The Peacekeepers

In a distant dimension far from our own, dragons and humans lived peacefully. They helped each other when it was needed and they all had harmonious lives. Then everything changed when a strange disturbance shook the Realm In-Between, the place that served as a medium between the different dimensions. This disturbance caused the humans to become very violent. Because of this, they started to hunt the dragons mercilessly to the point that they were near extinction.

Two of the dragons that were still alive at this time were Azareal and Adosa. These two dragons, one that was master of light and one that was master of dark respectively had been good friends of the humans for a long time since they had been born hundreds of years ago. Both had grown to love the humans for their peaceful ways and respected them as equal. They were shocked about the humans' change in behavior and sought a way to prevent the death of anymore dragons. The two dragons decided to call out to the Wanderers, the ones who watched over the Realm In-Between and helped any souls that have been lost in the Realm find their way. Ammeal, the leader of the Wanderers, heard the cries of the dragons and summoned them to the Realm In-Between. The dragons told him of the plight of their kin and asked him to create a dimension for them so that they could live in peace again.

Ammeal said that he could, but only on the condition that they sacrifice their bodies and give their spirits to the Wanderers. He then told them about how the strange disturbance caused the release of a wave of darkness that is slowly consuming the dimensions. This darkness is causing more people to become evil and if it is not contained, then every dimension could go to ruin. He said that he had a plan to stop the spread of darkness. They were going to gather four humans and give them the power to contain the darkness and stop it from corrupting any more living beings. Ammeal already had the perfect foursome picked out and that the dragons' spirits were going to be needed in order to give the humans their powers.

Azareal and Adosa didn't even hesitate to say yes to Ammeal. He asked them why they would readily give up their bodies. They answered that they would give up their lives for the safety of their kin and it would be an honor for them to help the Wanderers stop the corruption of humans. Ammeal smiled at their response and said that before he created the new dimension, he needed to go and collect the four humans that would save the dimensions from their descent into darkness.,,,,

At about the same time in our dimension, four orphans roamed the streets of Rome in the year 55 B.C. These orphans weren't just best friends, but they were brothers and sisters, two sets of identical twins in fact. The older set of twins were girls who were only eighteen years old, and the younger set were boys who two years younger then their older sisters.

The youngest brother of the four was a very mischievous boy and loved to play harmless pranks on the others. He loved making others laugh and was happiest when others were enjoying themselves. The elder brother was quite the opposite of his twin. He was serious and rarely acted his age. He wanted to know more things and was always observing things and learning from them. Though they were completely different, the two brothers got along very well because they balanced each other perfectly.

Like their brothers, the twin sisters were also total opposites of one another. The younger of the sisters was very hotheaded and would blow up at the smallest of things. Even so, she loved her siblings and only wished the best for them. The eldest sister was a calm, levelheaded girl that kept her siblings in line. She was the one that punished her other siblings when they got in trouble and comforted them when they were sad. She was seen as the mother of the group and she did her job well.

Because of the time period in which they lived and their poor social status, the orphans had no education in scholarly things, like mathematics and science. Even so, they knew much about the nature of human beings from watching them day in and day out. If there was one thing that these children knew, it was that they wanted nothing more then to help others. Even at their young age they knew that there was much war and hatred in the world and all they wanted was peace. They wanted other people to be able to live in peace, but because they had no education and their poor social status, they thought that they would never be able to do such things.

One night, as the orphans were about to find a safe place to sleep, a bright light flashed and a strange hole appeared in front of them. Out of the hole came a cloaked man. He looked back and forth as if he was looking for something and he stopped when he spotted the four children. Apparently he could tell that the children were frightened, so he told them that he was not going to harm them and that he wasn't a threat to them. When they said nothing in return, the man said that his name was Ammeal and that he was here to help them. It was the older sister that asked him what he wanted with them. Ammeal told them that he had heard their wishes and he was going to give them the power to help people. He said that all they had to do was trust him and follow him back to his home in the Realm In-Between. Though they were still a bit untrusting of the man, they decided to go back with him into the Realm In-Between.

When they walked through the hole and into the Realm, the orphans were amazed at what they saw. This place was nothing like Rome for this place looked as if it were the night sky itself. The ground was like a purple mist and it felt like they were walking on clouds. All around them were large balls of light that shined through the deep mist of the Realm In-Between.

