Prologue

"Come on, I think its a great idea." The woman said from the computer desk, she had turned in her chair so she was staring at her best friend. "Well, Allie? What do you say? Want to atleast try it?"

Allie was silent for a moment. "I don't know, Jess. I just broke up with my boyfriend a couple of days ago."

Jess frowned. "But there's this dating site that you could try.." She trailed off at a glare from Allie.

She sighed, sitting on the couch. "Besides, I don't even know if I'm ready to date or not." She ran a hand threw her sandy brown hair. "You can set you up an account if you want to."

Jess reluctantly nodded, then got on the computer.

Allie stood up, then grabbed her jacket. "I'm going for a walk," she announced, walking out the door. She had never been good with boys. She couldn't even speak around the cutest ones. And would almost always make a full of herself in front of him. She didn't even think she was beautiful; and was starting to think that maybe she couldn't keep a guy, was maybe because there was something wrong with her? She took a deep breath, slipped her jacket on, then started on her walk. She was in college and her and Jess were room-mates.

Jess was the better with boys of the two, and she was prettier too. She had long blonde hair that looked good with her ice blue eyes. And she always knew just how to dress.

Allie wasn't really paying attention to where she was going; and she bumped into someone. "Oh.. I'm.." She trailed off when she saw him.

"Howdy, ma'am." He flashed her a smile.

She couldn't help but to smile back.

He stuck out his hand for her to shake. "I'm Chris Carsen. You?"

"Allie." She said, shaking his hand. "Uh.. Allie Reed." She said that in a whisper.

He was silent for a moment. "Nice name."

She blushed; then turned her head away so he couldn't see.

"I better be going. It was nice running into you." He tipped his black cowboy hat to her, then walked off.

She watched him leave; then mentally slapped herself. Why didn't I talk to him? She turned away and headed back to the room.

Jess was instant messaging someone when she came back.

"Jess?" Allie asked, walking over to her. "Who are you talking to?"

Jess glanced at her, then smiled. "I was talking to Kasey Carsen." She answered, looking back at the screen. "He's funny too."

Carsen? She just shrug, then glanced at the screen. "Are you going to meet him?"

Jess shrug. "I don't know, I've got it! Maybe he's got a brother, and we can double!"

Allie just rolled her eyes. "Jess!" She sit on the couch. "I'm not really looking for anyone."

Jess just ignored her, and typed something: "Do you have a brother?"

A moment later, the computer made a ding to signal that he had answered: "No, but I have a cousin whose staying with me."

She giggled: "Is he single."

A moment later: "You bet."

Allie rolled her eyes, then went over to see what they were chatting about. "OMG, Jess! You didn't!"

Jess smiled. "Oh, but I did." Then she messaged something else: "Want to double date sometime? You, me, your cousin and my friend?"

A moment later: "Sounds fun."

Jess glanced at her, an evil smirk on her face. "Looks like you got yourself a date."

Kasey logged off . "Cuz! You will never believe this."

"Believe what?"

"I may have got you a date." He announced proudly. "Its time you got back out there." When there was silence, he sighed, "Come on, Chris. Its been a little over a year."

Chris glanced at him. "Yah, if I had only been dating and we broke up, then I would love to date again. But my wife died. I'm sorry, but I can't do it."

Kasey made a pouty face. "She would want you to.."

"No, I'm not ready."

Kasey frowned. "Fine, I guess I will just have to invite them over."

Chris shook his head. "Go ahead, but I will just lock my self up in my room until they are gone."

"Cuz," Kasey walked over to him, then gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Don't you think she would want you to do this? I mean, you can't grieve forever."

Chris sighed in defeat. "Fine."

Kasey smiled. "Good. I will go message Jess then."

"Wait, dude.. you two just started talking." Chris pointed out. "So why are you rushing this?"

Kasey glanced at him. "I just want to meet her. And you get to meet and entertain her friend."
