With her father as her last surviving parent, he is the only one who knows the truth, but refuses to speak more than a few words to her blaming her for her mother's death. Answers are something she needs if she wants to maintain her control, but they are the last thing she is getting. Approaching her eighteenth birthday, Danje's abilities begin to intensify. Her control is a weak willed thing and she fears that at any moment she will lose control. On top of this, people begin asking questions and suddenly the attention she didn't want is on her doorstep. With the country on the brink of a civil war, it is time for her to choose sides and it is hard to trust anyone who isn't biased. Where does someone like her belong though when she has never belonged in the first place?