When the eldest brother asked what those balls were, Ammeal told them that those were the different dimensions. He told them to look behind them and what they saw was a ball of light that's size was much greater then any of the others. Ammeal told the children that this dimension was known as the Mother Dimension. It was called that because it was the first dimension and all of the others were made from that one. Ammeal point towards one of the dimensions and told the children to look closely. When they did they saw something that looked like a string that pulsed with some sort of energy. He told them that these are the ties that bind dimensions together. Every dimension was tied to the Mother Dimension and that if that bond was every destroyed, then the other dimension would cease to exist.

They continued to travel through the Realm and the orphans had no idea where this man was taking them. They were about to ask him, but they were interrupted when they heard a roar up ahead. This frightened the children, but Ammeal told that they don't have to worry, that was just a greeting from a friend. They had no idea what Ammeal was talking about at first, but they understood when they got a good look at the creatures in front of them even though they had no idea what they actually were. There were two of them, one with bright white scales that seemed to shine and one with black scales that made the beast almost blend into the dark purple mist. When Ammeal noticed that the children were a bit hesitant to approach them, he told them that they would do them no harm. The children had decided to trust Ammeal and came closer to the creatures. The eldest brother was the one to ask Ammeal what those creatures were and he told the orphans that they were dragons. He motioned towards the white dragon and said that her name was Azareal. He did the same for the black one and told them that her name was Adosa.

After introducing the dragons to the children it was the younger sister that asked Ammeal why he had brought them to this place. Ammeal walked a little farther and told the children to follow him once again. When they stopped he motioned to a one of the dimensions, but this one was different from the others. Instead of it being a bright light, it looked dark purple like the mist that was around them. Ammeal told them that there has been a disturbance in the Realm In-Between and it was causing some of the dimensions to be filled with darkness. The resulting darkness was causing the people in the dimensions to do evil acts and it was destroying the dimension from the inside out. He told them that the Wanderers can't handle the spreading darkness by themselves and they needed help.

The older sister asked him how they were expected to accomplish a task this big. She asked how he was going to give them any power at all. He replied by telling them that hey had nothing to fear. He would make sure that they had enough power and so much more. The eldest sister was still a bit apprehensive about it all, but she nodded slightly and allowed Ammeal to continue.

Ammeal told the children to look around them. It was then that the children noticed that other hooded men stood around them in a circle. The younger sister asked Ammeal who these men were. He told them that they are what he is. They are ancient spirits, who in their living days as humans were pure of heart. When they died, their spirits manifested into what they are now. Most beings, alive or dead, don't know of theirs existence, but those who do simply call them Wanderers. They were given the task of watching over the dimensions and making sure that they were safe. Sometimes when someone died their soul would find its way into the Realm In-Between by accident and it was the Wanderers job to get them back to where they belonged.

The children watched silently as Ammeal raised one of his arms and four of the Wanderers stepped forward. In each of their hands was a weapon of some sort. One of them held a large scythe. Its pole was black as night while its blade was a dark purple with intricate patterns etched into it. Around the middle of it there was something tied to it that looked like the talon of an eagle. The man beside him held a sword whose blade was almost as wide and tall as the Wanderer himself. The middle part of the blade was wrapped in a white cloth that protected the carrier's hand from its sharp edges. The cloaked man next to him was carrying a normal looking sword that had a black blade. On the hilt of this blade was a crescent moon whose points seemed almost as sharp as the blade itself. The last Wanderer to step forward had two twin scimitars. These swords had blazing suns at the end of their hilts instead of a moon.

The children stared at the men, but they didn't ask any questions. When the Wanderers stopped beside Ammeal, he then asked the two dragons to come to him. Once they were in front of him, they lowered their heads so that they were eye level with Ammeal. He then placed his hand on each of their heads and began to chant in an ancient language that the children didn't understand. Suddenly, the two dragons began to glow brightly. The bodies began to change and reform into shining balls of light. When the balls started to dim, the children could see that in their places were two stones, one that was white and one that was black.

The children were speechless, for they didn't know what had just happened to the dragons. It was the younger brother who asked Ammeal what he did to them. He said that the dragons were fine. Their bodies may be gone, but their spirits are still strong and living in the two stones. It was then that Ammeal told the children the reasons that the dragons had come to the Wanderers in the first place. He said that the plight of the dragons' world was caused by the strange disturbance and he didn't want anything like that to ever happen again in another dimension.

Silence was restored as Ammeal grabbed the two stones. As he did, the two Wanderers who were holding the large sword and the scythe walked up to him. Ammeal turned to them and took off the feather from the sword and the talon from the scythe. Then he told the children to come and stand in front of him. They complied, and once they were in front of him, Ammeal told them that he was going to give them the power he promised them. He said that when you receive the power, you will not be able to give it back. The children were silent. He said that there no going back to the life you once had. Like before, the children were silent. He said that the darkness would not be easily put down and that it will send shadows to try and destroy you. And for a third time, the children were silent.

