either come back years later or don't come back at all and are replaced with no families. So, there would be turn over and I could still meet people.

Hypothetically, that is. Hopefully it will work! Fingers crossed.

Anyway, I think that will be all for now. Next time, I will talk more about being a witch and the ceremony.
So...stay tuned!

2: The Ceremony and Witch Issues.
The Ceremony and Witch Issues.

April 7th, 2014

So, I said I would talk about this stuff and now here you are waiting to find out what is going on and what it is I am talking about.

The Ceremony is basically when a witch gets to be so powerful that they can no longer continue as they were. You see, as I said before, witches gain power over time, that is to a point. When they get to a certain level of power they hit a sort of buffer where they have to choose between becoming more powerful and immortality.

It was an evolutionary thing, I guess, to keep witches from being mega powerful AND immortal, so we have to choose. Now, most witches choose more power. After all, they want to be the tip-top person. They want to have it all: money, fame, big house, nice car, and power (both magical and otherwise). I don't really see a need for all that.

I never find myself to weak to do anything that I want. As far as I am concerned, I already have all the power I need. I can use magic to "connect to the internet" without any actual internet. (Which is really cool, but feels...weird.) I can fix broken headphones. I can change red lights to green. I can make things load faster.

I really can't see anything else I would want to use magic for.

I'd like to clarify at this point that witches can neither teleport nor fly. That is a different type of Fae that has gone extinct, or at least dormant, after the invention of planes and other flying things.

Also, some witches have specialties. My specialty is plants! Not really, I kill plants and then have to use magic to make them grow again. And then die again. I feel like it is almost cruel to keep plants when they have to live through this.

My actual specialty is sleep. Yes, sleep. Sounds weird, doesn't it? But it is actually kind of cool. Basically, I never get tired. I never need sleep. I can give someone energy, like make them feel like they have slept. I can make people fall asleep.

A new, more recent aspect that I have developed along with this is with dreams. I can change people's dreams, control my own, and even watch people's dreams. This sounds kind of creepy and, to be honest, it is. But it can be useful, like when I was baby-sitting and the kids had a nightmare, I could change it so it wasn't scary. I actually didn't know I could do this until someone fell asleep in class, I touched them on the shoulder to wake them up and totally walked right into their dream. It was pretty cool.

There are lots of different types. In fact, some witches have specialties within specialties. Like a dream specialty over a sleep specialty. Which would probably be even creepier, they could manipulate people in their dreams or blend the lines between dreams and reality...gives me the chills just thinking about it.

Recently, a tech-witch has come out. They are basically like Hackers, except they don't even need a computer to cause damage. Friends' of my parents have a son that is a tech-witch. Which I think is just unfair. Basically he can just touch an ATM and it starts shooting out money. Also, he looks like really hot. I mean...really, really hot.

He is a total jerk though. Plus, he actually does do that to ATMS, which is a crime. And crimes are bad.  He is bad...in a hot...bad boy with a leather jacket and a motorcycle kind of way...

Anyway, he is off-limits for so many reasons. And when he goes to his ceremony in a few months, he is going to choose more power rather than immortality. So, he will die long before I will. Which would put some strain on our relationship, of which I would probably be spending half in jail for robbery.

I have never actually been to a ceremony before. I was invited to his, but I've heard that the ceremony itself is kind of disturbing and so I think I am just going to wait until mine to deal with that.

I don't know how much longer it will be until I hear from them. Wes, hot tech-witch, says that you just know. Like an e-vite that goes right to your mind. Which sounds really weird, but also really kind of cool.

I don't know what else there is to cover. There is not about witches that is firmly known. It is a lot of speculation and myth. And I don't even know those, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Anyway, that is all for now!

Tomorrow I am going into town, so stay tuned!

3: Into Town and a Hopsital Bed.
Into Town and a Hopsital Bed.

April 9th, 2014

So, I am sorry I didn't post yesterday. I cannot even describe to you how chaotic it was. As I mentioned in my last post, I went into town. Except what this actually entailed was walking by three houses to the main street. The main intersection at the ice cream place and gas station, was pretty quiet. The light wasn't working, so I guess that is a good thing.

I walked a block further and passed the laundry mat, barber shop, post office, bank, a closed store, a pharmacy, and a Chinese fast-food place. With all these places of business, I saw maybe seven people. It was actually kind of eerie.

I then kept walking around town. I thought that maybe there was a party or event somewhere, so if I walked around I might find it. But, I didn't.

I did pass a few teenagers smoking in the graveyard as they babysat their younger siblings who were playing on the playground of the school. Yes, the school and cemetery are right next to each other. They are practically on top of each other, which I thought was kind of creepy.

After spending most of the morning look for people, and finding few, I decided to drive into the next town over. Still small, but not quite as small. It has a movie theater with three cinemas, a McDonald's, thrift shops, real restaurants, and quite a few small shops.

There were a lot more people. In fact, there was a giant mob of people on the sidewalk protesting. Apparently, the movie theater is being closed down to make way for a Target. Something people clearly find upsetting.

Thinking back, I should have gone over and joined them. I mean, I don't have particularly strong views about the situation, but it would have been a good chance to meet people.

But, instead, I decided to keep driving and found myself at bar/restaurant. It was about lunch time, late lunch really, and I was getting hungry.

Now this is when I would like to point out that when I said chaotic, I meant that it actually involved chaos. I just don't know what happened exactly. You see, I remember walking in. I remember ordering. Then, there is a loud sound that sounds like a hundred glasses hitting the floor at once. Then, next thing I know I am waking up in hospital.

I hit my head. Apparently. Not that I could dispute that.

The police were there, they asked me a lot of questions about some guy that I may or may not have seen and they vaguely explained what happened. According to other witnesses, a man who started drinking at 9 a.m. and had not stopped or slowed down. When he was cut off, he became agitated. Another customer tried to calm him down, and it didn't go well. Things escalated, drunk man threw a punch, and then they went into an all out brawl.

Along with two others not involved in the fight, I had been caught in the cross fire.

But, the good news is that I met someone that might work out to be a good friend. He lives in the same town, different street. He was the bartender at the restaurant. We are about the same age, though he is obviously a bit older if he can serve alcohol.

He had been caught in the scuffle, as well. He was sweet. He offered to take me on a tour of the town sometime, which would be great. Because, even though it may not be big enough to really get lost, I still feel lost.

It was so nice of him to offer. I guess what they say about people being nicer to their neighbors in small towns is true.

Anyway, I am going to go cut this post shorter than usual, because my head still hurts and I think I am starting to see little floating dots.

I do have important stuff to tell you, lots of stuff. Trust me, it will be cool.

So...stay tuned!
