Protector of Sorda

Introduction

My name is Scan, pretty weird name I know. But in this year, 2688, it’s a cool name. Times have changed after most of the Earth’s resources had been depleted; humanity became less and less attached to technology. Electricity was used for more insignificant things lately, and after magic had been discovered and new animals emerged, the schools changed as well. No more academics. The schools have evolved into Combat schools. You would think that this is pretty awesome. You’d think right, this is pretty awesome!

The Schools are divided into six sections:

Learner Section: When you start with school, age eight, you start with Learner Section. This section is actually only there to make you school ready and usually lasts only about two weeks, depending on student. After completion of the Learner Section, the students are moved to the Junior Section.

Junior Section: In this section, the students are taught all about the world and its dangers and of its history. They study the different animals that inhabit the planet as well as take a look at the different kinds of magic and combat tactic. The Junior Section is all about learning from textbooks and videos and lasts anywhere from four to eight years. Students are then promoted to the Senior Section.

Senior Section: Is the main section of a school. Most students stay in this Section until they are 21 years of age (The maximum age for this section), and then they either join up to be an instructor or leave the school. Students that excel in this section can be advanced to the Promoted Section.

Promoted Section: The promoted Section is the Schools rapid response team that are always sent into battles first. If a student is lucky enough to further advance, he or she would join the Guardian Section.

Guardian Section: The Guardian Section is also known as the schools military force and guards. They are tasked with keeping the school safe. Then lastly, the very few that pass the Guardian Section, will be promoted to the Hero Section.

Hero Section: These Students work directly under the school headmaster himself and are sent out on highly dangerous missions. They posses nearly flawless skill in what they do.

History has it that there was a boy that transcended through the rankings so fast that a joined the Hero Section at age thirteen. You might ask, am I that boy?

No… I’m already sixteen years old and I’ve just only finished the Junior Section. I study hard so if I didn’t have dyslexia I would have been able to advance years ago but what’s done, is done right? But now the combat starts!

Well… Not right now. Anyway, this is my first day as a senior at Sorda School of combat.

Chapter 1 - Senior Section

Chapter 1

Senior Section

I woke up through the screeching of the same alarm that has ruined my mornings for the past eight years. I got up, still a little sleepy and I looked around my dorm. It was empty; I packed my few belongings the night prior to this and other than that, I didn’t share this dormitory with anyone and quite frankly, I liked being alone. Other people usually annoy me.

I walked over to my packed traveling bag and pulled it behind me on its wheels out the door.

I closed the door and smiled. “Time to show them what I am made of”

I followed the hallway in the opposite direction which I would usually walk to class for I was heading to the Senior Section’s entrance.

I finally arrived in a medium sized room with a balcony on the one side and at the far end of the room were huge metal doors, the doors leading to the Senior Section. Including me, we were seven students standing in the room. This was getting exciting until…

A boy approached me. He was quite shorter than me and wore a baseball cap that was facing backwards. He stood in front of me.

“Hey, hey! I’m J to the D, JD” stated the boy

“Are you kidding me? Who the hell greets like that? See, this is why I said other people usually annoy me.”

“Uh… Hey… I’m Scan”

“Scan huh? So, are you going to the Senior Section?” JD asked

“What? No, I’m just standing here with a traveling bag admiring the big metal door. Of course I’m going to the Senior Section!”

“Yeah… I am”

“Cool, me too”

“I know… Why else would you be here?”

Reluctantly I replied “I’m glad”

“Well nice to meet you Scan”

“I really hope that I don’t have to meet each student here.”

“Nice to meet you too”

JD wanted to say something else, but was interrupted by the sound of someone appearing on the balcony. It was Sorda School of Combat’s headmaster, Headmaster Case.

He was assumedly in his early fifties and had short brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a brown overcoat over his white button shirt and wore horn rimmed glasses.

“Welcome to you all!” He bellowed proudly. “I am hereby glad to pass all seven of you on to the Senior Section and I hope that this will only be the start of your success. Make me proud my students. Take on every day as Sorda himself would have…”

Sorda was the founder of this school over a few hundred years ago.

My mind wandered off in thought and before I knew it, everyone was applauding the end of Headmaster Case’s speech.

Awkwardly I started clapping at the end of the applause and I had no idea why I was actually clapping.

“Hello, my name is Listy and I am an instructor”

A female not much older than me stood in front of the huge metal doors. She had long straight black hair and bright blue eyes.

Listy held in her hand a remote control which only had one button on it. We approached her and she smiled.

“Welcome to the Senior Section” she said while pressing the button.

Immediately gears could be heard hard at work to open the gigantic doors. The doors began to open and you could feel the wave of excitement that rushed over everyone.

“This was it. This was what I had been waiting for.”

The doors completely opened up and we all stepped into the Senior Section.

The entire Senior Section was built upon a lake, a clean sky-blue lake with all sorts of fish swimming in it. The roof stretched very high up. In the Centre of the Senior Section was a single tall round building which was revealed to be an elevator. The elevator shaft as being the centre of everything had a platform surrounding it. From that platform there were eight bridges leading away in different directions to all sorts of buildings. Each one of the bridges had a name, such as North Bridge, Northeast Bridge etcetera.