Ammeal chuckled softly, said very well, and motioned for the younger brother to step forward. He did so with slight hesitance and Ammeal held out the talon in front of the boy's chest. The talon started to glow and float in Ammeal's hand. Suddenly, it flew from his hand and pierced the boy's chest. He gasped from surprise, but it brought no pain. When the talon disappeared inside the boy, he began to glow brightly. His body began to distort and change.

When the light faded the children gasped in surprise, for the person in front of them looked nothing like their brother. The boy's hair was a strange, dark purple that fell completely over the right side of his face. His eyes had become a dark silver color that sent chills through the other children's spines. His skin, which was usually tanned from living on the streets, was now very pale. The strangest change in the boy was the pair of dark purple wings that were on the boy's back. They weren't like the wings of a bird; they looked more like the wings that they dragons had.

Ignoring the children's surprise, Ammeal told the boy that his new name was now Demon, The Deceiver. Ammeal said that his job was to blend in with the people of the dimension that he was in. He would be the one to set a mans heart back on the right path to light without that man knowing that he wasn't like him. Demon nodded to Ammeal and said that he would do his duty to the best of his abilities. Ammeal replied by saying that he knew that he would. He waved his arm and the Wanderer that was holding the scythe stepped forward. Ammeal picked up the weapon and handed it to Demon He said that the weapon was now his and that it will serve him for as long as he lives. Demon nodded and went to go stand by his siblings.

Next Ammeal told the older brother to come before him. Unlike his brother, he walked with no hesitance in his steps. Ammeal held out the feather and it began to glow and float into the boy's chest. Just like his brother, the boy glowed brightly and his body began to change.

When the light dimmed the other children didn't gasp this time, but they still stared in amazement. The boy's hair was now white as snow and it was very messy, much like the ruffled feathers of an angry bird. Like his brother, he had wings, but his were long and feathery. His eyes had changed to a shining gold color and his skin was pale.

Ammeal told the boy that his name was now Angel, The Visionary. Ammeal said that his job was to help humans relive and recall their pasts and hopefully put them back on the path to light. He raised his hand and the Wanderer with the large sword stepped up. Ammeal took it from him and held it out to take. When he saw Angel's hesitance to grab it, Ammeal told him that the sword may look heavy but it really wasn't. Angel nodded and took the sword from him and raised it above his head to see if what Ammeal said was true. Like Ammeal said, the sword was as light as a feather. Angel smiled and walked back and stood beside Demon.

After that, Ammeal asked the younger sister to come forward. She stepped up to him calmly with her head held high. Ammeal held out the black stone and it started to glow a dark purple. It raised up from Ammeal's hand and flew into the girl. This time as the girl started to change, instead of glowing brightly, she looked as if she were covered in a dark mist.

As the mist cleared away, the others noticed that not much had changed. She had no wings and her hair looked as if it were just pitch. But, when her siblings looked closer, it seemed as if her hair was engulfed in a black flame. When she opened her eyes they saw that her pupils had become black crescent moons.

Ammeal told the girl that her name was now Dark, The Guiding Path. Her job was to pull the darkness from the hearts of men and guide them back to the light in their souls. Without any signal from Ammeal, the Wanderer with the black sword came forward. Dark took the sword from his hands and went to go stand beside Angel and Demon.

Without being asked, the older sister walked up to Ammeal and stood before him with a straight face. Ammeal held up the white stone and as it glowed a bright yellow, it flew towards the girl. She glowed like her brothers did, but the light seemed to be ten times brighter than theirs were.

When the light faded, the other children had to wait for their eyes to readjust before they could see how their sister had changed. Like Dark, nothing really changed about the girl's natural body, but her hair was now a pale yellow. The only strange thing about it was that it gave off a soft light. When she opened her eyes, the children saw that her pupils had become bright yellow suns.

Ammeal told the girl that her name was Light, The Beacon of Hope. He said that it was her job to be the light that shined in the darkest of hearts and give hope to those who are lost in the darkness of despair. The last Wanderer that held the twin scimitars walked up to Light and held out the swords to her. She grabbed them and went to go stand next to the others.

.As they stood there, the Wanderers that surrounded them began to chant loudly in their ancient language. Their voices grew louder and louder until the noise resonated all around the children. Suddenly, Ammeal's voice rose above all of the others and proclaimed, "From this day forth, you will be know as the Peacekeeper, the protectors of peace and harmony within the dimensions. You are our masters and their salvation!"

And that, my friends, is how the Peacekeepers were born.
