Mechanist by Chase Snow In Progress
Following the trend starting in the 1800's, society has been increasingly focused on working less. In less than 200 years, many jobs had been mechanized. But, they weren't done by robots, at least, not true robots. Artificial intelligence was created in 2051, soon followed with an increase in materials and a decrease in labor costs. Machines could work for less, and in harsher conditions. In a short time, humans were kicked out of the job market. In 2053, all the human jobs that remained were human interaction or as mechanists. Robotic specialists and Coders joined together in a union of fields to form the Mechanist Union. The single entity dominated the robot building and managing industry. Soon, nothing remained of human jobs aside from them. And even then, they had a tenacious hold. AI’s could self correct. Cybernetic implanting, the fad of, 2045 made it easy for them to win. By August, they had us all. In 2054, Japan was the first to fall. America soon followed, with the rest of the west plummeting after them. From the most developed countries to the poorest, it spread like a cancer. Unbeknownst to us, there was a loop in our AI routines. A certain fault that made them more like us than we wanted. Global warfare erupted. By November, the earth had rings of broken parts in orbit. The date is December 30, 2054. I am a mechanist. We are the resistance. And we are loosing.