We were currently standing on the South Bridge. A few of the students rushed to the bridge’s glass railing to admire the crystal clear water below.

“Unreal” uttered one of the students

“Yeah, I guess this is pretty amazing.”

Listy seemed to be enjoying the delighted look on everyone’s faces, even I cracked a smile.

“Follow me” Listy commanded us students.

Listy walked further down the South Bridge towards the elevator and we all followed suit. We came to a stop in front of the elevator where we were met by a two other instructors. I could tell that they were instructors because they all wore instructor uniforms, the same as Listy.

The instructors started calling out names and the students which were called out by them were led up the elevators.

Only I, JD and Listy remained.

Listy read from a document she was holding.

“JD,”

“I’m here” JD jumped up and flailed his arms around as if she would look passed him.

“Right,” she said in a confused voice “And Scan?”

“Yeah…” I said without too much enthusiasm.

“Okay, right, you two, I will be your Senior Section instructor” Listy said gleefully.

“Alright man!” JD hit me in the back harder than he meant to, causing me to take a reluctant step forward.

“We’re gonna have class together!”

“Yay me!”

I remained silent.

“Follow me, you two” Listy broke the silence.

We got into the elevator with our luggage.

Above the button panel of the elevator was a rough plan of the Senior Sections Floors. I studied the sign.

There were four floors and a basement. The basement was underneath the lake and took up extremely much space. It was safe to say that the basement covered the entire school’s bottom. It had to take up that much space because it had a storage room for each student in the Senior Section and above as well as at computer systems on which you can buy things online.

The First floor was the floor where we were on now. The Second floor was the dormitories floor and the Third floor, was the floor where all the classrooms were. The final floor, Fourth floor was the Headmaster’s floor, his home and office.

Ting went the elevator. We have arrived at the second floor. Listy stepped out and we followed.

In front of us stretched a long hallway than had sub-hallways protruding from its sides. Each sub-hallway were marked with a letter from A to Z. Each sub-hallway had rooms numbered from 1 through 26.

“Since you already seem to know each other, I’ve got good news for the both of you; you will be roommates” She said with a delight.

“Oh please no!”

I slowly turned my head at JD and he was smiling at me in a retarded fashion. I then again slowly turned my head back.

“Someone save me now.”

“Here’re your keys and abilitires”

“gimme gimme!” JD was hopping around like a caffeine overloaded squirrel.

Me on the other hand? I took my key and the bracelet I also received. It was a plain black bracelet that had a slot on the top.

“What’s this?” I asked Listy

“It’s your abilitire”

“Abilitire? What does it do?”

“Okay,” Listy started “Put on your abilitires, both of you”

We did as we were commanded but just as soon as I strapped the bracelet around my arm, it disappeared. Same happened to JD.

We stared at our naked arms, we stared at each other and then we stared at Listy.

“Heh?” We said in unison.

“It just, disappeared, whoosh” JD explained to me, as if it didn’t happen to me.

“Your abilitires didn’t vanish,” Listy gladly explained “They are just set to cloak when worn. An abilitires is used for enhancing orbs and modules you can buy or collect. Insert the orb into the slot and it will be absorbed by your body through your abilitires, you follow?”

We both nodded without a word.

“Okay boys, in your rooms is an alarm scheduled to go off at five tomorrow morning. The only thing I expect of you guys is to be on floor one at the elevator at six. You got all that”

Again we nodded in silence

“Great,” Listy smiled “Then I will see you two, tomorrow. Have a good night’s sleep.”

And without uttering another word, she disappeared into the elevator.

“Let’s go find our room!” JD yelled

I looked at the key in my hand and it had something engraved on it.

B-16 was engraved on the keys.

We tracked down our room without a problem. JD unlocked the door and we entered.

It wasn’t a very big room but it had its own bathroom, a luxury that does not exist in the Junior Section, where you have to use the public bathroom. There was a bed each side of the room with a table back against the wall between the beds. Above the table was a tiny window as well. Next to the beds was the closets.

“Ahhh man! Exactly what I was afraid off” JD wailed.

“What?”

“No T.V. bro!”

“Bro? I’m not your bro”

“Yeah… That’s a bummer hey bro?” I answered in a sarcastic voice, which JD did not seem to get.

I went and sat down on the left side bed.

JD stared at me for quite a while and I started to get uncomfortable.

“Yeah?” I asked him.

“Can I have the left side bed?”

“What’s the difference?”

“No, it’s just-”

“Yes,” I interrupted JD’s rumbling “You can have this bed”

I went and sat down on the other bed and JD quickly started unpacking. I decided to follow suite and started unpacking as well.

JD had matching red and black blanket and pillow which had skull patterns all over it. My blanket and pillow was a plain midnight blue.

It took me around an hour or so to completely unpack, make my bed and arrange my side of the room. It took JD an additional two hours while I had to sit and watch him arrange his side. I must have admitted though, JD's side of the room seemed a lot more colorful than my side as he had a bunch of redundant stuff packed out.

The remainder of the time, we sat, chating about our Junior Section experiences until we were both tired out, It was still pretty early, but we were eager for the next day, so we went to bed.

We were both tired out, so we didn’t stay up late and went to bed, eager for the next day.

I was only awake for what felt like mere seconds before I dozed off.
